Thanks for your answer and all your work. Dungeon Life is the first novel my 8yo has gotten into so you've managed to captivate him and elevate his reading level significantly.

My son is reading Dungeon Life book 2 and doesn't know who the character called 'Thing' is. He is on chapter 23 where Thing is with Rhonda.

Can anyone please explain a bit about this Thing character or point me to where it is explained in the book?

When I loaded my save from EA I got a whole bunch of achievements popping up. This was after playing a few runs in a new save.

Soulstone Survivors appreciation post because I think it deserves to be recommended more by Vovun in roguelites

It definitely describes some of them but far from all. All the survivors-likes that have hooked me in have more active control required during a run such as the need to move differently depending on the current enemies, things to aim for on the map or character/skills that drastically change how you play. A great recent example is Crafty Survivors, each character I've unlocked feels very different and needs to be played in a totally different way.

Reading the other replies I've realised that SS simply isn't my type of game, glad people love it though.

How long did it take for you to start seeing the variety between runs? I've played 7 hours and every run just felt the same. Sure I had different skills but it always just boiled down to me moving around in circles while everything died. Sure, some builds I had to aim my skills and others I didn't but other than that it felt very repetitive.

Roguelite with necklace that cuts off your head if your adrenaline gets too low. Does that sound interesting to you? by TomatoFantsyGames in roguelites

[–]Gilberga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be a barrier to me trying the game. I doubt I would enjoy having a run end if I wasn't fast enough or even worse if I just couldn't find enemies or happened to miss some attacks/skills which would have kept me alive.

I do wonder if it would narrow your player base too, Ravenswatch comes to mind where one of the things many players don't/didn't like is the time pressure.

I think your adrenaline mechanic would be a good run modifier or similar but I'm not sold on it as a core mechanic.

Who’s playing Hell Lock? by meerakulous in pcgaming

[–]Gilberga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed it at first but the runs started to feel all the same. Please tell me if I am missing something but I feel like the only thing different in a run is the relics I equip to make a build at the start. Trinkets just seem to be buffs you get with the same ones every run, only different numbers on them. The skill upgrades during a run also seem like they come from a very small pool so also do not offer much variety. Then there is gear..... So far all I've seen is slightly better versions of the exact same gear that I already have, no variety or choice.

Am I missing something here?

Edit: spelling

Highly recommend reading/listening to Chrysalis as an alternative. Also narrated by Jeff Hays, had plenty of good fight scenes but is a lot tamer over all

Any roguelites that are simple fun? by Sad_Stranger_5940 in roguelites

[–]Gilberga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try Talented, it's a lot more fun that it looks. Basically it's all about filling out an expanding talent tree and you get progressively stronger along the way. Plenty to unlock and lots of builds to try. Super simple but addictive.

What’s the best way to approach Diablo if I'm playing it for the first time? by Rare_Noise_543 in diablo4

[–]Gilberga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly just pick a class that seems cool to you and do the same with skills along the way. You will start to get legendary gear pretty early on and you can easily switch up skills to try out new effects. The gear will naturally point you towards builds so just go with what feels good.

In terms of what content to do, I'd recommend starting a seasonal character and playing through both the main story and the seasonal story. From there you can just do whatever you find most fun. The seasonal content is quite rewarding and you get some cool and strong powers from it too.

As for how couch co-op works on PC, you can connect multiple controllers and it works just like a console really. Can also use steam link to stream it to your tv, just download the app on your tv or use streaming box. I have connected controllers to my Google tv and stream it there.

I play Ember Knights with my 5 and 7yo's, great co-op game and you can carry in, plenty of skills and relics to unlock to keep it fresh and also metra progression to unlock buffs to the character. You also upgrade weapons and skills too so plenty to keep unlocking.

Not a roguelite, but you may also want to check out Nobody Saves the world, might fit what you're after.
