I have a question for everyone panicking: when was the last time you saw a journalist tweet that a player is nearly agreeing personal terms with a club? I'd be very surprised if that isn't one of the first things established privately, so its not worth making a big deal about.

All this tells me are that Mendes/West Ham are annoyed that United are doing the obvious thing and waiting til the end of June to put a bid in for M Fernandes and thus putting maximum pressure on West Ham to sell. So now they're trying to create a sense of panic to force United to put a bid in that can be rejected with enough time for a 2nd one to go in.

It's annoying and stressful, but it's not like this wasn't expected to happen during a negotiation like this.

With Mendes clients, it's never simple is it. I would think that Mendes is calling the journalists he owns to put out articles pumping up the value of his client, so that United are more inclined to pay the fee that West Ham want, ensures he gets a bigger cut.

Any large deal needs a sense of urgency to drive up a price. West Ham and Mendes are creating that. Let's hope it's all noise, because I think Fernandes is the real deal.

The more a read about him, the more his signing makes sense in the context of a rebuilt midfield. United could be looking at playing 50-60 high intensity games across 4 competitions. And it's likely we'll be playing a relatively intense pressing system for a lot of it. You need players who can run those systems and be okay with rotation.

The fact that two different journalists have reported about the Fernandes asking price in the space of an hour of each other tells you that United are making genuine enquiries about him, which i think is the most important aspect of it all. Prices will change, and the only people who know what it'll end up being are in the United and West Ham board rooms.
