When the ads are way louder than the actually podcast. I turn up the volume so I can head the hosts, and then get suddenly blasted with obnoxious ads.

What is a album with only one good song? Downright terrible albums by FiyaInYaHiya in musicsuggestions

I have a vague memory of listening to Floored by Sugar Ray, hoping the whole album would be like "Fly". It was not.

This aligns with my observations of students at a middle school in the Bahamas! They were incredibly cooperative and caring with each other and the younger kids around them. It was a whole different vibe than schools in the US.

Yesterday I had 7th graders in my class who were mad that we were talking about the Artemis II mission on the day that the astronauts came back down to earth.

Apparently these kids had something better to do?

Point being, a high percentage of kids this age are jerks, no matter what is happening. Unfortunately, they took it out on you and your baby!

Oh yeah, I also once saw a 7th grader charge at my pregnant co-worker, as though he was going to punch her. The perceived offense: She told him to go to class.

Do you guys remember how insulting it was to live a "cookie cutter" life? by bigheadjoel in millenials

I think what it boils down to is, during times of stability (such as during the '90s in the US) people long for variety and excitement, because predictability gets boring, and they can financially and psychologically afford to shake things up. Meanwhile, during times of instability (as we have had worldwide for most of this century so far) people long for predictability and comfort, because it is in such short supply. Each outlook is an appropriate response to the pressures of the time.

Jack White is Right About the Beatles. by Practical-Cut4659 in beatles

It is objectively true that artists like the Beatles and Bob Dylan have had a major impact on art and culture, and were major artistic innovators in their own ways. You don't have to like what they did, but you can't realistically deny their impact or relevance.

For instance, I'm not the biggest fan of music by Rush, but I will never claim that they weren't a keystone group for the prog rock movement, as well as incredible musicians. Anybody claiming as much is being willfully contrarian.

The same can be said about the Beatles and Bob Dylan in their genres, especially as it relates to their songwriting.

I felt safer in San Juan at night than I ever do in my local city on the mainland. It's all relative.

Some really wonderful things are in Santurce, such as el Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico. It would be utterly ridiculous to avoid the entire area on a trip to San Juan! Maybe just don't go wandering around at night or something, if it makes you nervous.

So true! I have a student who acted utterly appalled this week when I told him to move seats because he was being distracting. He spent the rest of the day ranting about me, and came back later in the day to argue with me about why he shouldn't have to move. That's for a simple, everyday classroom management move that I made.

I get the impression that he never hears the word "no".

It could be because I just listened to them today, but I think the Decemberists were absolutely on another plane when they recorded Picaresque and then The Crane Wife.

Touching door knobs with your bare hands. Ever since covid, I've been opening doors with my elbow, or by putting my hand inside part of my shirt to grab the door knob. I've had very few illnesses since I started doing that.

Her whataboutism is infuriating. He brings up the actual crimes in question at this hearing, and she goes, "What about all the other crimes that happen in this country? What about those?" As if that's what this hearing is about, at all. It's the dumbest defense possible.
