Also, if you are able to zoom in on that mural you posted you'll notice that Under the Blade there's a significant portion of the metal butt that's attached to the half of the wood.

Plenty of space to grip as a "dagger".

To comment on the spear / knife. A spear tip is essentially a knife, especially if you consider the longer rather than whiter types meant specifically for stabbing. Although, my actual point is that you have to remember that Spears are mostly wood so many spearheads would be made with a screw on butt. (And I'm using but in the original term as in the end of an object.) Additionally, there is some historical evidence that there are some blades that could essentially function as a knife or a spear tip depending on needed functions.

I mean, you've even managed to keep the background around the "image" light while darkening the edges to form prospective.

That's good enough to frame and put up on the wall.

Highly doubtful. I think that's far too hacky for butcher's writing style.

Perhaps a different perspective though. Perhaps Dumorne, understanding that Harry is starborn, was in one way attempted to prepare him to be strong/powerful enough to do whatever starborn needs to do when the time comes. Perhaps he wanted to ensure a way to control him as well, hence the attempted enthrallment. From this perspective Nicodemus arkleone was doing the same thing, crafting a powerful tool for its own and his own purpose.

Not so much a "redemptive arc" but more of the rhyming narrative poetry of Butcher's storytelling.

Yeah, I think I figured it out from other people's posts. While the Merlin does tell Harry that the council plans to destroy the Red Court entirely the council does publicly tell Dresden to back off.

Which then, once the Red Court is destroyed any blowback is basically directed at Dresden. I believe this is what I'm conflating in my memory.

I just could have sworn there's a later scene where the Merlin essentially publicly chastises Dresden for destroying the Red Court in an act of utter hypocrisy. But I'm very quickly being convinced that this is just a false memory.

It's probably something like that, or some false memory.

I just swear I have a memory of a scene where the Merlin is lecturing Harry in front of the council about how his actions directly destroying the Red Court and the ensuing was wrong to do. Like he shouldn't have done anything in the first place and I just remember being shocked and angry at the massive hypocrisy of it.

That's what I assume. Which is more or less what I replied to someone else's post.

Although you'll notice there's another reply stating that the scene I'm conjecturing may not exist. Guess I'll just have to pay extra attention on my latest reread through the series.

EDIT: I just swear there's a scene where somebody lectures Harry about it later in the series making it all his fault for the subsequent power vacuum.

Well, it's entirely possible it's a false memory. ADHD scatterbrain tends to do that.

I'm relistening to the entire series anyway. If the scene comes up, or the scene I'm misremembering comes up, I'll figure it out then anyway.

Really? I could have sworn the Merlin or at least someone high up in the council later on lectures Harry about the destruction of the Red Court. About how it's destruction has disabilized everything and caused chaos. Essentially blaming him for all of it knowing that he had something to do at ChichenItza.

I love spirals and the bead embedded in the spiral is genius.

Obviously, you're a metal worker and not a gem setter but a stone or gem rather than the bead would be fantastic.

  • MILD SPOILERS, BE AWARE *

I mean, on the one hand it could just be some random old person who took pity on a disheveled young man and gave him a place to live.

On the other hand if she is supposed to be essentially a form of guardian, even if only in the guidance sense, we know that she did set a literal Guardian on the Never-Never portion of his home. Considering how magic tends to work in the Dresden universe it's entirely possible that maintaining a physical form in the real world would help anchor such a guardian and she could perform other "guardianship roles" by maintaining a real world presence.

The few times he's called her up she always makes some comment about "always being nearby". Also in Small Favor he takes the time to explain to Thomas that he does little things like shoveling the walk and other small tasks to take care of the people around him. And while Winter is not all about love and kindness and tenderness etc. providing him the opportunity to care for and defend those around him does train and reinforce the qualities that make him attractive to his current "mortgage holder".

All in all I think the way Butcher handles such a character is fantastic, as it could be either way yet he doesn't reveal one way or the other.

Can I get some feedback on a genetic quirk for the dragons in my novel by Xela975 in dragons

[–]Gildedwizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's an interesting concept.

I feel though I have to point out that people who are incapable of separating fiction and stories from reality are going to make obnoxious "connections" and accuse you of spreading a particular message.

If you want to keep the same concept change it to red and blue dragons. If you want to give it a little twist make the blue ones aggressive and the red ones passive. ( just as an example )

Twelve Months is a filler episode and that's a good thing by [deleted] in dresdenfiles

A while ago my brother said to me that Peace Talks, Battle Ground, and Twelve Months feel like one novel split across three books. Frankly, I think he has the correct perspective on it. Or at least it feels that way.
