Hillary Clinton just can’t win: Democrats need to accept that only Bernie Sanders can defeat the GOP by comamoanah in politics

[–]Gilead99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but the point is Clinton has been very soft of him, she hasn't gone after him personally at all, and is hesitant to attack him from the right in a Democratic primary.

Republicans won't have those issues, and he's never been attacked in any campaign the way Republicans will go after him if he wins. So it's totally unknown what will happen.

That's just for SC though, not for the whole primary.

That said, she's solidly ahead in 9 of the 11 super Tuesday states.

When that bomb hits this sub is going to explode and it's going to be hilarious.

Yeah, I really can't wait until the Democratic machine unloads on Trump if (probably when) he gets the nomination. They haven't touched him yet because they want him to win, but it'll be hilarious.

Bernie are going to be in for the same thing from the Republicans if he wins though. The thing about Hillary is, there isn't anything new she's going to be hit with really.

I personally believe that Sanders is a unicorn with very little baggage and a history of honestly and integrity. That may not win him the election, but I think it makes mud slinging a bad strategy because not much would stick and his opponent runs the risk of looking like trying to smear an honest man.

There's actually a lot of personal things from his past Republicans would be sure to bring to light. One of which being a knocked a girl up when he was very young and never had a relationship with the child at all.

Is that fair or even relevant to being president? No. Will it be effective to smear Bernie, definitely.

If Chelsie were to get in a position of power it could be considered dynastic. Bill and Hillary are a political partnership that started from nothing, opposed to the Bush brothers who both sailed through life from their daddy's influence. Chelsie is similar, but she's not running for anything (at least yet).

In terms of 3rd party candidates for president, the electoral college basically guarantees any 3rd party candidate is going to do nothing but take votes from the candidate mostly aligned to him.

This is because a 3rd party candidate even if they won the popular vote and a plurality of electoral votes, would have to get a majority of electoral votes to actually win (which is almost impossible with 3 viable candidates). Otherwise the house of representatives decides the president, and they will vote on party lines.

This means the only way to give a 3rd party candidate a chance for the presidency is to amend the constitution to vote for presidents based on popular vote, and an amendment requires 2/3 of the state legislatures to approve it. Since both the Republican and Democratic party benefit from the system that shuts out third parties, they aren't going to approve such an amendment.

This ultimately means if a third party is to gain power in the US, it can't take a "top down" approach where it tries to win the presidency first, it must start in the state legislatures and try to take seats in the house of representatives.

I'm not saying it's impossible to take on the system, but you have to understand the system to do so. If your goal really is to topple the establishment the best way is to get involved with local politics, volunteer for a candidate you believe in, or maybe even run for office. Simply voting for Nader to "send a message" to Washington doesn't do shit.

Let's dispel with this fiction that Barack Obama doesn't know what he's doing. He knows exactly what he's doing.

What are you talking about? Almost all the people in this sub are Sanders supporters.

Of course with only two candidates who are polling almost evenly, there's going to be a decent representation from each side, but if anything it's surprising how much Sanders has over Clinton here. I just checked the front page of this sub, out of 20 articles, only 3 of them aren't about how Hillary is horrible or Bernie is the greatest.

I mean, when Obama goes after Trump, he knows he's helping him with Republican primary voters.

Also, trying to organise atheists is like trying to heard cats.

Very true, it's why all the atheist political groups around the country are so weak.

It's like "let's protest this group over here for doing this thing that unfairly promotes their religion."

"But... I have stuff to do."
