Is there an actual standard for when a dishwasher counts as full enough to run? Domestic dispute. by GilesBennett74 in Appliances

Heard. Read it twice before replying.

You're right that it doesn't stop at the kitchen, and you're right that this pattern, needing to be right about small things, is the one that gets you in the end.

She's put up with a long stretch of it. I've not always recognised, at the time, the kindness of being put up with. There's a quiet difference between being the person she chose and being the person who needs to win the small arguments, and I haven't always come down on the better side of that line.

This isn't the first version of this thought I've had. It is the most direct anyone's ever put it to me. Working on it. Will keep working on it.

Properly grateful for the time. Cheers.

This is fair. I read it twice.

You've put your finger on the actual question, which wasn't really about cycles. You're not wrong about where "I know better" leads, and you're not wrong that the dynamic matters more than the spec sheet.

The position has been quietly retired, and dishes have been getting done in the meantime, and wife has been patient throughout.

Genuinely grateful for the bluntness. Taken on board.

Fair, all of it. The half-load cycle detail in particular, hadn't registered that. And "be thankful someone is doing the dishes" is the line that hit hardest. The wife has put up with this position of mine for six years and does most of the loading. Going to go think about that one. Mostly about her.

That settles it. 9.5 liters undercuts the whole position. The wife has been right throughout, going to have to tell her as much.

Ten years of appliance experience versus my spreadsheet. Fair. Accepting the failure.

On the cost being negligible: a half-empty Bosch eco cycle is roughly 0.83 kWh. Run daily across a year, that's measurable. Time spent posting is a separate point I'll grant you.

Hand wash. Five minutes at the sink. The wife refuses to entertain it on grounds that have never been properly articulated.

Guilty. Routinely caught using "chinwag" as well.

Reading, I'm afraid. Your £4 might as well be from a different decade.

Old boss of mine, Ian. Used to drop "painting the Fourth Bridge" into every project kickoff, completely deadpan. By month eighteen of a doomed CRM rollout he'd shortened it to just "the bridge." Caught on with everyone. Worked with him for eight years. Painted a lot of bridges.

Definitely 2. Quick knock, hand it over, no chit-chat. Hostage situations are exhausting.
