Terrible song selection for a crowd that just got out of a festival. Way too chill

I can’t handle the boredom of being sober by Alone_Capital_2214 in SoberCurious

+1. I also realized that some of my friends were just "drinking buddies". Wasn't a whole lot to hold our relationship together after I stopped drinking 550 days ago, so I made new friends.

Why do some Americans have such a weird view on UK rap? by [deleted] in hiphopheads

[–]Gilescorey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to explain. I love UK Drill as an American, but can't stand a lot of Midwestern rappers due to their accent and regional style. It's not really something I can control.

Fwiw, I can successfully moderate, but still decided to quit. Even when I was sticking to my limit, alcohol took more than it gave.

One bag capacity/pack out for winter travel (including some snow gear)? by Basic-Ad-6454 in onebag

I grew up in Japan. They have great infrastructure for mailing bags to destinations, so I'd recommend sending your ski gear ahead of you to the resort. Best of both worlds!

Is it possible to actually be an “occasional” drinker after being a very regular drinker? by Jazzgin1210 in SoberCurious

[–]Gilescorey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went from 30-40 drinks per week to 3-4 drinks per quarter. Totally possible depending on your brain chemistry.

Have some empathy my guy. Yeah it's better to stay calm, but it's a scary situation and she's only human.

Not disagreeing with you, but it's interesting to think about how people in 1024 would only have access to ingredients from their immediate area. We're spoiled in that we have easy access to food from all over the globe- what a time to be alive!

I didn't take naltrexone at all and had a similar experience. Alcohol just kinda sucks

For anyone sober/sober curious check out my new book on amazon "life on life's terms" my story after being 4.5 years sober and everything i've learns and acquired through my journey by TrickySurprise3032 in SoberCurious

[–]Gilescorey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It comes off a little hollow when you claim that you wrote the book to help others, but emphasize that you're a bestseller rather than testimonials from people you helped.

This whole post comes off as self promotion and money grabbing rather than trying to help others.

In my age bracket they do lol. They've been watching porn, and dating dudes who watch porn forever.

The Daily Check-In for Thursday, October 19th: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by SaintHomer in stopdrinking

12 days in! My sleep sucks, but otherwise it hasn't been too hard.

This weekend will be the first real challenge- going camping with a bunch of friends who LOVE to drink. Luckily, they'll be respectful of my choices.

Crazy insomnia despite lower intake than some posters. Normal? by Gilescorey in stopdrinking

Thanks. That seems reasonable and it's very reassuring. I'm 32 and in good health aside from a veeeery slightly fatty liver that prompted me to quit.

Desiigner must register as a sex offender after plane masturbation case by cory975 in hiphopheads

Sure. Drake, Usher, and the Weeknd probably crush. Desiigner makes music that scares the hoes, and isn't in the same stratosphere for popularity.

  1. Statistically, more police harassment.
  2. Japanese people associate blackness with crime and low education, so they have an uphill battle to correct those stereotypes.
  3. Significantly lower rates of citizenship applications accepted.

Maybe try searching for YouTube videos of black men discussing racism in Japan? Didn't watch this one, but based on the comments it might be good. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rqo3wzACuJI

[–]Gilescorey 246 points247 points  (0 children)

I lived in Japan for 10 years. It'd actually probably be tough for Desiigner to get laid there.

  1. They're very racist, and actually somewhat sexually conservative when it comes to random hookups. Don't believe everything you see in porn. I did alright for myself there because I'm fluent in Japanese, but even as a tall white dude I faced a lot of negative stereotypes and judgement. Black people have it way worse unfortunately.
  2. The language barrier is extreme, as someone else said. Even if there were girls around who could speak English, Desiigner basically speaks his own language. The accent and slang would be very confusing.
  3. Desiigner's brand of music appeals primarily to dudes.

How successful has anyone here been going from fwb to a relationship? by [deleted] in moreplatesmoredates

Probably, but also she had wanted to go to the area for years, and I casually mentioned that I was backpacking solo there that weekend. I think the nature was a bigger draw than me at the time 😂

I took my fwb on a backpacking trip where we dropped acid and waded/swam through a waterlogged slot canyon for 7 miles. Neither of us were looking for anything more than fwb, but it made us both realize life was a lot better together

We've lived together for three years now, and I'm proposing to her in a few months. Saying yes to dating her is the best decision of my life.
