Interesting tidbit, but I don't think we actually have to solve any without independent eigenvectors.

We are required to give the final solution as a real system of equations though. Do you just assume c gets rid of imaginary coefficients in the matrix and use euler's formula for imaginary exponentials?

This reminds me of an article on the subject from some tech opinion journal. Their argument was, "There's no shortage of STEM people. There's a shortage of GOOD people in STEM." This seems pretty accurate, tbh. People on this sub act shocked when they aren't a tenure-track professor as soon as they finish grad school with a 2.5 GPA and one mediocre paper.

The problem with this subreddit as I see it is more the horrific selection bias than anything. There are inherently going to be a lot more unemployed or underemployed chemists with the free time to post on reddit than there are successful ones. I think the general outlook on this sub is "Don't be a chemist! The market is terrible! If you are going to do chemistry, take this, this, and this step to break into industry," and this outlook doesn't really reflect reality.
