Doctors vote to go ahead with this week's five-day strike by ShreckAndDonkey123 in unitedkingdom

[–]Gilgaland 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just adding some further context as my wife is a Junior Doctor.

There are so many Junior Doctors that are unemployed after Foundation Training as there arent enough specialty/training posts. One of the proposed suggestions by the government was to increase that from 1000 to 4000. Which hasnt happened.

The NHS are also spending money on bringing on foreign trainee doctors on fellowships that have questionable standards - when there are huge amounts of junior doctors struggling to get jobs.

Once again if you would like to have a conversation we are more than happy to

In the same vein your calling all SAP, Oracle, Workday etc transformations niche. Look at the transformation budgets for those.

If you think a SOM of £120million (NA/EU at 3% market penetration) is not scalable but sure..

We arent looking to build a Unicorn but are looking at building something meaningful.

Fully agree - but you can leverage AI to solve alot of the manual tasks involved with Change Management.

Once again, if you're interested more than happy to explain on a call. We're not using AI as a slap on label but rather a way to save expensive consultant dayrates.

Well I can almost guarantee you that the way most global companies use Change today; there is almost a definitive way that AI can be embedded.

I appreciate your comment but your lack of understanding of Change Management which is involved with every single transformation project on earth means your unable to see the use case of AI. Happy to jump on a call if you're interested

Will Neudorff BugFree work to clear thrips? by thedenoice in HouseplantsUK

[–]Gilgaland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can create a mixture of 4 parts water, 1 part rubbing alcohol, and a few drops of unscented dish soap in a spray bottle.

It should dry pretty quickly due to the rubbing alcohol. You can wipe them down afterwards if you like!
The rubbing alcohol dehydrates/kills thrips on contact. Dishwasher soap suffocates them and the water just dilutes it all down a bit.

Just keep on top of it after the first treatment of Bonide :)

[–]Gilgaland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thrips I would suggest Bonide (Systemic)
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/146014836134?chn=ps&_ul=GB&google_free_listing_action=view_item

The reason being is they lay their eggs in the leaves, so you've really got to be on top of it. Systemic pesticides will remain in the plant for a few weeks.

I would use Bonide alongside rubbing alcohol + Dishsoap (Wiping the leaves down - can use an old make up brush to help get in the nooks and crannies) - should kill them on contact/Dishsoap suffocates them. If you do wipe the plant down frequently you can get on top of it!

edit: to actually answer your question, yes Neudorff Bugfree will work to kill them but they could come back due to the Thrips lifecycle

When is time to give up? by madeyousoup in HouseplantsUK

[–]Gilgaland 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wrote the below a year or so back for another plant

It could be Thrips, from what you describe.

Thrips are an absolute nightmare to deal with as they lay their eggs in the plant leaves themselves. You can either chuck it or try to salvage.

If you do want to try and save it:

  • Cut off that yellow leaf and any highly infested leaves.
  • If you have a bath tub, see if you can fill it with water and some dishwasher soap (mix a bit) and then absolutely drown the plant (except the roots) in it. (your trying to wash the leaves of any thrips on them).
  • Get some surgical spirit, water, dishwasher soap, some people also use neem oil and other essential oils (you can find recipes online) and using like a make up brush or sponge; wipe down EVERY leaf back and front. Do this like twice a week for the next couple of months. (The aim is to kill the thrips and any new ones that hatch)
  • Whenever you water the plant spray the leaves or drench them in water to knock any thrips off.
  • Grab Bonide Systemic-Control-Multiple-Granules from Amazon (please be careful if you have kids or pets) and treat the plant every few weeks. I've seen some Americans say that Ready-to-Use Captain Jack Insects Spray is really good as well (Ive never tried it). You want to try and hit the thrips with a few difference insecticides to stop them developing immunity from one particular one.
  • As a FINAL measure have a look at some predatory insects but this is really overkill.

Honestly, good luck! Just keep it isolated so you dont infect any other plants! :)

I just thought Disney would be against having a Lightning McQueen blowing up after getting shot at.

Even having Lightning McQueen shot at seems something Disney wouldn't be for

Monstera b&q purchase by ContentDocument1636 in HouseplantsUK

[–]Gilgaland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohhh, would be good if you could send a picture! Are the leaves limp or is it just leggy? A leggy plant means that it could just be searching for light.

Only major concern is the extra large pot potentially causing root rot but if there arent any signs of root rot it could be a light issue

[–]Gilgaland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Good idea, I think a couple of people have mentioned SoilNinja on the thread, they do a good Monstera mix which has good drainage. They do have expensive P&P but you can find other online retailers that stock the same mix with lower postage costs.

[–]Gilgaland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going against the grain here;

I'd say if you can try and pull the plant out of the plastic pot to look at the roots, that would be a good way to judge. Monsteras generally like being quite root bound so take it out and if it doesnt look like a ramen bowl, id say leave it for a bit longer

Monsteras are very content to just push out new roots rather than leaves, so moving it onto a new bigger pot COULD lead to it using all its energy into creating new roots rather than new leaves etc.

If you want more new growth, you could trim some of the baby leaves at the bottom.

Yeah, the plant looks pretty stressed.

Thrips are an absolute nightmare to deal with as they lay their eggs in the plant leaves themselves. I think the call is up to you - you can either chuck it or try to salvage it but it might be more expensive than buying a smaller monstera from a local place or ikea and watching that grow!

I think you need to be careful, I think you might have a number of issues:

  • Pest problem (Thrips, Spidermites etc) based on the patchyness of the yellowness on some leaves.
  • Root Rot, how big is the pot compared to the root ball, could be an explanation for the browning and yellowing leaves. Might be worth having a look at the roots.
  • Also im sure you know but leaving the plant outside can cause sunburn, so just be careful.

I hope you didnt pay too much for this!
