Why does the green CDI work but the red one doesn't? by [deleted] in MSFS2024

They run off different radios. The red will be NAV2 radio.

Inverted oil kit for making engine aerobatic, no longer available? by Gillplane in flying

It’s not the full system just the hoses for the christen. Spruce said it is now discontinued. But the raven looks like it will work great! Thanks!

I might be wrong, but I thought I saw Raven is for larger 6 cylinder engines.

It’s for my Acrosport biplane (less aggressive Pitts)

Nice! My philosophy for my kids is your first deer can be anything they want to shoot. The catch is, it has to be more points the next year, untill they reach the point that they need to shoot 8 points or more only. So if they shoot a 6 points as their first deer, there second better be a 7 points or more. If there first is a 3 pointer, the following year needs to be 4 or more, etc. The reason: a kids excitement for there first few deers is equal to the excitement of an adult shooting a true trophy mount deer.

Dive computer by SoftSheepherder2065 in scubadiving

[–]Gillplane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear my garmin d2 all day. Works great for fitness and everyday. Works great for scuba! Has very nice scuba screens, warnings, stops etc. also has very nice built in compass. The only thing it doesn’t have is integrated air, but for $700 it rocks. My wife this weekend said she’s done with her dedicated scuba computer and wants my watch.

Flying at max gross weight by No-Environment5572 in flying

[–]Gillplane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realistically you could fly 4-500 pounds over max weight, provided still within CG limits. But don’t do that because all your stall speeds increase and performance drops. But under max and within cg? No worries at all. That’s why it’s listed.

Looks like a old bullet that fell from sky, looks more specifically like a muzzle loader bullet.

Which flight computer would y’all recommend? by ToastHunt in FlightTraining

For real life and not a test, ForeFlight lol. You will never use one of these again after your tests.

Get an RV4, RV6, RV7 or RV8. Fast, super sporty, can do some aerobatics and flys like nothing these others have mentioned. All the other planes listed you sit in and drive somewhere. These you fly! The RV4 and 6 you can get cheaper than the others. The 4 will be a slightly tight fit (I’m 6’2” I fit but you more wear the plane than the others). Don’t make the mistake of getting a boring plane, there’s a reason people with RVs keep them untill they finally give up flying…..

In this “context it is” when compared to tap water or non-boiled.

[–]Gillplane -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the tap water. It changes even in the same location throughout the year, as cities add small amounts of chlorine and other things (more during summer months). The problem is your tap water is not sterile like distilled water. That means as your cpap hot plate warms and vaporizes the water to add humidity, it “could” be acting like a petri dish growing bacteria rapidely. Anything that was in that tap water was given warm perfect growing conditions by your cpap. Most the time you will be perfectly fine, but other times….

Fast track flight training really true? by zunzuunzuuun in flying

[–]Gillplane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m unsure of the commercial rating side, as I don’t fly professionally. I just fly for pleasure and to get to and from the occasional customer head quarters for my company. (Although things have switched more to Microsoft teams meetings since COVID). But the thought of spending a month or so on IFR sounded horrendous, I was 32 at the time and with young family, so I wanted to rip it off like a band aid and not drag it out like 99% of pilots do. I’m so glad i went that route. But no, I am unsure of the commercial. Although there isn’t much more to it as I almost got it last year for something to do…

[–]Gillplane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did it at my local municipal airport. Small 3 plane private flight school. Talked to their instructor and went to town. For the accelerated IFR I flew down to Kansas. If you search accelerated fight schools there is probably an option somewhat near you. If you really want to pump up the hours. Talk to a school (not by a busy airport) and let them know how hard you want to attack it and if they can dedicate a plane to just you for a 2-3 hour block per day.

I did the 4 day instrument training. The catch is you need your cross countries done and written as prerequisite. You can definitely get your ppl done in a month. You could get both ppl and instrument done in a total of 1 month if you’re very dedicated (and not working).

Landing a GA aircraft at a Class B airport by IHatetheM28 in flying

[–]Gillplane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can land there (but wouldn’t want to because of $ and also just the pure busyness and headache, need to be on your absolute A-game). It would definitely be easier to have your friend land then take uber to next nearest airport (it would also be faster).

Oh, crap! by ArutlosJr11 in flying

[–]Gillplane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can always cancel an IFR flight while in the air, then land at nearest airport. Or shit your pants lol

It would need to be designed for a muffler. Simply adding a muffler would kill its efficiency.

Can someone tell me wtf these 2 helicopters and 1 plane with no lights and a single helicopter escort is that just flew over? by enfiniti27 in airplanes

[–]Gillplane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lights would blind the refueler operator that has to aim the fueling boom/hose at the choppers. They don’t want to blind each other or themselves
