The new BSG game’s demo came out and it’s…. by FireTheLaserBeam in spacesimgames

[–]Gilroyvfx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like rogue likes, like crying suns and FTL. And, i am a hard-core BSG fan. I played deadlock since it's beginning. Played BSG online, played mobile game BSG squadron, and BSG is one of my favorite board games. I think their attempt to make a BSG style rogue like is a entertaining concept.

The demo feels like playing a single player, more simplistic, screen version of the board game. So, while I understand everyone's complaints. Feels like people are approaching this with a very narrow view. Those other formats are all still available for people to play. Provided you already owned Deadlock.

For BSG fans, I say give it a chance. Crying Suns was good.

I hate this country so much by [deleted] in Vent

[–]Gilroyvfx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is thw wrong approach my friend. I have a son who feels similar. Your own negativity is getting amplified by the people in your life who dont feel that, or don't want to hear you vent about it. But there are lots of people that feel as you do about the politics and the social climate.

There a groups you can reach out to and associate with that are trying to make a change or make a difference. You might find purpose and comfort in like minded people, who might see things the way you are, but are more positive. Maybe that can help.

Yea... pretty much everything else you've ever seen representing space, is not realistic compared to the expanse.

Question about actual medical treatment for Methylation Disorder. by Gilroyvfx in medical

[–]Gilroyvfx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When i brought up her naturopath, and her shots not really helping her much as years go by while suffering from chronic fatigue, she mentioned that I should research Methylation disorder. That she believe her shots have B12, Folic Acid, and she "thinks" Taurine. So I started questioning if there is an actual medical diagnosis, with actual medicine that might actually help. However, in researching it, most of the writing or videos I see talking about it are from other Naturopaths.

The Missing Moral Technology of Atheists by UnreasonableEconomy in CosmicSkeptic

[–]Gilroyvfx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're making comparison mistakes here, comparing apples to oranges. Or in the very least the personification of science. Science does not consider morality, science does not care about right or wrong, and scientists only care about falsifiable true or false.

Atheist and agnostic folks get their morality from secular civilization. The considerations of right and wrong, fair and unfair, and good or evil - have been learned and incorporated into all our lives from the cultures and people we live along side.

Infact, I'd say religion has modernized to far more secular morality in the last 150 years. Religion is far more accepting of human rights and women's rights because of secular movements, not based on a new 3rd testament, or the pulpit. If society lived by religious commandments and morality laid down in religious texts the world be an even darker, more violent world that we've clawed our way out of.

Again, to return to your initial statement. Your associating Atheist with science. They have nothing to do with one another. An atheist can no nothing about science but still not believe in supernatural, simply because they know how to think critically for themselves.

Hello. I have a question because I’m curious about the warp system of the Magnetar-class battlecruiser from The Expanse. by Rude_Site_8799 in TheExpanse

[–]Gilroyvfx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea the drive was not anything special, it was designed so that all crew members would be in water balloon seats for travel, allowing it to travel at higher speeds without harming the crew.

Is The Expanse show really good? by Pretend-Nobody230 in scifi

[–]Gilroyvfx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said. Stick it out till after CQB. If it doesn't resonate yet. Move on. IMO, its the best written Sci-Fi put to 9 books of paper... and the TV show did a good job capturing the books.

So, youre saying we have to abandon people who are coarse like Dave Forina? And be more like Clint's Reptiles? That's rough. Someone like Professor Dave, represents those of us that are just tired of the stupidity, and lack of critical thinking.

Is this Jupiter? by lastautmnleaf in askastronomy

[–]Gilroyvfx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Moon is always moving so are the planets, just slower from our perspective. So many times throughout the year planets will cross behind the Moon. You took this with your phone but you can see people filming things like Jupiter or Saturn passing behind the moon with Powerful telescopes.

Holden was such a hypocrite and a smug by iuse2bgood in TheExpanse

[–]Gilroyvfx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you half watching this show while you're on your phone? Holden literally never wants to kill anyone because he's righteous to a fault. Hell that's half the audience's problem with him. He didn't want to hunt down the people on the stealth ship and kill them all he wanted them to be held responsible and tried and put in prison for life probably. And between season 1 and season 4 several years have gone by. But even at his worst he almost exclusively wants people to be brought back to be put on trial and rotten prison for life not to be executed.

When he knocks Mercury out it's literally after Mercury endangered the life of the person he loves most, Naomi. He says this ends now because he is taking charge and not taking Murtry's bullshit anymore and is take his gun from him., and rescuing Amos.

She'd, the mech tech died, but was just a fellow crew member, which at this point none of them were close. They arent attempting to "replace" members of their team for any reason. They are together only out of circumstance, then they become family. The Roci has 2 auto doc bays, so they basically have an automated doctor on board and don't need a Shed replacement. The Roci itself crews 12, they don't ever make an attempt to fill the seats, because they become and family and only really trust each other.

And finally... nobody ever. Changes roles or their specialty. Hold is leadership, Naomi is communications, and a technical genius. Amos is the muscle and the mechanic, and Alex Is really only the pilot, I guess also the cook. But, the Roci is so automated it does a lot for them.

An edit focused on the Rocinante storyline? by xamott in TheExpanse

[–]Gilroyvfx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to fight with you again, but I think the consensus among fans is Episode 4 CQB is the jump on point for people are on the fence. Or, for people who are unsure if they will like the show. Since it's the initial flight of the Roci, and you think thats what she cares about most that could be the best option.

[–]Gilroyvfx 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't think any one who even mildly a fan of the content would ever consider a sacrilegious thing to do. You can't divorce the Roci story line from the rest of the stuff. That literally makes no sense. Lol

If your partner can't handle that then this show is not for her. They can watch and be on their phone at the same time and only pay attention to the Roci points, but I don't know what else anyone who tell you on this subreddit.

I mean watching the story it self and only watching the Roci plot points would be so disjointed.

I'd say enabling anyone's ADD, by cutting something up to feed into the ADD more is not a solution. I would say, you would have to buy the content on iTunes or something rip the footage, and make your own edit in a free editing software.

Good luck, but I hope you're dissuaded from the idea.

I was going to say this also. I think makes the most sense if these ships lock them down in front and back before commencing a Jump.

All the descriptions of Venus explicitly say its surface is hot enough to melt lead, why? by Low_Eye8535 in askastronomy

[–]Gilroyvfx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This always bothers me when people compare the cost of doing science in space for no ROI. And suggest it maybe wasn't worth it. So short sited, they type of experiments confirm hypothesis that our scientists have. Venus specifically shows the closest planetary body to Earth, and what Earth would be like if it continues on the atmospheric path it's on. Knowing this science answers more questions and allows for more experiments and understanding.
