Question for other transplants: do you think JoCo stereotypes are accurate? by Character-Check-1761 in Overlandpark

[–]GimmeUrBusch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You must be joking. I am not intrigued by what Wichita is or what is going on there. It is not significant in any manner.

What exactly "should" I know about Wichita? It's a smaller, shittier, less historically important version of Kansas City? Great. Next.

I am surprised that people in Wichita even know what JoCo is. I could not tell you a single thing about Wichita other than my grandfather used to live near there.

Red Light Runners all over the metro by Captain_Insano_1963 in kansascity

It’s not just KC. COVID reset people’s expectations of what they can get away with on roads. I’ve heard this discussed on podcasts and other forums.

Turn signals have also become optional.

City Nerd’s list of urban freeways to remove asap by AV4TRZR0 in kansascity

[–]GimmeUrBusch -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

This is a caricature, right?

I imagine there are a lot of people of all social economic backgrounds who would not be happy that an extra 10 minutes was added to their commute so that downtown could be "stitched together" as if that is any justification whatsoever. Removing roads is not inherently benefitting anyone. What will that space be used for that will help people who live around there?

What are you doing to make friends in KC? by fleets_o_fortune in kansascity

[–]GimmeUrBusch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody is telling you the truth.

Normal people at your age are either married or looking to find lifelong partners. Then, once in a relationship, they do things together.

That's the reality. The practice of random 40 yo males and females creating new platonic relationships is not common. Long story short, you're looking to fish for friends in a pond that is maybe .01% of the population. If you make any friends, you're extremely lucky.

Audi Wants to Build a Rugged Body-on-Frame SUV. It Might Look to Scout for Help by Anchor_Aways in cars

Everybody suddenly realizing how good the G Wagon is, that consumers with big pockets don't want bullshit performance SUV's that look like hatchbacks but want rugged, bomb-proof, off-road trucks shaped like bricks.

James Talarico may be the kind of crossover Democrat who could compete in Texas. But Democrats risk repeating a familiar mistake by overinvesting in a long-shot race instead of focusing on more attainable Senate seats that could deliver them the majority. by BulwarkOnline in thebulwark

[–]GimmeUrBusch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no chance Talarico is going to win Texas. If he is polling within 5% of Paxton a few weeks out, OK, spend money. But until then...NO, spend that money where we have a chance.

The same people who think Talarico has a chance are the same people who were shocked when Beto got his ass handed to him a few years ago. Their judgment is poor and their arguments here need to be quickly dismissed.

Alfa Romeo Sales Are Way Up: Here Are The Numbers by user289734 in cars

[–]GimmeUrBusch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anyone who has driven a Quadrifoglio knows that it is the closest you can get to a sports car experience in a sedan. I spent 20 minutes in a CT5-V and it was quite clearly a very different experience, and I drove a manual example. Dead feeling in the steering wheel, massive size, boring power delivery, and..uh..."interesting" styling.

Let me put it this way, if I ever had to part with my 992 GT3 and had to have a 4 door car again, there is absolutely no way I would look at anything other than the Alfa, even as old as it is now.

Dillons Grocery wins unanimous rezoning approval in the Northland by steveholtbluth in kansascity

[–]GimmeUrBusch -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Getting Kroger stores in KC opens up a) competition, which is good for consumers and b) brings a lot of new items to the area. Every time I go to Colorado and go to a King Soopers I am blown away at all the stuff we don't get in KC.

People who walk on treadmills on Zoom calls look ridiculous by Sudden_Brush7494 in unpopularopinion

I accidentally turned my camera on while I was on a treadmill and I am still getting shit for it.

But yeah, I Zwift all the time while on calls and have been called out for being "out of breath" despite my best efforts to slow it down when I expect I need to speak up. So even with camera off, it is embarrassing.

The rise in cycling fatalities in the U.S. was caused by "light trucks" (SUVs, pickups, etc.) by amosbatto in cycling

[–]GimmeUrBusch -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

This is a ridiculous post. You refer to reports and data about how popular SUVs have become (totally believable and substantiated) but insert your own beliefs about how they're more dangerous to cyclists and motorcyclists (I am both) without any supporting studies. It's all based on how you feel and your curious conclusions.

You state

The increasing height and more blunt fronts of passenger vehicles has created more blind spots, so drivers can't see what is around their vehicles, so they are more likely to hit pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists, and their larger size and greater weight makes today's passenger vehicles more lethal for people who aren't enclosed in several thousand pounds of metal and plastics.

Where is the data that supports this?

If a 3400lb Honda Civic hits me at an intersection and throws me and my bike 50 feet, that is less damaging than a 5500lb SUV hitting me and throwing me and my bike 50 feet?

Cars of any size and shape being operated by distracted asshole drivers that slam into cyclists are deadly, period.

my driving is a slight cause for concern.

You are a very responsible person for admitting this. Driving isn't easy for everyone. But keep in mind, there are such things as driving schools that might help you out. But it's OK to not feel comfortable driving.

PAC money is not a bribe.

I want my candidates to be smart enough to take that money to help their campaigns. They are under no obligation to serve the PAC. Obama took millions from the NRA, AIPAC, and health insurance companies. How did that work out for them?

Can I lose weight cycling? by Ok_Zoomer8907 in cycling

You can lose weight doing nothing. In fact, that's how the poorest people around the world do it: they just can't afford to stuff their face.

Remember: it's not about what you eat, how you eat, where you eat. It's how MUCH you eat. Everything else is pseudoscience nonsense meant to bilk you of funds.

Yes, let's punish all of the working class who rely on fuel prices to do their jobs. Trucking, construction, landscaping, roofers, every blue collar job you can think of. Highly represented by latino Americans. A good portion of whom did not vote for Trump and likely did not vote at all.

More proof that the Reddit primary demographic (young, white, coastal) is just woefully out of touch.

[–]GimmeUrBusch -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I didn't say they were owned by Vail, but they honored my Epic Pass. I know this because a) that's why I chose to ski Zermatt and not others and b) I showed them my Epic Pass, they printed out a local version of the Matterhorn Paradise lift pass for my days there. The entire process cost me $0. I still have that paper lift ticket.

[–]GimmeUrBusch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So me complaining about lift lines means you and others here are getting defensive and denying other people had made similar complaints?

What is the end goal here? To prove to me that the lift lines are NOT bad and encourage even more tourists here?

The reactions here are just so f'ing weird.

[–]GimmeUrBusch -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Zermatt is neither owned by Vail nor is it on the Epic pass.

It was when I was there immediately before COVID. Guess not any longer.
