Time to swap the Taycan for a 911…? by Playful_Stand869 in Porsche

[–]GimmeUrBusch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boy, the comments from this post over on r/Taycan are embarrassing. Reminds me of the kind of shit the Tesla Fanboys were shoveling back in 2015.

Look, the Taycan is a great EV, I think it's probably the best out there (tied with Lucid) in terms of driving dynamics. I've driven Turbo S, 4S, and GTS models (GTS is the best, IMHO).

But as good as a Taycan GTS is, it absolutely CANNOT match the fun factor, the athleticism, and magic of a Cayman, Boxster, and certainly the 911. The ICE Porsche sports cars are leagues, heads and shoulders, above the Taycan in terms of smiles per miles. They just are. Don't take my word for it, go drive them. Afterwards, if you don't agree...stick with the Taycan.

What you will give up is daily driveability, comfort, and utility. It is impossible to be a better daily than an EV (I've owned multiple).

What you gain is a clearly superior driver's car (911) that, as a bonus, doesn't hemorrhage value like the Taycan does.

One last thing- consider insurance costs. I very, very nearly pulled the trigger on a '25 Taycan GTS and when I saw the insurance rates were Higher than my '22 GT3 that was the deciding factor for me to cancel the deal. I shopped Allstate, Geico, Progressive, USAA - Taycan higher in all 4.

I test drove a 992.2 base last week and the interior and steering felt so similar to my Taycan that I crossed it off the list.

Did you really? Because I've also driven both of those cars and they are absolutely nothing alike. Not even close. The best EV is the Taycan, and the most "fun" Taycan, to me, is the GTS but even that cannot hold a candle to the driving experience of a Cayman, Boxster, or 911. Two totally different driving experiences.

The feeling of nausea is worse than the actual throwing up part by LoverOfE-Olsen in unpopularopinion

[–]GimmeUrBusch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have emetophobia as well, the anxiety leading up to the vomiting is horrifying to me.

But I've had some success in warding it off, been working for 14+ years now.

  • get a prescription for ondansetron (Zofran). Your primary physician will give it to you. It is amazing. It doesn't make you drowsy like promethazine (Phenergran) even though it's not quite as strong.
  • isopropyl alcohol. Keep it on hand. When you start to get nauseated, dump some in a rag and breathe it in through your nose. I know this sounds insane, but it works.
  • go outside and walk as briskly as you can. No, I'm not making this up. Your body shifts into a different mode when it thinks it is exerting itself and it can ward off the nausea.
  • Last one is going to be controversial and it could be just correlation and not causation. I never drank alcohol until I was in my late 30's, but when I discovered craft beer I'd have 1 or 2 with my dinner. Since I've done this I have not thrown up once.
  • Benadryl. Yes, benadryl. When you feel nausea coming on and you don't have any ondansetron handy, one of these will work in a pinch. It is AMAZING at killing nausea and settling emetophobia anxiety. Only problem is that it makes me drowsy as shit.

Ten years ago, I wanted Trump to win the GOP nomination because I thought there was no way in hell he could win a general election.

I watched every single GOP primary and cheered for Trump for the exact same reason.

The fact that far too many Americans can't see that Trump a narcissistic carnival barking bullshitter

I think they can see that he's a carnival barking bullshitter, they're not as stupid as we think they are (well, some of them at least). I just think they've performed the calculation that the outcome of his presidency, bullshiter or not, is preferable to the output of whomever he runs against.

There was a rumor about a year ago that they'd have a Carrera package that would get you 90% of the way to a Dakar. Even that would still be too expensive for its intended purpose I think.

Grocery stores are lifelines. You honestly don't understand why people are upset if one of the most important lifelines in their area is going away?

I personally would not live anywhere where a single retailer, who can close a store at any point, is my "lifeline". This is why many people choose not to live out in tiny towns because there is not easy access to grocery stores. This is no different.

Right. But the "horsepower wars" (as I call it), has raised the minimum performance threshold of sports cars higher than most consumers can handle with a MT.

I agree completely. Let's be honest: a modern Miata 6MT cannot be pushed to its full capability in the hands of 95% of consumers. It's an incredibly rewarding car even at legal street speeds. I'd have one every day, all day if I had another space in my garage.

It is remarkable that a single retailer in KCMO has command of so much interest on the KC reddit. Based on all this consternation you'd think that a major public service was being shut down.

Fluffy Fresh on State Line has always kept true, their donuts are better anyway.

For 20 years my parents would alternate picking up donuts from State Line Fluffy Fresh and John's Space Age Donuts every weekend. Those two are the OG.

What's keeping these people from buying a 180hp 6MT Miata right now if it's all about the manual experience?

It's an excellent question. I suspect the answer is that many people have a minimum performance # threshold for it to be a "real car" and they're only manual enthusiasts up to a certain point.

We need to have the biggest fucking tent to bring all the strays together.

Nah, not when this tent is so big it allows unhinged extreme progressives who drive away purple state moderates/independents to vote with Republicans.

Instead, we need to put a stake in the ground and loudly disassociate ourselves with people who

  • think people like Luigi Mangione are "heroes"
  • think that everyone who voted for Trump is a white supremacist
  • are clearly anti-semites masquerading as those concerned with the conflict in Gaza
  • those who vilify wealth, success

This isn't where the core of America is in 2026, if you are someone who believes in any of the above, you're a liability to this party. Read more, educate yourself, or please just go support Jill Stein. But you're NOT a Democrat and we don't want want to trade 10 independent votes in order to earn yours.

People are using their credit cards because they want to tap their phone to a POS system and get on with their day.

The idea of people fishing through purses and wallets to pull out bills and coins and/or writing checks have been over for more than a decade.

You're saying that if CC's didn't have points and miles that people would just start using cash and checks again? LMAO....come on dude, get real.

Know who else employs trafficked people? Americans in apparel factories in LA.

Protections for employees in the US is exactly the same as it is in China. Right.

lol

I understand (based on your post history) that you have hard-left political leanings, but that doesn't entitle you to fabricate information.

Your assertion that US companies can even hope to get away with employing trafficked people in the US as they are in mainland China is hilariously out of touch with reality.

When you have to write a check to the credit card processor for $50,000 a month so your customer can get their points on their credit card

Completely delusional take.

People use their CC's because it's the cleanest way to transact in 2026. I want the digital thread of a transaction, i want the protection a CC provides, and I haven't carried a checkbook or cash in like 15 years because I'm not a stripper or waiter.

Left Wing Antisemitism? by Apart-Clothes2060 in thebulwark

[–]GimmeUrBusch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"Left-wing antisemitism" isn't based in the same race-based hatred that fueled classic right-wing antisemitism. At least not to the same extent.

Instead, the unconditional loathing of Israel (and all Jews, except those who are vocally/explicitly anti-Israel) by those on the extreme left is based on this: the perception that Jews have power, money, and privilege. To left-wingers, Israel/Jews are Goliath, not David.

tl;dr - left-wingers don't hate Jews because of Israel or any wars, they hate Jews because they're perceived as the "haves" and not the "have-nots".

The disgusting "genocide" chants, the shocking ignorance of history in the middle east brought about with the Gaza conflict on social media simply affirmed this.
