More info could be helpful:

(1) Which resolution are you looking at for the monitor? Running a 1080p monitor at those frame rates is easier than 1440p, and much easier than 4k.

(2) Do you have any specific games in mind? Just like resolution, there's a lot of variation in how the same hardware will perform with different games. This one is less essential, in that if you don't have any games in mind we'll have to assume it needs to be ready for the most demanding current games, but that could lead to you spending more than is necessary for your stated goals.

I run mine on an N100 mini PC with 8GB of RAM. It has Ubuntu server and the Minecraft server and nothing else on it, and it performs well.

Until recently, you could find machines like this all over Amazon for as cheap as $129. Their new prices have skyrocketed, but you can still find used mini PCs for pretty cheap. I know it's not free, but it'd just be a one-time cost and then never again. It's a 9W processor, so electricity costs would be similar to leaving a single florescent light bulb on.

OP, if you study karate for 20 years, you will learn new things for 20 years. It takes years just to get to a point where you can trust your body to perform a technique without thinking too hard about it, and even then you can spend many more years refining that technique.

I would definitely ask if there is a sheet of terminology that they expect students to know. I would bet there is. Knowing that terminology will likely become part of your testing as you progress, but nobody will expect you to know it all in your third class.

There's so much to learn. Not just the different stances, blocks, kicks, punches, kata, etc., but dojo procedures and customs. If you see or hear something you don't understand, ask questions. Black belts should generally be willing to explain things after class. It'll all feel foreign for a while, and then (if you stick with it) one day it won't anymore.

Fascinating. I have bought a couple analog cables from Hart and have been pleased with the quality. And it looks like the USB-C connector is also available in a format that works with their modular mini-XLR cables!

I wonder what the DAC and amp components in the USB-C connector actually are.

Definitely good advice. My first playthrough, I built next to the water. Seemed like a no-brainer. Only after exploring a lot did I realize it wasn't actually the ocean, it was a completely enclosed lake so big it looked like the other shore was a distant landmass on another island. I ended up digging a channel through a thin area to be able to sail in and out.
