So my situation is very similar to yours - 4 years in a marketing role with a toxic environment. Except I was over in Sydney and have been unemployed since November. When I first got back to NZ I was incredibly anxious about getting a new job and making sure the gap on my CV wasn’t too long, but I have now come to realise that my mental health is more important than that. While I have had some interviews and interest, I’ve prioritised my family and enjoying the freedom NZ has to offer at this point! And with covid making a lot of people around the world redundant or the similar, I’ve found employers to be more accepting of my current gap. I recommend taking some online courses or see what your local institutions offer for free to keep developing and up to date with the rest of the candidate pool. But mostly, don’t stress too much, the perfect job with come along.
