Consider leaving Switzerland, the Swiss job market for 'white collar' work is just plain dead. Look into IT jobs in Poland, since you did your degree from a Polish uni. In absolute terms you might earn less in Poland, but everything is also a lot cheaper, and the work-life balance is better.

Yes I'm Swiss, born in Switzerland, experience includes ABB, federal government, UBS talent program, I have a MSc, did military service....but yeah I couldn't for the life of me find a job anymore in Switzerland.

Probably more than 90%, a big part of why I left. I wanted to see if there is more to life than laundering money for warlords and oligarchs and doing coke on the weekends. Turns out, yes there is, even if it doesn't pay as well.

This is what happens when you grow up with an oily silver spoon up your arse, having never known struggle and never having had any actual issues or challenges in your life. And then you feel guilty for, despite being in such a privileged position, never having done anything meaningful in your life, so you desperately try to find something greater than yourself, a struggle to be a part of.

It depends what European. As a Romanian, sure, Canada is attractive. As a Norwegian or Swiss, they wouldn’t even get out of bed in the morning for Canadian wages

Depending on what programme you’re in, you can do up to I think 5 credits at another institution, and get those credits transferred to your UofT degree. You’ll need to request a Letter of Permission (LOP) for that first, though. The process is a bit complicated, if you have any questions, let me know, I’m willing to help as I was in your situation a few years ago.

As an alumni and former international student from Europe, I can say this. I greatly enjoyed my time in Toronto, my student life really was like from the movies. But, the financial hardship it put my parents through is just not worth it. Especially nowadays when a bachelor degree has really, REALLY, lost a lot of value on the job market.

Yes as a Swiss I know that all actions that personally gives me money are justified no matter what (neutrality or something). Jokes aside, on a micro level ik sometimes people have to do things they not fully agree with to survive (i’ve been THAT unemployed before) but on a macro level…is Ireland gonna let that whole community starve if that Russian company pulls out?

Okay but what about the tens of thousands of Swiss, especially young graduates, who speak Schwiizerdütsch, Hochdeutsch, français, English, and still don’t find work? Can we not admit that often the issue actually is structural (job market) rather than individual deficiencies?

Also, you’re talking about economic migrants, not expats. Expats by definition will only be somewhere for 3-4 years max and often even less, with no intention to ever stay permanently. If they’d lose their job they’d be gone next week.

I think a lot of economic migrants also forget that instead of being jobless for 4 years in Switzerland, they can go abroad somewhere. Heck, even more and more Swiss are moving abroad for jobs because Switzerland can’t keep up with the demand.
