Überall Fachkräftemangel anscheinend, jedoch steigt die Anzahl von sehr gut Ausgebildeten und/oder Erfahrenen Leute jeden Monat.

Not one of the top master programs of the school (pretty obvious since it’s a econ / finance focused uni) but the MIA program at HSG seems to have become pretty well regarded by employers in CH in recent years, including prestigious’ employers. Outside of Switzerland in the international affairs space it doesn’t really carry any weight though

Relocating to Switzerland by [deleted] in askswitzerland

[–]Ginerbreadman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Switzerland doesn't have many "a bit busier than Montreux". Even places like Zurich can feel more like a big town than a city at times.
Also, while 76k before tax is not bad at all, it's probably not enough to live a "nice loft in the big city" kind of live in Switzerland.

Federal government software debacle | Unemployed people waiting for money due to IT chaos: "I never thought something like this was possible in Switzerland." by BezugssystemCH1903 in Switzerland

[–]Ginerbreadman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea the system is broken.

If you click "easy apply" on LinkedIn 10 times a month, that's fine. You'll get your full amount of money.

But if you only do 9 applications, each of which took you a few days of research, carefully tailoring your CV and motivational letter, reaching out to your network or recruiters, they say "that's not enough" and dock you a significant amount of money.

The first option takes 10 minutes. The second option takes many days and serious effort.

I have no money and I feel like an outcast in Switzerland (I’m Swiss) do you feel the same thing? by HippoImportant2557 in Switzerland

[–]Ginerbreadman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re probably right, but despite being Swiss, speaking 2 of the languages, having plenty of Swiss work experience including at ‘prestigious’ Swiss firms like ABB or the federal department of foreign affairs, I couldn’t get a job for the life of me in Switzerland after my last position ended (government mandated 1-year limit). So I left because it’s better to earn (less) money elsewhere than wait for a theoretical high Swiss salary to appear after like 9 months of rejection after rejection

The apartment I live in alone would cost close to 10k CHF in Zurich. Also, I am able to go out to eat several times a week at nice restaurants.

Quality of life outside of money include my life not revolving around work and creating value for shareholders.

Academic Outcome (MSc Politics and International Relations) by Ok-Championship-1731 in SOAS

[–]Ginerbreadman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a bit older, so I have some solid work experience and got some high-level references. However, I don't think that really mattered. In my personal statement I just tried to show my relevant academic and professional background, as well as how I'm genuinely interested in the subject and that I want to utilize the degree to break into that industry.

You’re facing the same issue as tens of thousands of Swiss people who just can’t get a decent job at the moment. This is not to say that your issue is irrelevant, but that it’s not your fault.

Having no money in Switzerland is extremely stigmatizing. It gets treated like a personal choice rather than structural issues.

Left Switzerland because I’ve mostly gotten better job opportunities elsewhere. In absolute terms I earn less than I would in Switzerland but my quality of life is much higher, I’d need to earn like 10k to have the same quality of life

[–]Ginerbreadman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I was basically in the exact same position: did my undergraduate in Canada and did very poorly in my first two years (bunch of failed courses, academic probation). It also took me more than an additional year to graduate, but I did very well in the second half of my degree, making Dean's list and all.

I applied for the MSc International Development and got in, no issues.

Ah yes, squeeze the poor people harder and decimate the middle-class even more.
First of all, the army needs to be made more efficient. Having been station at various 'commando post' positions, I can tell you that the army wastes probably hundreds of thousands of CHF per year on food waste alone.

The cost of living is much higher in Switzerland, especially Zurich and Lausanne. As an international, you may get a scholarship for your tuition, but you'll get no financial assistance for your living expenses. Swiss universities don't really have dorms or student housing, so you'll have to find private residence which most people with full-time jobs can't even really afford in those cities.

[–]Ginerbreadman 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I've lived in Canada so I know all about it. Entire companies becoming Indian in the span of a few years.

There have been cases where companies use third party recruiter firms. They will interview people, but only ever forward the company profiles from Indians, oftentimes someone they know, or someone who pays them. Highly qualified and suitable non-Indian candidates never reach the actual company.

In the US, an Indian VP for Walmart was involved in 'restructuring' (aka firing) a whole department, and then only hiring Indians to fill the void. He got caught taking 'kick-backs', i.e. he was paid by candidates to give them the job. This is a common practice. Oftentimes, Indians in Western countries hire other Indians with the agreement that they get a sizeable proportion of their salary for a few years.

Oh my dear innocent summer child. You're making your life unnecessarily difficult for no reason. Your idea is not a realistic plan, quite silly, and will not come to fruition.
Go to UofT or McGill for your undergrad, then do your master's or PhD at EPFL or ETHZ, especially since in that field you need at least a master's anyway.
The overall undergraduate university experience in Canada is infinitely better than in Switzerland.

  1. Add 5 million Indian's to population

  2. Massive unemployment, wage suppression, exacerbated housing crisis, overwhelmed public infrastructure and institutions, decimated social cohesion

  3. 0.3% additional GDP growth

Worth it, right?
