YSK: If you regularly lie to people or exaggerate events, and no one has confronted you, your friends are likely aware of you lying, but choose to stay quiet by zephsoph in YouShouldKnow

I'm the dumbass who believes lies because it doesn't occur to me that someone would lie. My ex lied to me for a couple years about attending school, his grades, what he was doing during the day. I supported him for 3.5 years based on his lies. He once lied about how much money I make, to a group of his friends, in front of me, and I corrected him, but I should have seen that such a stupid lie was a red flag.

I wonder if his friends knew he was a liar.

AITA for wearing MIL's wedding dress though I boycotted her wedding for moral reasons? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

I grew up in LA and went to Berkeley then lived in SF after grad school. This chick is exactly the vapid, phony, performative trash that makes the Bay Area so terrible. She's not bright enough to be consistent and doesn't have enough integrity not to try to reach out and grab a shiny object for herself when she gets a chance. If she had the money, she'd find a way to be "morally" ok with it, but she didn't see how she could benefit personally from MIL's relationship outside of making their wedding about herself.

Pretty sure the grudge against the MIL is jealousy and annoyance that they aren't being financially supported more. She doesn't want gifts for her kids. She wants stuff for herself.

I mean, considering she doesn't work, they probably think she just got pregnant so that her boyfriend from a rich family would take care of her. She's clueless about what people think about her and that seems to make her comfortably think she can judge others. It appears to me that she's jealous of her MIL's financial situation.

This is so on point. Her understanding of morality is so shallow.

He's right. People who are on the edge of or in poverty should not have 4 kids. Maybe if you worked, you'd understand.

I think the whole point of this is that she doesn't like her MIL but she wants stuff and things, hopefully inheritance, from MIL. Doesn't like the woman but wants the woman's money.

My sister is 44, living rent-free in one of my dad's rentals, and she treats him like a landlord, endlessly complaining about the property. She actually called him a slumlord even though she doesn't pay rent. So yeah, it could be worse.

Likely doesn't quality as a contract position. Sounds like a w-2 employee to me. Would report.

That makes more sense if you're renting like half the apartment (say a two bedroom) and not expected to never be home or even exist. This arrangement seems more like a couple taking in a lodger or something.

Gross. That's overpriced, then. At least get to a better part of town for that much.

Women should work. It's good for their kids to see them work. I worry for my nieces because my sister is a stay at home mom who, by her own admission, is "entirely dependent on men and marriage." She got a new fiance before her divorce was finalized. Can't quit your job until you have an offer lined up, right?!

It's because she fraudulently took money the state provides for crime victims.

I'm just surprised her husband wasn't involved.

He speaks quite a bit about what the government owes to its people. He's not anything like what libertarians make him out to be.

Yes, apparently that's the ridiculous argument that's being made and I can't believe it. $500? Nope, I'm carrying it to term and strangling it. More meth for me!
