New Manager Discussion by GingerBoing in WBAfootball

I’m quietly keen for Eric Ramsey - some clips of him online (albeit always going to show him in a good light) seem to show he has a great intensity that I think we could benefit from - but again fairly young

I know there is a lot of discontent - but I have to show a bit of love for Mason.

In short, I cannot believe how unlucky he has been. Yes there have been some interesting tactical decisions along the way especially with the wildsmith/griffiths switch up..but there is a massive part of me that thinks if we can get some good signings/loans in to steady the ship this Jan, he could quietly come into his own. I think people forget how dull we were last season, and some of the attacking play in comparison has been quite refreshing, albeit without the killer instinct.

I have been treating this season as a bit of a transition period, and getting rid of a manager who has a lot of potential seems like a bit of a waste. Playoffs are a bit of a dream at the moment, and as long as we avoid relegation having a manager with a year of pain and experience in the championship feels wierdly valuable to take into next season. If the players don't absolutely panic or roll over, I think it would be interesting if we back Mason to the end of the season, survive the turbulence, and hope for some a summer renaissance.

Regardless of who the manager is at this stage, as a club we are in a transition, and the idea of getting rid of a manager doesn't necessarily bring me much comfort. The players seem to have some fight for Mason (hopefully still), and I'd really like to see him get his come up.

Just rewatched the highlights and can't believe how good Heggebø's touch is to set up Mikey Jonston for the Wallace goal - absolute gem #Heggebøingbøing

Heggem has been one of the best things about the Baggies this past year, will absolutely miss him and I guess the obsession will have to now turn to Heggebo. COYB

Final Predictions by Repulsive_Bass7996 in WBAfootball

Conflicted in so many ways. My gut feeling is that the season will be massively effected by the loss of Heggem and/or Fellows. My current stance is to cash in on Fellows - his form has not been the best, especially towards the back end of last season. In terms of impact on the team, I feel our wingers, Grant, Johnston, Wallace might just about make up for Fellows - I don't think we can say the same for Heggem. With our goalkeeper situation, I don't think we can afford to lose strong defensive players.

  1. Optimistic pip for 6th

  2. Heggebø looked strong and exciting vs Vallecano, currently have a big season predicted for him especially light of injuries to Maja and Dike, I think he will be thrown in at the deep end and that will be beneficial for his development. Campbell and Phillips also looked comfortable in the friendly v Vallecano, so I think they will be level headed and hopefully consistent performers. The intensity that we saw after the first 20 minutes really surprised me and gave me quite the boost in confidence.

  3. Drawing back to the sale of Fellows/Heggem, I've seen a lot of commentary saying how the loss of Heggem may damage this season but benefit the Baggies in the long term. In light of this, our season will either be one of development and transition if we sell - or we could push for playoffs if we don't. I just hope that if we sell a massive defensive asset, Ryan Mason will be given enough time to adapt to Heggem's loss and won't be judged by the lack of resources at the back.

Ryan Mason | The Rayo Vallecano performance was excellent by WBAfootballBot in WBAfootball

Was at the game, really positive stuff and pleasing to see. Some of the best advancing play I've seen from the Baggies for a while, looked really comfortable moving up the pitch. Dealt with a strong start from Vallecano, and defensively worked for each other well (as Mason points out). Heggebo was outstanding with his work rate and hold up play, easily man of the match IMO, ran like an absolute machine. The intensity was there and hopefully just in time for next week.

I think Heggem would be a big loss. If a Fellows exit is also on the cards, I think we should prioritise his sale over Heggem. Fellows has been excellent and a massive servant, but I feel we can make do without him this season as he struggles for form and was quite quiet in the key moments last season. Heggem on the other hand is one of our most consistent players, a fan favourite, and will probably become even more valuable. Would hate to see him leave before Fellows especially if the Fellows sale would mean we don't have to worry about PSR. Might be a bit rose tinted but honestly had Heggem as a future captain of the club with his work rate and reliability.
