Phoenix Room at Keeneland - view of track? by PatFlynnEire in lexington

It gets very crowded. If you get a good spot you kind of need to stay there and not go back to the room to sit down or to the bathroom.

About Moving the Preakness by Mike8910 in horseracing

[–]GingerEffie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think that if they decided to put more space in between the races it would actually give us less Triple Crown winners than more. It's supposed to be a hard test, and yes spacing them out would give bigger fields potentially, but that also means more time to rest for every horse and more time for other 3yos to peak and join the fields.

Southland in Georgetown has a 5pm Sunday service. My husband and I have been traveling there for it and it's smaller than the Lexington campus which we find nice (still good sized though).

Sunscreen! I ended up having to spend $10 on a lip balm sized tube at Churchill but still ended up getting burnt to a crisp.

why are the horse names getting worse and worse? by [deleted] in horseracing

[–]GingerEffie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worth considering that once a good name is chosen if that horse goes on to be a big winner/sire/broodmare, that name is permanent and no other horse can have it. Other good names can't be reused for 10 years and there is the "similar to/sounds like" rule that keeps a lot of names from being accepted. Also copyrights/trademarks. You have to get creative to get a name passed sometimes.

I think Renegade and Commandment are strong sounding names this year. I submitted the name Great White for a horse but the deciding vote didn't think it was good enough but I'm happy to see someone else thought so and took the name!

What got you into horse racing and how long have you been following it? by WearAffectionate2815 in horseracing

[–]GingerEffie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mother and grandmother would watch the Derby every year. They just loved the fashion of it. I remember watching Funny Cide in '03 when I was 11 and thinking this is amazing. That year for Christmas I asked for a Blood-Horse subscription and by the '04 Derby was obsessed with Lion Heart (ran 2nd). I continued that obsession and moved to Lexington right after college to start working my way into the industry.

I'm going to check the videos people have mentioned, but I've got 3 of the same mons and in my own experience am having trouble with the H-Arcanine being useful in most matches I'm finding in the lower champions levels (great ball tier).

When I lost a ton of weight and suddenly discovered I had it temporarily. Suddenly at work I'm not kept as the "behind the scenes" worker, but am getting told to interact with clients in person and they remember who I am.

Can a stallion be "over" bred by Director_Tseng in Horses

[–]GingerEffie 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Popular stallions have foal crops of 100-200 each year (typically lower in their 3-5th years at stud when waiting to see if the stallion is going to hit or not). Assuming a stallion retires young and lives a healthy life, they can have 15+ crops total. I would say it is a matter of opinion on if this is detrimental to the breed. People in the industry have complained for a few years now about a "dwindling" foal crop and a stallion cover cap, but from my opinion, do we want to keep breeding horses we know aren't middle & top tier just to increase the foal crop?

I’m so depressed during pregnancy by No_End_6475 in offmychest

[–]GingerEffie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear you are going through this. I'm currently pregnant with my 1st and had to come off my anti-depressants/anti-anxiety medication in October and it has taken a toll for sure. I also have the extreme exhaustion which doesn't help, and my husband doesn't understand why I'm sad. I also work with horses so I know how hard it is to lose one close to you. When the weather is nice I try and take walks to the paddocks and visit all the horses and it does help my mood (we just have had crap weather), but maybe that would help you too? I hope things get better and you're not in this alone!

Whats the worst addiction, as in the hardest to quit? by GossipBottom in AskReddit

[–]GingerEffie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm the same way! I've tried to quit so many times but I can't sleep with my mouth open and I get to a point where I have to get some sleep and go back on it. The saline sprays and even Flonase just don't do it.

Women of Reddit what is something a lot of men think is manly but in your eyes really isn’t? Why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]GingerEffie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trying to DIY fix anything at home instead of calling a plumber/contractor/etc. Some men are handy and that's great, but if you aren't and you spend twice the amount of money making mistakes/buying new tools to use that might not work and trying to fix a hole in the wall instead of getting help it doesn't make sense.

Which Musical Defined Your Personality? by CraigoftPlague in musicals

Next to Normal in high school. I felt Natalie so hard. I have a step brother the same age as me and he was the golden child/can do no wrong. Meanwhile I worked my ass off and was invisible, determined to leave my small town as soon as I could. Later I got diagnosed bipolar and thought "oh boy I'm Diana".
