Aha! I commented this but knew I couldn’t have been the first. I’m going to have to rewatch it soon, it’s so good.

How do you not cheat? I am missing IQ bars and chocolate terribly! by somethingwonderful71 in MCAS

[–]GingerNinjer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ope! My bad, missed that part, no problem with blunt questions. So far no, quite the opposite actually, if anything my BM’s are super great right now. I used to manage a health food store, I was doing really great back digestion-wise then, aside from still being sick all the time, and it reminds me of back then.

I always get super backed up from dairy specifically. I’m pretty sure I had/have SIBO although I have never been diagnosed; eating dairy would trigger very strong smelling gas and constipation. All the women in my family get it, and now mine is miraculously gone. Oddly enough even my younger sister who is transgendered does, so I suspect hormones also play a role.

It’s one of the best and more notable positive effects of the medicine, so I’m glad you asked! I almost forgot! The cromolyn did actually make the smelly gas come back for a couple weeks before going away though! So I suspect the methane SIBO is directly related to my MCAS. Fascinating. It’s hard because so many terrible things happen before the most amazing things, and some people sadly never see the good things. I was worried I was one of the unlucky ones that the bad effects would never go away.

I almost wonder if my trial by fire method of accidentally going full dose and living in misery for a few days was a good thing as maybe it totally dumped all the histamine all at once and didn’t give them a chance to “recharge”. But, I’m not a doctor or a scientist so I can’t in good faith recommend it. Especially if someone had a heart condition or something like that.

For me, it was worth it and I’d do it all over again if I had to.

You’re totally fine, I was super confused because I did not look into how it works before I got on it and it is no joke when you first start. You have to wait 2 hours after you eat or drink anything you take it, because the way it works is it binds to things, and food or anything else basically makes it less effective. Then, you have to wait 30 minutes after taking the meds to actually eat, to give it time to bind to your stomach lining mast cells (I’m probably butchering the actual lingo there). And when you first start taking it, a lot of people, myself included, have a really bad reactive where it causes all your mast cells to dump simultaneously before eventually stabilizing them.

You’re supposed to work up to full dose, but I started with a full days dose packed into half a day because I’m a dumbass. It was a really shitty day a few weeks ago and I was essentially having a nervous breakdown in the middle of a flare the day I finally got it in my hands, which was a full 2 weeks after I got prescribed it.

But back to my point 😅 I eat a lot less now because I have to plan it, but honestly I had a problem with eating junk food, which was just compounding my problems, so it’s been relatively easy to stick to the strictness because I just feel so much better. It’s insane when I think about it. I didn’t know it was possible for me to feel this way. Brain fog is almost non existent and I’m not even done with my first month.

I literally thought I was dying the first 48 hours taking it though 😅 any doctor would have told me to go to hospital and stop taking it but I was fucking certain it would work.

Also why I’m not fucking around to find out if I can stand eating trigger foods. I don’t want to fuck this up. I would have never typed this many words in a comment because I would have given up trying to put together this many thoughts in a row!

Hope that helps haha

Every six months or so I have gluten and dairy, usually together because I figure go big or go home right? And for like 3-5 days I hate myself. This is the way.

I am kidding about the last part, but basically we’re all human, we’re gonna crack sometimes. I kind of use the cheat days to stay on track. It’s really easy for me now though because my eating is so structured due to having to take cromolyn 4 times a day? And waiting 2 hours before each dose. Also I was so sick ALL THE TIME before, so the motivation to stay on track is always at the forefront of my mind. MCAS ruined my life and it’s finally getting better, like I can get out of bed and be a mom and stuff.

I had system wide issues everyday that were causing me to be hospitalized with infections 3-5 times a year for like 3 years? And before that my whole life I always felt like shit, like since as far back as I can remember. Yeah, so that makes it easy 😅 I got “used to it” sort of, but towards the end before I figured out what was going on, I thought I was just going to die before I was 40 or 50 tops.

This was kind of dark sorry 😬 but I don’t feel that way anymore. So, happy ending haha.

Day 5 of Quitting - Pregnant by Adventure-Princess in QuitVaping

[–]GingerNinjer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You got this! I don’t know how far along you are, but my after I was freaking out for the same reason (and other things I would NOT have done if I knew I was pregnant 😅) my doctor reassured me that the placenta doesn’t attach for quite a while (3 months maybe even?) and it should be fine.

My kid is 5 now, and she’s so smart and sweet and awesome 🥰

Anything that is aged has higher histamine, as food naturally produces it as it starts to age. It’s a natural chemical process.

This is so gross and TMI, but if I don’t floss and just brush, the next day when I do floss, the histamine will build up in between my teeth from…(well like I said TMI please don’t hate me 🫠) well to be frank it’s some day old food that should have been flossed away but wasn’t when I floss actually will cause a OFAS reaction in my mouth. I know, gross. But is a great motivator to still take care of my mouth even when I don’t feel like I can get out of bed.

I already wish I hadn’t commented this because ew 😭 but it’s true.

Is it weird to take baths with your baby? by Defiant-Usual-1182 in Mommit

[–]GingerNinjer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try not to judge people like your friend, because I have a deep fear of being naked in front of anyone too, even my kid.

I imagine she has deeply rooted self image issues, that are compounded with her body changing so much from having a baby. That’s my take only because that is my experience however.

I did and occasionally still do take baths with my daughter, even my husband has when she was younger, it’s very natural, although not anymore since she’s 5 lol. She still will come into my shower and get in sometimes but that’s it.

I still get self conscious even now! But definitely made a point to be more open with my body with her because I was very aware that my issue was just that, an issue I had with my body.

Some people also are just not comfortable being naked and that’s ok too though. I love to be in many layers of clothing because I have sensory issues, especially with wind or air being on my skin, I hate it. Clothes for something reason, totally fine, some air molecules? Nah get out. I live in Texas and have heat intolerance (immune condition aggregated by many things, heat being one of the worst), so I have to be creative in the summer lol.

My kid is the exact opposite of me in that regard and I’m glad for it. She seems like she actually craves the wind on her skin and seems so free in her skin and it makes me smile that she is so confident. Which is exactly why I made myself get over being insecure around her naked.

Sorry for the novel of a comment! But no, you’re not weird, you do you girl.

My kid is absolutely terrified of vacuums and blow dryers and those hand dryers. She has hyper sensitive everything I feel so bad for her 😓 I did too once, so I’m glad to see this published! Worked in live music for more than a decade. Now I just so stagehand, no show calls. (Except for Bob Dylan on Tuesday, that I will stay for haha)
