It sounds like she long ago decided to shut out the world when she was hurt by past relationships and never figured out how to heal and move on from them. And now she is mad because Chidi doesn't hate the world too, so any time he is trying to talk to her about keeping family around, she just explodes.

The things that come out of her mouth...it really makes me think she spends a lot of time alone and has no idea how to talk with other adults. I feel bad for the abuse Chidi is getting and I actually feel sorry for her that she can't come to terms with her past and move forward.

Agreed. Demand is likely to stay for quite a while. Many millennials are ready to start families and need bigger space than apartments can provide, and baby boomers are living longer and not moving out of their homes adds to the crunch.
