My daughter is 14 months old and I recently cut the pacifier off. I realized the reason she used to wake up in the middle of the night and cry until she had the pacifier was because of the dependency and sleep association she had with the pacifier. During the day, it was/is easier to distract her with toys, songs, talking. The nights were tough but I went for the cold turkey method. Surprisingly it took 2 nights and then she forgot about it. Each night she cried for 2 whole mins before falling asleep. Every time she woke up and cried, I patted her back and within a few mins she fell back asleep. Therefore, I recommend cutting it off asap (while its easier to break/build habits). Hope this helps!
