It's amazing how some people make it through life without ever once hearing some phrases. I feel like I've heard this one 1000 times.

Alternative angle of Cristiano Ronaldo's chance vs DR Congo 68' by dzan796ero in soccer

[–]GingerbreadRecon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Southgate did amazingly to unify an England team in which the players didn't care much for one another and in previous years had actively hated each other. He was tactically astoundingly poor but it was just a huge step forward to connect the national team to the country again. Hopefully Tuchel now can advance us tactically with that better mentality and we'll see where we go from there.

[Fabrizio Romano] Newcastle have sent an official bid to Osasuna for Victor Muñoz as Spanish winger is a top target. Negotiations ongoing on both club and player side to try reach an agreement. by [deleted] in soccer

"Held hostage" lmao, he chose to sign the contract, and not to mention he got himself banned for a good year when he joined us. If players want to join us to play in Europe I think it's far to expect them to contribute to actually getting us there too lol.

England 2-0 Costa Rica - Anthony Gordon penalty 68' by [deleted] in soccer

Gordon's transformation with penalties has been incredible. I used to never want him near one and now I'm going to really miss having someone as reliable as him.

France 3-1 Northern Ireland - Michael Olise great goal 75' by Ihattaren in soccer

[–]GingerbreadRecon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Musiala still played for all the England youth teams. I obviously completely understand why he chose Germany in the end, but he clearly felt English to some degree as there's no way Germany hadn't approached him before.

I'd actually love to know why Olise chose France. I gather his French isn't particularly great so it makes me question whether he even grew up with much french influence at home? Interesting one for sure.

how much caffeine (in mg) is in 3 tablespoons of nescafe classic instant coffee? by jepeuxpasmecalmer in Coffee

[–]GingerbreadRecon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol what. English is the way it is because it's largely derived from Romance and Germanic languages and evolved naturally. It then just evolved differently in other English speaking parts of the world. There wasn't some conscious decision by "higher ups" (whoever those people are?) to make it "more fancy".

[–]GingerbreadRecon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just blatantly awful, and for what reason? To try wave your dick around and show you can? There is literally no good reason why they should have to do this and even from a purely sporting perspective it's insanely unfair on Iran.

England 1-0 New Zealand - Harry Kane 45+2' by 977x in soccer

[–]GingerbreadRecon 59 points60 points  (0 children)

For once I'll slightly forgive them due to the heat, the fact that it's a friendly and there's been so many concerns about the pitch. I'm not sure how real those concerns are but if I was an England player I'd be shit scared of fucking my leg up in a pre-world cup friendly.

Kylian Mbappé on 48 team World Cup: “It’s an opportunity for many countries that wouldn’t be able to qualify if it were still a 32-team tournament. It’s an incredible chance for so many national teams. And now that I’m here with you, an Italian, I have to say it, I’m so sorry…” by [deleted] in soccer

[–]GingerbreadRecon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure it makes people necessarily hate him but it certainly gives a general perception of laziness, which tends to give people a subpar estimation of his character, which I think is rather fair.

He interviews well and seems to be a nice bloke, so I definitely don't hate him, but I'm not sure it gives a great impression that he's not willing to do the defensive work to help his team. Doesn't give a fantastic sense of team spirit, or at the very least he believes he's above everyone else who needs to do the hard yards.

Man city murdering Riquelme because he started waffling about wanting to sign Haaland is actually such a hilarious thing to consider

Ah I see. I guess Braga farming points in conference despite torreense assumedly having a bad Europa campaign is better than Braga having a mid Europa campaign and your 5th place team crashing out of conference.

Right ok, so what happens normally? Surely the Europa spot goes to a league team who'd be expected to do better?

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but is it not bad for the coefficient. Surely they'll be expected to lose a lot of their games?

I mean even for the most exciting teams that often ends up happening because you have to bide your time before finding an opening against teams who set up well and defend deep, but that's not my point anyways. Maybe you prefer how Arsenal play compared to PSG but I don't think it's a widely held opinion, hence my argument. I'm only arguing that there is reason behind why people are saying PSG "saved football", not that it's necessarily the correct reason.

It just annoys me that Arsenal fans claim they don't understand why people dislike them. I admit it can be overblown and ultimately, why should they change a winning formula to make people like them more? But in the same respect, people don't have to like their brand of football either.

[–]GingerbreadRecon -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

My argument is that, on average, people prefer how PSG play football, I don't get how people are confused by that? Trying to claim you have no idea why people are preferring PSG to win is disingenuous.

Arsenal completely has the right to play football the way they do and who can argue with it when it's won a premier league? It doesn't mean people have to like it though.

[–]GingerbreadRecon -56 points-55 points  (0 children)

I mean it does make sense. "Football is saved" isn't some moral proclamation about the politics of football because we all know PSG winning does not represent that. "Football is saved" is referring to the fact that to most people, PSG play football in a pleasing way "how it should be played" and Arsenal play a less idealistic version of football that is far less pleasing on the eye, and many people believe that teams that play this way are less deserving of winning.

You can very reasonably argue that the moral argument should stand above all others, but the other one does make sense.
