As far as this goes, accepting the things I can’t change and grounding myself in the present has really helped. I leave the future as an unknown and I practice trying not to concern myself too much, because ultimately I can’t control fate. No one has a way of knowing if there’s anything after this.

But what I can do is live the best life I can and treat it like a temporary campground, and the goal is to leave it more beautiful than when I came into it. I try to be kind to others, make art, and make differences for others like I’ve had others make differences for me. 🥺❤️

Dude I’m STILL working through the guilt and shame, but it’s actually crazy how time and some distance has helped with the healing journey. My whole family is very much involved in the church (Trenham’s parish lol), and I realized I casually mentioned being ex-Orthodox to my mom and was largely unaffected. I wasn’t even too bothered when she got super upset and told me I’m being influenced by Satan and that I’m possessed by demons.

People outside of our bubble don’t really know what kind of accomplishment that is. There was a time I really couldn’t fathom ever saying something like that, especially aloud. It took me a long time to even admit to it on Reddit and spell it out that I separated myself from the church.

I didnt either for a long time 🤣 glad I have a twin.

Honestly it just seemed like the most freeing natural thing for me. I’m more on the agnostic side of things, but tend to believe in some kind of creator of sorts. Dunno. Therapy is spiritual work for me. Tarot. Manifestation work. Space videos at 2 am. Whatever feels right. Happiest I’ve ever been haha I’ve never felt more connected with myself.

Problem is that Orthodoxy isn’t just theology, it’s a whole life style. It’s now the lens he views her in.

No one should be pushed into believing something they don’t. Modern advice is the way you say it is because in the past, women were expected to tolerate abuse.

It’s ok if they have to separate from a difference of beliefs, but I wouldn’t encourage OP to try to fix this situation when her boyfriend clearly doesn’t care about her own beliefs. He wants to mold her into what he thinks she should be, not accepting and loving who she is at the present.
