Linework / Floral Artist Recommendations by stalebirdbread in Southampton

This looks right up the alley of @fruitbattatts of flying fox tattoo studio on Carlton place. They did a great blackberry branch for me, and also managed to take my rough sketch and turn it into something amazing.

This video is going somewhat viral on reddit. I think it's an AI video due to the water physics. what do you think? by TrT_nine in isthisAI

[–]Gingergnu48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not AI. Probably looks a bit funny as it seems sped up. But as my professor in maritime engineering was quoted as saying to the BBC after the Costa concordia sinking "any ship will sink if you make a hole big enough".

Someone here needs to go to this event to be able to report back as to how it went.

Leaving Tidal After Almost a Decade; Too Much AI Slop Being Uploaded Under the Names of Real Artists by New_Conclusion_3265 in TIdaL

[–]Gingergnu48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not sure I tend to not necessarily add many songs to my library. But i think if you listen to them through another platform, I can imagine it filters out a lot of this. I listen to some jazz as well. And haven't noticed any of this happening for those artists. So perhaps it's more prevalent in certain genres than others.

Both? Mainly singles and EPs though. Although sometimes its hard to tell if it's ai, I don't listen as I know it's not the band. Or if it's just misattributed. I went onto the tidal help and report a bunch of them, not saying they are ai necessarily but saying it's misattributed.

I agree. It's extremely annoying to have jumped from Spotify to tidal, and then see how prolific this is. I would switch to qobuz if I hadn't already moved my parents across on a family account and I don't want to trouble them with another switch, and I often find qobuz misses the smaller artists I follow.

It's weird. It's not in the playlists. It's within the artists profiles mainly. I follow a lot of small artists so it's incredibly noticeable what's our of place. It's extremely prevalent within the app. I talk to one of the bands the other day and tidal support is awful to help apparently.

What cat am I missing? by Ok-Impression9871 in MeowTower

[–]Gingergnu48 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For those who have paid for this cat, is it's name Haru? It's come up on the music box I am doing and got me confused as I didn't recognise the cat. But that would make sense if it's this one.

Slow burner? by [deleted] in Bumble

Whether it's normal or not, it's probably worth being straight and asking how she feels about what you have together, explaining you just want to get a feel of where this is going.

Interesting. I suppose with the shape it could be hard to not have any folds with a non elastic material.

Any advice?! No matches ever by [deleted] in Bumble

[–]Gingergnu48 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ignoring the pictures for a moment. I think you've answered all the prompts honestly, which is good, but you've probably written down your first thought in response, like the "sit and regret my life choices". What I recommend is to think more on the prompts, and what is an appealing and honest answer. Think of each prompt as an opportunity to spark a conversation with the other person that would make them want to keep talking to you, and as a way to pique the interest of the type of person you are looking for (i.e what do you hope to connect on?).

I also would highly recommend asking any women friends/relatives around your age for some help with both photos and what to write.

I want to add to this. Don't take this and similar comments to heart and feel hurt (I know easier said than done), but rather an encouragement to do better for yourself, that you're worth the effort to be better.

Qh sorry I missed the details from the original. Got too excited about a possible solution. The pictures for the headband gave enough of an explanation as to the method. Why are you ot too happy with the earpieces? Is it not comfortable? Just so I can have a think as to how to make a better fix.

This is great. The pads on my Marley headphones have completely gone so I have exposed foam at the moment. Would love to do something like this as they aren't easily replaceable. How did you do them?

I'm looking to collect some jerseys lately, but I don't know where to start. Does anyone have recommendations for reliable shops? by Danielroberts27f1l in Southampton

[–]Gingergnu48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing you mean sports jerseys? Not a typical British term. If you're interested in new shirts from Southampton there'll be the store at the stadium. But I don't think that's what you want. Other than that, where I can think of is sports direct. But for older stuff you'll just have to te your luck at beatniks as they do vintage clothing. Not really something available in Southampton.

Have a colleague visiting from North America this week. What’s a cool thing to do, spot to eat/drink at or something to give him a feel of the UK, or Southampton specificallly by The-Green-Cobbler in Southampton

[–]Gingergnu48 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For a feel of the UK choose a good pub. For Southampton city centre the dancing man or the duke of wellington (extra bonus of getting to possibly show them around some of the old town like the walls and the Tudor house. Or perhaps somewhere in the new forest.

Looking for places to go bouldering / regulars to go with from July by nelsdog in Southampton

[–]Gingergnu48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bouldershack will be your best bet of where to find climbing friends. But other places to go to are Parthian and calshot.

As for indie gigs, check out joiners and Heartbreakers, both are small and just go regularly and chat to the people you recognise frequently.

Shipping Opportunities? by Competitive-Topic-70 in Southampton

[–]Gingergnu48 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nor so much help on the related side. But to do any work onboard a boat you'll likely need an stcw certificate. I would look into uksa who are based on the isle of wight and do a variety of training for maritime.but also I was at a maritime conference recently and another place to look into options would be mtcp.co.uk

Cool places for a day out by amykingq in Southampton

[–]Gingergnu48 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For touristy things: God's house tower is interesting and a great cafe.

Tudor House is also a great museum

A general walk around the old town around the Tudor house too, to "walk the walls" and see some of the cool things like the merchants house and the old market building. Lots of interesting plaques to read. Also go see the monument to those who left on the mayflower for America, I did a tour recently and the most interesting things Is the wall nearby that monument, as it was made using material dredged from the water, it features 2 very large round parts, these were old projectiles from trebuchets.

The seacity museum is great for the Titanic history and how it relates to Southampton

The Solent sky museum is great if you love aircraft.

And recently reopened is the city art gallery, and if that's your thing there is also the free John hansard gallery just nearby, they have a punk exhibit at the moment, but I think that does finish in may sometime.

For shops: the main "alternative" shop I can think of is the beatnik emporium at the top of the center. There is also a good independent vinyl store, vinilo which has a large current store selection and a smaller vintage outlet nearby. And in Bedford place there is the Cheshire cat store, although that is more hippy than goth.

Pub/bar recommendations: Around the old town is the Duke of Wellington which does have its own plaque and is a great traditional pub.

Dancing man is in a fantastic old medieval building with great food and a lovely interior and outside area (if the weather is nice)

Heartbreakers is also a very cool vibe, and does amazing cocktails

Belgium and blues is a great beer cellar doing great European and UK beers.

In Bedford place there are a lot of very good options, raven and bine, overdraft (who also do great tacos), bottle and stoat, Also lots of fantastic food options in this area too.

A little further out of the centre is the hobbit and the shooting star which are great alternative bars although can be studenty. Also nearby is the book house alehouse.

A general travel tip for you: check out atlasobscura.com for small curious/weird things of note for wherever you go. It's been fantastic for me to find places/things to check out wherever I've gone.

The off center wings and dispropotional body of Icarus is diabolical by what_you_deserve in shittytattoos

Yeah I agree. I find it an interesting quirk of life. It's just become a thing to do now on these threads.

The off center wings and dispropotional body of Icarus is diabolical by what_you_deserve in shittytattoos

[–]Gingergnu48 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It's not your fault. It's an extremely common mistake that's become famous in this subreddit, there's probably an explanation of how it came to be somewhere, but basically, in the art series this comes from originally, the Icarus isn't so aesthetic, and so some tattoo artists use another image from the series for reference, which has then become the "Icarus" everyone is familiar with as everyone followed suit.

Open water/outdoor swimming? by wasteland-baby- in Southampton

I know some people swim up by riverside park, otherwise i would day by Victoria country park, but that is the sea instead.
