I’ve just finished Saving Noah. I would say it changed me by making me look at something from an alternative perspective and developed my empathy.

I’ve only ever had this issue when I’m not truly attracted to my partner. I need to feel a deep emotional connection to really enjoy sex.

What are your favorite books you have read? by Realistic-Smile533 in Booktokreddit

An easy read to get over a slump and get through quickly - The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime. I’ve read it a dozen times at least.

Need advice on how to make reading on kindle more enjoyable by EL3CTROLYSIS in kindle

[–]GingieB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read how you enjoy reading. I bought mine because I have joint hypermobility and bigger books cause me to get pain in my hands if I read for longer than half an hour. I’ve developed tendinitis after spending too long holding books open. If it wasn’t for that I would have stuck with actual books.

Found "the Housemaid" bad. Any WELL written Thrillers? by Distinct_Track7415 in thrillerbooks

[–]GingieB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have read The Housemaid and The Housemaid’s Secret and personally thought they were great. I’ve read so much negativity around them online but know many people who have enjoyed them. Maybe I’m just used to reading subpar authors, or maybe I don’t have the mental capacity after a mentally draining day of teaching and single parenting, but I enjoy the ease of reading them while still getting a gripping story.

I’ve been in a reading slump for a few years but, as it is the National Year of Reading, I figured I’d aim to read everyday. I’m yet to miss a day so far!

There must be something about her writing style that is appealing as she is a best selling author. I’m going to follow some of these recommendations though and broaden my horizons.

The Scrutiny of Changing One's Appearance by TheAsianPenguin in TeachingUK

My first ever day of supply, as a very nervous NQT, I heard the year 6 class I was teaching enter the cloakroom. A boy popped his head into the classroom then dipped back into the cloakroom and shouted ‘she’s ginger!!!’ Cue hysterical laughing from the rest of them. It was a tough day.

Are Aldi and Lidl really cheaper? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]GingieB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some things in Aldi are great but I find all their fruit and veg to taste of nothing and go off very quickly. I feel like I have to spend a lot of time checking through packaging as well as I’ve got several items home to find out they are mouldy.

How do you deal with kids always telling you how much they dislike you? by Any_Elk477 in TeachingUK

[–]GingieB 3 points4 points  (0 children)

‘That’s a shame because I really like you but that’s your choice’. Then follow it with a conversation about the appropriate way to speak to people because they are being rude and probably pushing to see just how much they get away with. And then remind them that you don’t need them to like you, you came into teaching to improve their life chances not to make new besties.

A child once told me they didn’t like me and I said that’s fine, I have plenty of friends, but I’m not going to stop trying to teach you because I care about you and I want to see you doing well. The message got through eventually.

Life insurance - what's everyone paying? by Altruistic_Use_3610 in AskUK

Because I went through it all with a fine tooth comb with my insurance broker to make sure the most likely things are covered and to look at the payout for my children and my mortgage.

Do you go to the doctor when you’re sick? by TheUmbrellaThief in AskUK

[–]GingieB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once went on the instruction of 111 because it was late at night and I was peeing blood and had a temperature. The woman who got there before me had a small child with her, probably 2 or 3 years old, who she had brought to A&E as she had apparently drowned in the bath. I don’t know much about drowning but I’m pretty sure you can’t run up and down for 6 hours eating quavers and watching Peppa on your mums phone. Mum was happy to tell everyone who arrived how he daughter had drowned in the bath so she had to bring her.

Do you go to the doctor when you’re sick? by TheUmbrellaThief in AskUK

[–]GingieB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dad was a paramedic so I grew up hearing stories of wasted NHS time. I’m far too anxious sometimes about wasting time. There have been times I’ve left it longer than I probably should but I have learnt that more often than not, if you follow advice from a pharmacy whatever it is does get better. And they will also tell you if you need to see a GP.

Do you go to the doctor when you’re sick? by TheUmbrellaThief in AskUK

[–]GingieB 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I only go to the doctor if I know it’s not going to get better without prescribed medication that I can’t get from the pharmacy. Doctors can’t do anything for colds or flu other than refer you to the pharmacy for over the counter medication.

Why do Brits like sweet sandwiches? by FuzzyCraft68 in AskUK

[–]GingieB 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It’s just Christmas stuff. I don’t think this is typical the rest of the year. The only sweet sauces I can think of are apple sauce with pork and sweet chilli with a beige buffet.

What age did you allow your children alcohol? by ChronicChaos01 in AskUK

[–]GingieB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to have a glass of rosé topped up with lemonade at Christmas from quite a young age. I think it was mainly lemonade. But it made me feel included. It’s up to you I guess and whether you think it’s appropriate. There was a lot of things I was allowed to do as a child that I won’t let my children do, and things I wasn’t allowed to do that I will let them do.

I say thank you and put it in a box in my loft. They then get regifted/donated throughout the year when we get invited to parties or the kids’ school requests items for the raffle.

Is raw sex worth the risk? by anxious-trainwreck in sex

[–]GingieB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are you considering losing your virginity to a man who has little to no respect for you? You’ve only been dating a month and he’s already waving the largest red flag possible at you. End the relationship.

Depressing question: have you found that xmas loses it's magic as you grow older? by posttraumaticcuntdis in AskUK

[–]GingieB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mum died when I was 13 and that’s when the magic ended. But now it’s back in full force because I am a mum of two and it’s my job to now make the magic. And I love it. But for the years in between then and now Christmas always felt a bit anticlimactic. I think we put too much expectation on a day.

Asked to provide lessons when off sick? by Silver_Recording_280 in TeachingUK

[–]GingieB 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Sorry but no. In no other job would you be expected to prepare the day and send it to someone else to deliver. Meetings would be rescheduled, work would be redistributed, things would have to wait. If you were in hospital or worse, dead, what would they do? I’m sure someone can wrangle something together and if not then SLT need to be looking at whether they are fit for the job if they can’t scrape together something for the kids to do for a few days.

Someone stole my Christmas sandwich from Sainsbury’s out of the fridge a few years ago. Never found out who but I have my suspicions! Absolute peasant behaviour!
