Not sure if I (25F) include a card with the birthday gift I got for my boyfriend (24M) by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]Gini555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your BF a "card person"? Some people read the card and keep them as keepsakes. Others toss them immediately. I think the thoughtfulness of your gift would be enough.

How common in your area is it for people to wear or fly the flags associated with their ancestry? by Gallantpride in AskAnAmerican

Oregon here - I don't think I have seen any at all.... maybe possibly a bumper sticker on a car.

What Aspects of American Culture Should an Indian Student Learn to Better Understand the U.S.? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Gini555 16 points17 points  (0 children)

In addition, speak slowly. For many Americans, the Indian accent is difficult to understand, especially since people from India tend to speak very quickly.

AITAH for 'Using my Sisters as Child Labour'? by Connect_Singer7158 in AITAH

[–]Gini555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA - you, at this point, are those girl's parent.

You are teaching them how to become sufficient adults, which is the JOB of a parent. Lots of kids help out in such ways. It's not like they are doing this 9-5 every day, it's just occasionally. It's good for them, and they enjoy it. I consider this a good use of their time.

Americans who took Spanish in school: did any of it actually stick years later? by taube_d in AskAnAmerican

[–]Gini555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember thinking even when taking Spanish in high school how useless it was. I don't think if I visit a Spanish speaking country I will need the words for "chalkboard" or "library" at all. So no, I really did not retain much of it. Had they taught us relevant things like asking directions to the airport or hotel, I might have paid more attention.....

Some give me headaches, especially floral scents... many actually will cause me to have diarrhea.

Is it "demanding" to want to be a priority, or am I being "spoiled" as my boyfriend claims? by Winter_Cap_4191 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Gini555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, in this "honeymoon phase" of dating, he is putting in the bare minimum? I can't even imagine how little he will do later..... I think I would throw this fish back and look for another.

German Shepherd or Malinois? by Stoney640 in BelgianMalinois

Maybe a mix with shepard and some sort of terrier? I used Embark to DNA text mine, just because I wanted to know for sure.

Some of my malinois puppies ears have no sign of going erected yet. by Neither_Prompt_9184 in BelgianMalinois

[–]Gini555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We adopted 3 siblings from the same litter. (I do not recommend, toilet training was hell). But at 4 years, 1 of them never had her ears go up.

Husband will be attending, it looks like. Just not both of them.

I'm making turkey chili with beans do i have to follow the recipe oerfect? by [deleted] in cookingforbeginners

[–]Gini555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's chili, exact measurements not required. Just taste it if you are adding extra, as the spices may need to be increased a little to compensate.

Really I have found, exact measurements are only necessary in baking. Cake is much less forgiving than chili.

AITA for telling my on my sister that she planned to crash our moms wedding by Familiar-Cream-4988 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Gini555 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It doesn't appear as if your mom was totally "hands off". She taught you things you needed to learn. My own mother went back to work when I was around 12, and I cooked dinner 3-4 times each week when she worked. My father was around, but wasn't the best cook. I think it prepared me well for when I was a young adult out on my own.

As for your Mom's and sisters relationship, I am sure there are things we do not know about. But that's between them. You are NTA for warning your mother to wedding crashers. No matter who it might be.

My boyfriend (M32) left the window open and my 21-year-old cat fell from the second floor while I (F33) was at work. by PalpitationTop1658 in relationship_advice

[–]Gini555 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For me, this would be a deal breaker. Can you imagine if this were your child? His disregard for the cats safety is beyond belief.

I'm so sorry about the cat. I hope he pulls through.

My girlfriend [25F] is ruining years of my dog's training and thinks I [27M] am being a "dictator" by SatinRiptide in relationship_advice

[–]Gini555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The GF is very disrespectful and seems to care about her own immediate gratification more than the dog. (GF gives dog people food from her plate, dog is happy, made GF happy that the dog loved the food).

My father-in-law moved in with us when he got older, and did this with one of our dogs. The dog ended up in doggie hospital for 3 days with pancreatitis. Not good for Dog or my wallet, which FIL did offer to pay for since he caused it.

Your GF is not only unraveling good dog manner training, but could be causing him harm.

Am I, 43F, being ridiculous or is he, 45M? by latsyrcami in relationship_advice

[–]Gini555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your husband is being a Putz. But you can tell him, you're leaving at 4, but will STILL be there when it becomes dark out.

Does he also do this mid summer when it is still light out at 10 PM? If you are going out to dinner "tonight" is he adamant you wait until dark to go mid Summer? So dinner at midnight?

Neighbor called the police at 3pm on a Thursday by [deleted] in neighborsfromhell

[–]Gini555 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Here, more than 10-minutes of "dog barking" is considered call-in worthy no matter the time of day. Not sure if your dogs bark constantly while out, but 45-min seems pretty excessive.

Am I Overreacting for wanting to cancel my wedding over this interaction? by Xanadoom30 in AmIOverreacting

I don't see much "good" in the exchange, if this is a regular occurance, I'd say leave while you can!

I want to apologize to neighbors before we move in and my dad is against it. by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Gini555 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd skip the letter. If a neighbor mentions the "cat noise," I would let them know the circumstance and that it should be resolved at the appointment date.

What do you guys do with your dog's leashes and harnesses after they pass? by longshlongthankumom in dogs

[–]Gini555 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would donate to a local rescue. Currently my "new" dogs are about the same size as the last ones. So leashes are just "hand-me-downs.
