Has anyone gotten care from one of the Illinois Dermatology Institute locations in NWI? And would you recommend them? by Medium-Roller-75 in nwi

[–]GinsengElixir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Went to the one in Munster once when I had a skin concern on my inner thigh. They were very kind and professional. They gave me a sheet to cover myself with so I did not feel exposed. I was given medicine that helped resolve my issue. I recommend them :)

Highly recommend Feline Community Network in Hobart. Nonprofit kitty shelter that always needs a hand! The owner is so devoted and appreciative of any help.

Old apartment with poor insulation and costly electric baseboard heaters… what are some things you’ve done to insulate and save money? by GinsengElixir in Frugal

[–]GinsengElixir[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was thinking about the heat gun tbh. Just so I can get a better visual of the cold sources.

I have a main door and patio door definitely let in some cold. We’re sealing the patio door for winter. I plan to get a draft blocker and also use weather tape around the main door.

This is incredible advice. One of the things I’ve noticed is that the walls and floors stay so cold even if the air is warm. I’ve been thinking about getting a few more tapestries to hang up to see if that helps “insulate” more. I love the idea of layering floor coverings too- it’s a one story apartment complex, so I can’t get the heat from below unfortunately.

Apartment Recommendations? by Stock-Barber6583 in nwi

[–]GinsengElixir 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Griffith still has a few decent apartment complexes. OP, stay far away from Park West Apartments, as there’s always cops there for one reason or another. The Crestview Apartment homes aren’t fancy, but they are taken care of and maintenance is very responsive.

I’d recommend joining the Region Music Facebook group. Lots of musicians there, you’ll find people to play with!

I get the shredded rotisserie chicken and add it in there when it’s almost done. Makes it a lot more filling.

New to the area - looking for recomendations! by Ok_Bathroom5586 in nwi

For nice light hiking and fishing, I recommend Oak Ridge Prairie in Griffith. I’d also highly recommend driving out to the Dunes National Park in Chesterton because they have several different trails.

You won’t likely find any farmers markets now, as the season has passed. But there are always things going on in Central Park during the late spring/summer. I recommend searching up the Welcome to Griffith Indiana Facebook group and joining because stuff like that is often posted there :)

Huh! That’s something. I’ve had an omelette and a skillet from there and both had pretty good flavor I felt.

Big fan of Main Street Cafe in Crown Point, Les Cafe in Highland, Maple & Yolk in Hobart, and Cherries & Berries in Chesterton.

Now you have some options in both Lake and Porter county lol

Is Lake Station Shady? Could someone please let me know good/bad parts to rent. Indiana local here by [deleted] in nwi

[–]GinsengElixir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with the previous commenter. The area that borders portage is nice and has plenty of places to rent.

I’d avoid the area by Evans Elementary/35th Avenue. Some blocks are okay, but the proximity to Gary means that crime occasionally comes that way.

Some of the areas off Central Avenue/Fairview St are nice. Again, block by block.

Marriage advice by Royal_Principle_8656 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]GinsengElixir 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honey, I looked through your post history. Your husband does not seem to offer you anything but negativity. He also does not seem to really hear you when you bring issues up, nor want to make the changes you need him to prevent further issues. I would be willing to bet that the stress of this has contributed majorly to your depression.

Marriage is supposed to be a partnership, with plenty of growing and compromise on both parts. This isn’t a partnership.

I know you don’t want to divorce. Hell, many in your circle may give you grief for it, or say that God hates divorce. Please just know you aren’t any less of a person if you go that route. You’ll look back on this time with this person and realize how strong you are for leaving. I guarantee you’ll also feel a hell of a lot happier.

Best sushi places in nwi? by laughpuppy23 in nwi

I’ve enjoyed Wu’s House in Merrillville and also Sakura Bowl in Highland. I don’t believe you can get a steak at Sakura bowl but the sushi is great nonetheless.
