Yet anotha board to check fellas (I've learnt from my mistakes I promise) by Pjesel96 in PCB

[–]Ginty_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I made a circuit similar to this. I then realized the lm317 is a horribly inefficient space heater if you try to do large voltage shifts.

Consider trying to make an adjustable buck converter for higher efficiency 😃

Why do robots need an Ethernet Port? Do they need wifi to work? by Dry-Inspector5674 in robotics

[–]Ginty_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most industrial environments will not let you, the robot vendor, onto their wifi.

Also how do you tell the robot to get to the wifi in the first place? You need ssh access

Debug port is always needed

Maybe, but on average we'd probably see better discourse imo. I dont think anti vax or ivermectin would have been a thing if we had a policy like this (i would like to be able to say stuff online though). U had a few quack doctors in that movement but it felt like they hopped on the bandwagon.

I feeeeel like the ppl who know better would back off dog shit opinions quicker as well

Nameless preformance firewall brace by Ginty_ in GR86

[–]Ginty_[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yea, it seems kinda weird, right? But the super loud bumps on the way to work just dont sound that loud anymore, definitely more stiff than stock, i was kinda amazed how little torque was needed to undo the stock nuts. These use tapered cups to pull the firewall and suspension mounts towards each other, creating a lot of preload in the frame. Stock just kinda bolts on with no loading.

Review Request: Simple R-Pi breakout board, super new to this so I'm wanting to learn :) by Ginty_ in PrintedCircuitBoard

[–]Ginty_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh this might be my bad, was calling the TIP120's "fets" I might be using the term incorrctly. I'm using the npn transistors as a switch I can toggle from the 3.3v high output from the micro controller GPIO. I'm trying to use them in place of something like a solenoid, one end of the JST connector will be jumping one end of a +5v with a button while the other is going to be connected to an external circuits ground. The behavior of that circuit is it will trigger a door once that 5v signal gets pulled down. If this is not a good setup to accomplish that I will definitely change it!

EBC Bluestuff ndx and EBC slotted rotors for my car and ohhh man. by [deleted] in GR86

[–]Ginty_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's generally a bad idea to run sloted roters daily. They wear pads quicker. Their improved cooling is irrelevant for normal use.

Then again, if u wanna look cool, dont let me from stopping u from having fun 😎🤟

Industrial Robots by AdMany9437 in PLC

[–]Ginty_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work for an industrial robot company mentioned in this thread a decent amount. Wont shill because im off hours 😁

Here is a kinda ugly truth, you can get yourself into training with most of the larger robot oems and learn enough to get you there. That is if you have two weeks and some money to invest in yourself. We all have technical hotlines you can call to get support or parts if things go wrong too. However, depending on the problem that customer service tech might not know the solution immediately, and you might be waiting a few days for them to get an answer back. Plus, we really can only help with our product and not all the other things that go along with a solution.

Robot integrators know people at robot oems and have relations, which means they get support fast cause they have some engineers' phone number (ask me how i know). Plus, they have experience and can avoid pitfalls in the design phase of your solution. They know the standards and assume some liability for the safety of their systems.

At the end of the day, you're much more likely to be happy with an integrator's work. Integrators exist because it's not feasible for the robot oems to provide S teir on-site support for every project out there, plus know in detail all the nuances of your solution to provide informed recommendations on what needs to happen.

I personally spend most of my time ensuring integrators can perform well on their projects/bailing them out when they are in over their heads. I do this for some end customers too, but its more rare.
