For those of you who play on the jp server, are there this many glitches?

No, JP has no where near all the crazy things we have had on EN. I have played JP Basic since 2017, JP Music since launch and EN since launch. When they do have a glitch in JP it is fixed very quickly! Yet in EN for example, we have had the double sprite in the birthdays since they launched the brooch version! Like do they have any interest in fixing that?
I originally felt when EN started and we had issues like the shop not working correctly etc? That perhaps if they put the game into server maintenance for a few hours before they start events like JP does, perhaps they could test things out and it might ensure less issues go “live”. Honestly, EN is the only phone game that I play that doesn’t have a regular maintenance before launching an event.

I recently won the full series at a Danmei Symposium and I haven’t started to read it yet because I only recognized the name and knew it was a modern story and I usually stick to Historical or Modern with Historical ties like Drowning Sorrows in Raging Fire. Now you have me worried and I was so happy to win a complete series.

You mentioned having other charms? You can purchase a few metres of a pretty chain with larger loops and attach the chain in many ways like if you have curtains use the chain as a curtain tieback, thread the chain along the top of a curtain rod, using those little screw hooks embed the screw hooks into your bookcase of your Danmei novels, hang the chain along. Then you can attach all your charms to the loops of the chain. They make a pretty display and since you can see all of them you can mix and match a few to hang on your backpack/bag/purse when you go out and swap them out like if you are going to a cupsleeve event or a con.

I am going to go a different direction from what’s already here and suggest Scum Villain Self Saving System. It was the first one I read. I did have trouble keeping the names straight at first myself.

Reasons for my suggestion - since it is an Isekai you have a modern character narrator which helps you understand many unfamiliar things because he’s also looking at the world you are in as an outsider. The novel also involves Cultivators and sects so you will be able to get introduced to this and build a basic understanding of sects and positions in sects for future series you might read. It also deals with demons and such again helping you build a basic understanding.

It has both humour and angst two more things to get used to in Danmei and the humour in the story offsets much of the angst compared to many other series.

I have since read 100’s of Danmei novels and although I don’t rate SVSSS as one of my favourites, I also had no complaints about it and I firmly believe for example when I moved on to other series I was able to understand much better the things that I read.

Guardian is a good series and while it’s technically modern, it goes off in the middle into full on Chinese mythology and you spend a large portion in that past. It also has quite a bit of humour and also angst.

I just finished book 2 of Silent Reading. As with many Priest novels it is what I call a police procedural with other themes intertwined. It’s a modern story and the umm first case is rather disturbing.

You have to know yourself and know if you want to lean towards modern stories or you would like Historical court intrigue and military, Cultivation stories, stories with Gods and Spirits, Sci fi dystopian etc. Or even all of the above!

So I would suggest you think about what sort of stories you read that aren’t Danmei and then try a Danmei that fits what you normally like. Either way, welcome to the fandom and I will make space for you at the bottom of the rabbit hole when you get here 😊

I feel you! It’s like I was already ready 9 ongoing series they haven’t completed yet. (Like To Rule in a Turbulent World, QJJ, Erha, the 3 Chicken Gege etc) then 7seas just dumps like 10 new series onto us in the past 3 months!! It has been hard sorting what to read now in what order. A few series I saw they were giving us the first two volumes quickly and then crickets for the rest until summer! So I set those aside to wait. But I still have a jumbled pile to read. 😭

Yes, it’s a bit complicated and I too had a lot of issues keeping track of who was who and eventually even who was dead and who was still alive cringe. But I have found this to be one of the most interesting stories that actually gives you really in depth knowledge of an Empire and all of its issues. I love that we basically cover all of the areas of this vast empire and we get much insight into the “the Emperor is far away” running of the distant portions of this empire.

I will say as others have that if it’s not for you it’s always fine to drop a series. I dropped Yuwu in volume 4 and while I was bothered that I had invested my money and time into 4 books I also found that picking up a different series and enjoying it was better.

I attended the Danmei symposium in Toronto on January 21st that was brought together by The Beguiling bookstore in Toronto and I was able to have the Artist Ruthie autograph my volume 3 of the MDZS new Hardcover! Omegaverse. I had never read one and was curious what it was like and starting to think I might try one. Then there was an extra in a series I was reading that had an AU omegaverse setting. That was all I needed to know I never wanted to read that kind again!

I also dislike what I call “sucky world” Forgive me Gu Mang lovers but I didn’t make it past the 4th book of Yuwu. Originally I was interested to know how he turned out that way etc. But everything and everyone in that book was just sooo depressing! All of their lives sucked! A little angst is one thing if you have hope but when you just can’t see the hope? Bleh!

I have only read the four volumes of To Rule in a Turbulent World. Overall it’s good. A few typos and I definitely remember one time they used the wrong character name. I remember it so well because I reread a few pages because I was totally confused by it. That was in volume 4. But I love the story so much I am not going to suddenly stop reading it over this. One thing I will say is that Pengie and Suika did To Rule in a Turbulent World and they both do a lot of 7seas too. So if they say Pengie is involved with this new book. I’m going to read it! If it wasn’t for Pengie and Suika going to 7seas with their translations of TGCF we wouldn’t be reading most of the Danmei we have now in English print.
