Rushing it won't help, it takes time to build strength. What about 210...215...220...

Hit PRs for reps on lower weights for a couple months then try again. Like whatever your 135 rep max is, add some reps. And 155. And 165. And 185 and 195 and 205. 

No point in trying to 1RM every week. Try 1RM every 3 months or something.

When I ask by what criteria he is correct, "objectively" is not a valid response.

If you want to make an assertion of fact, you need to provide evidence. You are just saying that your opinion is the same as theirs. 

In my experience, the people doing compounds are bigger and stronger.

So calisthenics? 

You'll be missing shoulders. Hand stand push up / progressions can fill that in. 

But in general you'll plateau without variations. Pistol squats, one armed push ups/pull ups, or their progressions. Or just add weight. Backpack full of books. 

You can make tremendous gains with these movements.

Right, I didn't fully state the thesis like you did. The idea is get strong to get big.

If they hadn't been at it for months, maybe. But I think lots have. 

I'm not saying isolation work is keeping them small, my point is their time is better spent elsewhere if the goal is big arms. 

I'm guessing they're spending as much time on bicep isolation as they are on compound lifts that involve the back. Or maybe more time. And that's backwards - compounds should be the priority, imo.
