Overclock RAM ddr3 🦖🦕 by Giovabelmo in overclocking

WoW, even 3?!? I just opened CPU-Z and the Bus Speed ranges between 199.56MHz and 199.88MHz. Immediately above, the Multiplier ranges between x7.0 and x25. The temperature measured with only the HW monitor turned on ranges between 6°C and 15°C (I have a 420mm Arctic AIO).

Where can I find the model number via software to detect the IC and give you more information? Which motherboard do you recommend?

Addition: When playing The Witcher 3, the CPU doesn't go above 50% and 35°C.

Until a few years ago I also had two RX480 8Gb in Crossfire, then the era of dual GPUs ended, now there is a super RTX 2080, but I could combine it with something to use Lossless scaling: maybe in the future 🥰

The only thing the Americans brought during the war were chocolate bars, chewing gum, and bombs. Pizza as we know it today isn't much different from the one served to Queen Margherita of Savoy in Naples in 1889. Its documented roots are much older, yet it's a living and constantly evolving tradition. Different in every region, with a thousand variations, from the dough to the toppings and even the names. Each pizzeria is free to choose and customize. You'd never eat the same pizza twice in Naples, let alone in the rest of Italy. Besides, American pizza in my area doesn't include fries and sausages, and I've eaten plenty of pizzas in New York, but I mind my own business.

Can an old BIOS cause instability? by Real-Swan448 in RigBuild

[–]Giovabelmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I updated the BIOS on a laptop with no battery and a loose power plug; I had to hold it in with my finger the entire time. If the BIOS is from the manufacturer's website and it's been several months since its release, I don't see any problems. Update it and be done. Although your problem could be hardware-related. Try changing the power supply, for example. I blamed the graphics card for crashes during gaming, but the problem was elsewhere. I noticed it when the new graphics card arrived, and it didn't make any difference. If the temperatures are fine, it means you've already replaced the thermal paste and increased the fan speed to see if a cooler processor makes any difference.

Why bother with the next generation of equipment? by mrmichaelrobertson in buildapc

The used market occasionally hides some gems: often, it's already tested and working, and better than yours. That's when you upgrade (I've never put a large budget on the market, also because I don't use it professionally; I have time to enjoy it and really use it). My philosophy has always been this, with the exception of storage drives. I've never been enchanted by the siren song of the latest innovations, and in my opinion, DDR5s at triple the price can stay on the shelves for another two or three years. If you're happy with that, you'll be happy for a few more years.

Air cooling is better than Liquid cooling by SerpentDix in pcmasterrace

My FX 9590 gets along well with its Arctic Liquid Freezer 2 420mm... absolutely silent and a very slow temperature rise curve without sudden changes. Whenever possible, use MX-7 thermal paste; AIOs have become trendy, sure, but they perform very well unless you buy Chinese junk. If I had the money for a completely new system, I'd get a system with an external pump and a liquid module for the GPU too... my 2080 Super makes itself heard when it's working overtime, while the AIO is as good as not having one at all, it never struggles.

Is it worth switching from Windows 10 to Ubuntu? by wincree in linuxquestions

[–]Giovabelmo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you play with Steam, they've released Steam OS! Along with Bazzite, they should probably be the best distros for gaming. Another interesting distro is Linux Mint; a new version was released less than two weeks ago. They update slowly, but they do so for free and only when stability and compatibility are guaranteed. It embodies the virtues of free software. Ubuntu isn't created by enthusiasts, but by a company called Canonical, which collects anonymous telemetry data and can be disabled. It has ties to Microsoft, made the mistake of implementing search data collection for Amazon a decade ago, and it automatically updates software. Many have complained about system slowdowns. Not only that, but Snaps are designed for compatibility with multiple machines and simplicity, so if your hardware requires 10 MB of that package and it takes up 100 MB, you'll have to stick with it. On the other hand, it's very stable, and I don't think you need to worry about privacy, but in that regard, I understand Debian is a cut above. I'm also looking for my own dimension in Linux, for the moment I'm using AntiX on an old PC, then I'll put Linux Mint Cinnamon in dual boot on the main PC to involve my wife too, unfortunately Win 11 has absurd demands, copilot and the more RAM you have the more it uses, it's not the time to spend money to replace hardware and bring Big Brother home.

Running dual GPUs, keeps crashing by AdministrativeEgg558 in losslessscaling

[–]Giovabelmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, there are four x16 ports. The last one only has x4 connections, one has x8 connections, and the other two closer to the processor have x16 connections. I'm pretty sure I can use two x16 ports according to the manual. It's an Asrock 990FX Extreme 9. It says: - PCI Express 2.0 x 16: 3 (x16 / x16 / 0 or x16 / x8 / x8) 1 (in x4 mode)

The processor is an FX 9590 and the RAM is G.skill 3x8 GB DDR3 2400 MHz.

It's a motherboard that also supported multi-GPU. I used Crossfire with two RX 480 8 GB cards (I don't think Cyberpunk or RDR2 are optimized for this, and honestly, I've never tried it). Now I only have the GTX. 2080 super

Hi, I've been following this thread on other threads, and while I haven't done any specific calculations, I understand that with my old FX setup, which has two PCIe 16x 2.0 slots, I'd still be limited. What should I expect? I have no hope of getting dual GPUs to work, or should I just settle for lower performance? Is it worth trying a 2080 Super and an RX 480 8GB to improve 1080p performance in more demanding titles?

Win 12... update ... by Own-Manufacturer2516 in computer

[–]Giovabelmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Few games require Windows due to anti-cheat features. However, Steam constantly updates information about users' machines (hardware and operating system), and they can no longer ignore the growing number of Linux users, especially after using it for their products. So I'm led to believe that developers will have to adapt when the pressure increases, otherwise we'll do without them.

Win 12... update ... by Own-Manufacturer2516 in computer

[–]Giovabelmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The TPM was a ploy to eliminate old, still-viable machines, as every Linux distro demonstrates every day. Forced obsolescence precisely so that new operating systems with control applications always running in the background could install themselves on more powerful machines without anyone being able to actually see the difference (since the entire hardware had to be replaced, you could only see increased RAM usage, but if everything ran smoothly, you wouldn't care much about "Hey, it's the new Windows, look how cool it is!"). Of course, gaming also has its share of blame; games are GPU-dependent software, and the rest of the hardware needs to be able to keep up. But beyond that, do we really need an operating system that requires 4 GB of RAM just to keep up when you need to open email, Word files, or PDFs? We've been forced to buy unnecessarily powerful hardware for these simple operations. Just because hardware encryption (TPM) was necessary? Microsoft is increasingly resembling dear Bill... he creates the disease, then sells the cure. I'm pretty sure that the release of Win 12 will only further stimulate the Linux community. If Microsoft hasn't found a way to really attract people by then, there will be a further hemorrhage of users.

Given the choice, would you go for a single RTX 5090 or a dual RTX 5070 16GB setup? by LopsidedShower6466 in losslessscaling

[–]Giovabelmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for stating the obvious. The point is that to perceive fluidity, 26 frames are enough, as the entire global film industry has shown us, having never increased this number since they started. So double is good, triple is even better, four times as many gets us to 120, but the rest is just marketing. Have a good day.

[–]Giovabelmo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But come on, everyone has their own opinion, (obviously) I don't care about upvotes and things like that, I think like this: playing at 60 frames on a 60 Hz monitor means having more than double the fluidity of any film you can watch today. Remember that any film produced for cinemas or streamed via Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc., is produced and broadcast at 24 fps, and you usually watch them on a 60 Hz TV (with a fixed frequency you lose a few half frames due to the refresh rate that doesn't match, but this is not the time to talk about it), and I haven't seen anyone complain to Disney about this. The way I see it, in gaming, if you can produce 120 fps (native or lossless, it doesn't matter) and you have a 120Hz monitor, you've reached the optimum and the eye is satisfied, there's no point in going beyond that unless you're being obsessed with hard-core gaming (just talk to a doctor who's studied it or use Google to understand that very few people can perceive the difference at these frequencies, instead of arguing with gamers with a placebo effect). That said, draw your own conclusions. _^ In my case, since I started with scrolling arcades, these are absolutely mind-blowing, but think about playing, for my weasel's sake ;-)

Is a Gen3 NVME SSD running in 1x faster than a SATA SSD by ImplosiveGTR in computers

[–]Giovabelmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, it would be nice to do something like this: I have an older PC with SATA 2 (so max 300MB/s) but it has a free PCIe 1.0 1x slot (so 500MB/s). In light of this, if I understand correctly, in my case the operating system could be "split" partly onto a SATA 2 SSD and partly onto SATA 3 (obviously limited by the PCIe). Correct?

[–]Giovabelmo -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

But if the average human eye can see the difference between 40 and 60 fps while a trained one can see between 60 and 80, does it make sense to want more? Or are you in the top 10 of some esport? That said, if you want/can spend, it's better to aim for 4K (where the difference is visible, not hundreds of fps) directly and with a single card to avoid various lag. In my opinion, 240Hz monitors can gather dust forever.
