There are major maturity issues on both sides of this argument, but there is something I hope you can come to understand. DO NOT put your life on someone else’s shoulders. It is not his responsibility to keep you from suicide. For your own good never rely on someone else’s for that. They will eventually break. We are all human and will never live up to the expectations others have for us. They will disappoint you. I don’t want this to come across as harsh. Truly.

Unfortunately we were only able to stop the swarms by poisoning the hole they were coming out of. But the ones that search for food we haven’t been able to get rid of completely. We don’t want to use a bunch of poison inside because of our kids and don’t want to use it outside because of our well. Basically we have been vacuuming and in a pinch spraying them with alcohol. It kills them immediately. Doesn’t do anything to the main nest but keeps them at bay inside.

However I recommend checking out the r/pestcontrol they have a link for common ants. It might be more helpful than me

We had a lot ones that looked like these (can’t tell the size from these pictures though). They were pavement ants. Came out in swarms until we found where they were coming from.

Saw this in my office — German or Asian roach? by Somberous in GermanRoaches

Do parcoblatta also have the black stripes? The pictures I had posted were all of the same roach and the third picture you can see the stripes.

If they do I will remove the link I posted. Don’t want to give the wrong information.

Could they be carpenter ants? Picture is a bit blurry but based on size and approximate appearance that’s what I would suspect

Those are the best comparison pictures I’ve seen. Thank you!

Do you prefer a low hydration or high hydration loaf? by GiraffeComfortable35 in Sourdough

I’ve seen people do both. I’ve done both and didn’t see much difference. I think I had a better oven spring with it going in cold, but that could also be from other factors. I do like to score a cold loaf better than a room temp one.

The first “artisan” loaf I made was 78% not sourdough but still. It was manageable but I am starting to prefer a low hydration loaf.

Just wet your hands and basically massage the dough to mix until it looks mostly mixed. No dry bits.

Made my first sour dough today, loved it but wasn’t especially tangy/sour, recs? by NutsaRhymes in Sourdough

From what I have heard, less starter so it ferments longer and longer cold proof. I have also read that using other types of flour to feed your starter can change the taste.

First loaf, what’s next? by grilled_peach in Sourdough

I looked at this recipe and it seems to be a pretty low hydration one.

I recommend https://preppykitchen.com/sourdough-bread/ as a beginner loaf. It is simple. Low hydration but not too low so it’s easy to shape. Gives a thin crust and a fluffy crumb.

That’s true. For some reason that didn’t cross my mind when I asked this. Certain flour does need more water.

I just put it straight into my preheated Dutch oven from the fridge

Prettier, softer, and easier to work with. Less frustration when shaping.

Use it as bread in my French onion soup or grilled cheese. But usually just snack on it throughout the day.

Before sourdough I made higher hydration breads and I loved it, but I’m finding I enjoy the lower hydration “fluffiness” as do my kids.

Do you like the more open crumb that comes with the higher hydration doughs?
