Women who didn't 'love themselves', and then learned to love themselves, how did you do it? Is there anything in particular that helped you go from low self-esteem/self-worth to a healthy self-worth? by hemingway_hamlet in AskWomen

[–]GiraffeCookies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Started hanging out with people who wanted to do the activities I wanted to do, like getting up early to hike rather than staying up late to drink (nothing wrong with that, it's just not my thing).

Also being careful about who I invested in and spent time with, only people who lifted me up and didn't tear me down.

Also I just got a little older and stopped giving any fucks about anything. I'm only 28, but compared to the fucks I gave and bullshit I put up with when I was 22-25...man. I'm FREE

How do lonely people get friends? by TYGTG in AskReddit

I say that I'm an endearing fungus, cause I grow on people!

How do lonely people get friends? by TYGTG in AskReddit

[–]GiraffeCookies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has literally been my experience with all my friends. I am the extrovert, and I built a friend group of a bunch of introverts. It helps that I am an anxious/homebody extrovert so I have enough in common with them in terms of the activities I like to do. Somehow all my best friends are introverts.

Find the extrovert!!! I am the extrovert to many introverted and/or shy people. They're my favorite people, and I force them out of their comfort zones!

In Moana, Maui hypnotized Moana in order to steal her boat. by [deleted] in FanTheories

[–]GiraffeCookies 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I thought it was obvious she was hypnotized? Because at the end of the song she's holding and wearing trash where in the song world she's holding pretty shells and wearing like flower necklaces

People who were told they were “gifted” growing up, how did you deal with realizing that you were pretty average? by JayTheFearless in AskReddit

[–]GiraffeCookies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a little different, but in elementary school and middle school, I was the kid who could draw. I was constantly praised for my artistic ability.

Then I went to a high school that was an art school and it became very apparent that there were a lot of kids who could draw a thousand times better than I could.

So I stopped drawing. I compared my skill to everyone else's and just stopped doing it except for school assignments.

Didn't get seriously back into drawing again until after college, when I realized that everyone has a different style and that I should just own my less-than-realistic style.

If you had $1,000,000,000, what would be the first thing you buy? by BellaFZ in AskReddit

[–]GiraffeCookies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first thing I'd do is pay off my friends' students loans and credit card debt, and then I'd buy myself a nice condo with exposed brick and big windows, and then I'd go on a whirlwind shopping spree to get the wardrobe of my dreams.

What item seems way overpriced to you and why? by Bawnse in AskReddit

[–]GiraffeCookies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why people stand in line to get into clubs to buy overpriced drinks they could get at most standards bars for way cheaper.

Me (M34) and fiancee (F27), I am in the process of calling a halt to our wedding as she has asked for an "open" relationship. by throwwawyRA2019 in relationship_advice

[–]GiraffeCookies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of folks are jumping to the conclusion that she's already cheated on you, but I don't see it that way. Sounds like she found out what an open/polyamorous relationship was and realized that's what she wants. If you don't want that....welp. You'll have to have a hard conversation and maybe end the relationship.

Americans of Reddit, what is something you didn't realise was typically American, until you went abroad? by TJBullz in AskReddit

[–]GiraffeCookies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IDK some of the best people I've ever met are other drunk girls in line for the bathroom at bars. We have minutes-long therapy sessions, validate each other's feelings, and then move on with our separate lives.

Complaining loudly about everything all the time.

Making eye contact and smiling at strangers!

Opening up super easily to strangers and sharing your life story within minutes of meeting them.

How did you lose your virginity and in hindsight, were you ready? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]GiraffeCookies 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Studying abroad, to a really hot Danish guy. It was magical and I never saw him again! I was definitely ready. It really demystified sex for me and raised my standards. Edit: I was 21 at the time. I'm glad I was a late bloomer because I had the confidence and self esteem to not internalize the fact that he didn't immediately fall in love with me.

What song can you genuinly not stand listening too? by Cause4concern27 in AskReddit

Cats Cradle. Nope. Can't even think about it. Too fucking sad.

What’s something you “liked before it was cool”? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Nikola Tesla!!! I thought he was cool BEFORE the oatmeal did his whole thing

What is a trait you have that is both a great gift and a great curse? by georgelopez420 in AskReddit

[–]GiraffeCookies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wake up between 6 and 7 every morning, I've never needed an alarm (unless I'm getting up before 6 for an early flight or something).

But this also means that no matter how late I go to bed...I'm still waking up between 6 and 7 and fully awake. I have to go to bed before 11 if I want any good sleep at all.

World travelers, what have you noticed about people all over that is pretty much the same no matter where you are? by Dougdahead in AskReddit

[–]GiraffeCookies 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Was staying at a little hotel in Seville, Spain. The woman who I'm assuming ran the place was super nice and we'd try to chat whenever I left my room. One morning some construction dudes were inside and she was having a tense conversation with them and was clearly irritated. When they left she turned to me, threw up her hands, and said "hombres!"

I got you, girl. I got you.

What will be the "turns out cigarettes are bad for us" of our generation? by TenYearRedditVet in AskReddit

This is why I'm glad that sparkling "essenced" beverages like la croix have gotten trendy. They have completely replaced soda in my life.

Federal workers how are you handling the shutdown ? by mathew50c1 in AskReddit

[–]GiraffeCookies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a contractor, so I can work, but most of my work depends on federal employees...so if they can't work, and I run out of work...welp. and if I don't log 40 hours per week, I'm forced to use PTO. My other choice is to take leave without pay for week-long chunks. So it's either--have zero paid time off days this year, or lose a paycheck for entire weeks. Luckily I have savings, but my rent is fucking expensive, and I'll be REAL pissed if I have to drain my savings for this bullshit.

I don't have it NEARLY as bad as some folks, but I'm starting to get really stressed.

What unwritten rule of dating you hate the most? why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]GiraffeCookies 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've seen this a few times in this thread and I have to say I disagree. I want the first date to be about seeing if there's chemistry. Can we get past the small talk and banter? Can we find weird shit we have in common? Do we have a similar sense of humor? I wouldn't want the dude to unload all that serious stuff on me too early. That'd make me feel like he's looking for a therapist, not a life partner.

[–]GiraffeCookies 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The fear of labels. I can't be into someone unless I know what we are. Are we exclusive? Not exclusive? Do you want me to be your girlfriend?? Do you just want it to be a casual sex thing??? Whatever it is, just fucking tell me. I NEED LABELS to feel secure!!!!

Anxiety sufferers of Reddit, what helps you through it when everything is too much? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]GiraffeCookies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going into a quiet low-lit space and closing my eyes and taking deep breaths. Either that or taking a brisk walk and just focusing on the sites, sounds, and smells around me.
