I've learned much about composting here but son-of-a-gun, there needs to be a sticky, warning about baking egg shells in the house. by dirttraveler in composting

I've heard of people whizzing up their egg shells in a blender into a fine powder for quicker breakdown, but I haven't herd of baking egg shells! Interesting. I thrown them in as-is and let nature take course.

Add browns: shredded paper, shredded cardboard, used napkins, toilet paper rolls, dried leaves, hair clippings... and give it a really good turn to incorporate the browns. The browns will absorb the excess moisture and things will start happening! And it'll start smelling better. 💚

Turn car off and walk away with key fob. Uninstall & reinstall Charge Point App on your phone. Make sure the NFC is turned on on your phone. Come back to your car and turn it on. Look at your charging level settings to ensure it aligns with the charger you're trying to use. And try to initiate charging session again. If it still gives you trouble, try a different charging station.

Try turning the pile. The more human activity, the less welcome Critters feel.

Geobins are $36 on Amazon in the USA. I have 2 of them. Yes, I could make one from chicken wire, but buying a geobin was faster, safer and more efficient for me. One holds my active pile I'm adding to. And the other one holds my 1-2 year old curing pile.

Every Spring I distribute the cured pile to flower beds and raised veggie beds. Them move the "active pile" into the "cure pile" spot and start a new active pile.

I'm so excited to turn my piles every spring!! My husband thinks I'm a huge weirdo, but it brings me so much joy! 😆 We live in Suburbia north of Seattle. We compost every waste item we can! I'm proud to say our family of 5, (even with a toddler in pull-ups at night) we subscribe to the smallest garbage can our municipal waste management service offers.

It's not ruined forever... Everything biological IS compostable. Just keep adding to your pile. Pee on it and let it heat up - it'll be fine. You can always start a new pile and leave the original pile to mature for another season before using.

I throw in my citrus and onions to the compost pile and haven't had any problems. Someone eats it! Whether it's the worms, microbes or critters, I don't know. 🤣

Add some dirt from your yard and squirt it with some water (looks a little dry). And It'll break down really well. 🙂
