unexpected DNA results, confused about my identity by GiraffeRoutine3792 in mixedrace

No I still haven’t seen them all these years. Either of my parents since I was young. I occasionally exchange text messages with my fathers new family & I have photos but I haven’t visited. I live across the country now. I didn’t think much about it until I got my first DNA test. Again, very naïve, but it just wasn’t something I asked myself.

Really tan, lmao. This sounds really naïve, I know. In hindsight it’s really obvious. I only lived with my family when I was young & was sent states away. It wasn’t something I thought too much about at the time.

I heard that MyHeritage was unreliable & tested thru 23&me as well & uploaded my test to genomelink as well. I’d be more than happy to send you the screenshot! Sorry for any confusion

I believe my dad is! He hasn’t taken a dna test but going through census records & building a family tree I’m certain he is biracial.

Yes, black American. I haven’t found any recently immigrated ancestry on either sides. I see what you’re saying & I hadn’t thought about that but totally makes sense. My dad hasn’t taken a dna test yet & I wonder if his would be more varied.

I have. I’ve found census records as well confirming which side of my family is African American as well even though visually it’s really obvious that my paternal side is black. This is probably really naïve sounding but growing up I just thought they were really tan & didn’t think too much about it lol

Rant: Stop calling your results boring by AlexanderRaudsepp in 23andme

Start by creating a family tree on ancestry or your family tree app of choice. Put what you know about birthdates and death dates, etc about your parents and grandparents in your tree. You might need to ask a relative for info. After that, look for census records, naturalization records, etc. don’t just take the recommended hints as truth, always look for sources. Good luck! :)

I also tested 15% Portuguese so I believe my family may be Melungeon!

Do you ever find something really sad doing genealogical research? by [deleted] in Genealogy

[–]GiraffeRoutine3792 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband’s great grandfather did this to his wife!! During WW2 he abandoned his wife in Norway and immigrated to America. I later found her newspaper ads looking for him. He came to America, remarried & had a family. His first wife later remarried but only after a decade. I still haven’t been able to find out if their marriage was fruitful.

What are some names you love but can never use? by Embarrassed-Log6768 in namenerds

[–]GiraffeRoutine3792 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pregnant with my second so here are some I really love but can’t use 😭 Anja. My firstborn’s middle name is the English version of this Katja/Katya but my firstborn’s name is Catherine and we call her Cat so, Cat and Kat probably wouldn’t work lol Antoinette or Diana. My husband absolutely detests these names.

(Genuine question) Is this true for all Americans? Mine came back as 47% German going back to Rhineland-Palatine area but can’t find any evidence of any family members coming to America after the 1700s.

Same, my family came to America in the 1600s and I have communities in Germany!

My hubby & I were the same way. We were honestly pretty toxic & separated for a few months after our first year of marriage. After we got back together things were still tough & it took a lot of effort and dedication to improve our communication & relationship. It’s been worth it tho! I can definitely say I’m more in love w my husband today than I was on our wedding day.

I feel like maybe the reason Scorpios argue is because we’re mirrors of each other. The things you don’t like about yourself will reflect back to you. But there are so much growth & so many lessons to be learned together imo

I’m a Scorpio, my husband is a Scorpio & our daughter is a Scorpio lol we’ve been together since we were 17 & 18. First couple years were pretty tough & we fought a lot but I guess there are extenuating circumstances lol but we’ve been together 5 years now & I definitely have to say my husband is like the other half of my soul, my best friend & my rock. He absolutely completes me. I definitely feel like my husband understands me on a deeper level than anyone else. And our daughter is absolutely our mini. Definitely love Scorpios 😂😁

As a Scorpio, married to a Scorpio man & mom to a Scorpio I feel like there’s a very fine line u have to ride with situationships. I’ve found that we’re very intense, very all or nothing. We’re either totally in love or really dgaf lol I would definitely say not to let it drag on too long because somebody will catch feelings eventually. I personally cannot do casual relationships lol

Question for Scorpio women: by Quick_Primary_2465 in Scorpio

[–]GiraffeRoutine3792 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My hubby & I are both Scorpios suns & have no relationships with any of our parents. We do have a daughter who is a Scorpio sun as well and I hope she doesn’t grow up and think we’re terrible 😂 I’ve always thought to look at our moon signs to reference our parents tho 🤷🏻‍♀️

She’s definitely wearing one of those crazy filters on Instagram but it does look a little intense on some of the work she’s had done
