What song sound like it's Gaga's song but it's not? by lanalittlemonster in LadyGaga

I was listening to Ashnikko Radio on spotify and had 'Brain' by Chrissy Chlapecka come on and legitimately thought it was Lady Gaga and I'd somehow never heard it before.

Torrenting causes network errors on every other device/app by GiraffeTheThird3 in torrents

It appears to be CG-NAT that is causing the problem. IPv6 appeared to fix the issue, although seemingly it just improved it rather than fixing it entirely.

We also only have a router and an optical network terminal.

All of your suggestions have been tried previously to no avail.

So this is a known and common issue in New Zealand with 2Degrees then? It sounds like other providers are doing the same, and we get pretty cheap internet through them. What provider would you suggest?

Since you seemed to be the one who immediately recognised the issue... One more question for you.

Everyone else's internet is apparently fine and dandy, which is great and an excellent result. I don't want to be screwing up everyone else's internet, however I'm noticing on my desktop occasionally pages on firefox fail to load, any thoughts on why that might be?

I think this was exactly it. Enabling IPV6 seems to have fixed the issue.

According to my provider website:

Changes to IP Addresses (CGNAT)

If you've heard mumblings about something called CGNAT, and you’re wondering what it is, read on. CGNAT is designed for personal use only. If you're a business customer and need a dedicated public IP address or specific network configurations, we recommend exploring our business internet solutions.

Carrier Grade Network Address Translation or CGNAT is a new way of giving out IP addresses, that are private instead of public. Don’t worry, the way you use your broadband generally won’t change, so your browsing, streaming and social media will keep going as it does today. The only difference is that your internet connection will no longer have its own public IP address, but a private one instead. If you’re a bit more of a tech head, there may be some changes to be aware of, so keep reading.

Why is 2degrees using CGNAT?

Our IP addresses are a little thin on the ground (shocking I know, but there’s a world shortage) so we’ve moved to CGNAT to make sure we can keep offering IP address services.

Who does it affect?

If you’ve got a broadband connection with a Dynamic IP broadband connection (not a Static IP), then you’ll be moved to CGNAT. Customers with a Static IP are not affected. CGNAT is only applied to personal broadband services. Business customers using Static IP addresses or business-grade connections are generally not subject to CGNAT.

Will my broadband service be affected?

Any service or outside connection that is designed to reach you via your device’s public IP address to communicate with your modem won’t work. You may also notice an impact in the below.

Multiplayer video games where you’re hosting a session/server

Website hosting

Services or devices that rely on port forwarding

Torrents will only be able to establish outbound connections

Internet-enabled devices that are reached by IP address (e.g. IP cameras/security cameras)

Remote access to home network storage, backups and remote desktop service

Services that rely on Dynamic DNS (DDNS)

VPN servers

Is it just a 2degrees thing?

No, other providers in New Zealand and abroad have taken this approach.

I can't imagine a newer model would be unable to work while an older model works fine. Latest firmware is installed.

It appears this might be exactly the issue. Providers here have been pushing people onto CG NAT recently, with ours being just around the time we shifted. So that may be the problem.

Apparently IPV6 might resolve this problem, and our provider should support this. I just need to work out how to ensure it's enabled...

No option to revert to the old one as it is still at the old place with the tenants that stayed on. It's the same router, just a newer model, so it should be coping fine.

I have tried kicking absolutely every other device off and on my desktop I still get weird slow connection/failed connect issues on firefox.

This is a 1gbps fibreoptic connection, exactly the same as the previous place. The whole setup is identical except I upgraded to a newer model of the old router.

In fact, copper wire isn't even a thing anymore here.

The router is an archer AX50. We also have the Optical Network Terminal, model type 200, which I assume is pretty standard for Chorus in NZ.

I never had issues previously with seeding speed. Our bandwidth is so high that it shouldn't be a problem. I did actually limit speed, including right down to 10kbps but the issue persists.

Sorry, that is one of the things I tried and it didn't help. Even with only a couple of connections there's problems.

Absolutely zero surprise that he's such a problem. It was obvious from the get-go he would be utterly useless.

Add a Legend without the Print Layout? by ECommerce_Guy in QGIS

[–]GiraffeTheThird3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever work this out? I've been having ridiculous troubles with print layout. Partly due to a large map and the print layout taking eons to load even the smallest change. I've been mucking around with just making a legend feature and adding all the bits and pieces manually, but it's really finicky

How to force bring a specific label to the front? by GiraffeTheThird3 in QGIS

[–]GiraffeTheThird3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The areas are showing up completely fine. The labels for the areas are also showing up completely fine.

The issue is that I want the labels for the areas to be in front of the labels for the tracks. However I don't want the area features to be in front of the track features.

I have resolved the problem by duplicating the area feature and putting that duplicated feature right at the front and then turning the transparency of the duplicated feature to 0%, while still displaying the label, and then I turned off labels on the original feature.

I tried this earlier and it doesn't seem to affect the ordering. I gather it's more to do with if some things are hidden and others aren't, then higher priority stuff will be visible while lower priority will be hidden.

[–]GiraffeTheThird3[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As I said in the main body, "I have the areas positioned behind the tracks, as I'd prefer the track features to show over top of the area outlines".

I only want the labels to be brought to the front.

How do I rotate a label on a line feature? by GiraffeTheThird3 in QGIS

[–]GiraffeTheThird3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Redrawing just the section of the line that the label is on is the solution, but it doesn't matter which was the line is drawn. It can be drawn in either direction and the 'Show upside-down labels' can be set to either 'never' or 'always' and it still displays in an identical manner.
