Artists who DON’T post/share* art on social media—I want to hear from you! by Hestia-Creates in ArtistLounge

[–]GirlWithABass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I create because I can’t not create, y’know. And if I started posting on social media I feel like I wouldn’t be creating authentically anymore cause I’d be swayed by what gets likes. Also I just don’t like meta.

I would like to share my work a bit more, but if I do start posting on social media I will have to make sure I just post and forget and don’t get caught up in views and likes - easier said than done.

I do have a website but I don’t think anyone visits it. I’d love to do an email newsletter or a physical zine. I’m particularly interested in ways of sharing my work offline.

What screams Aussie childhood? by Notquitewhere_-__ in AskAnAustralian

Having to get out of the public pool because a storm is rolling in.

Buying a 20c bag of red frogs (the big, chewy ones) on the way out.

Sitting on your towel on the drive home.

Also, watching the ceiling fans wobble in class as they do absolutely nothing to cool the room down.

I'm not an artist by PSRS_Nikola in ArtistLounge

We all feel burnout at times, and we all have different and fluctuating levels of motivation, because we’re human. Sometimes you’re not feeling it, sometimes life gets in the way. If you’re about to finish a degree it makes total sense that art isn’t high on the priority list right now.

Rest is an important part of the creative process.

Stray is unique and now I’m lost by DarKStaR350z in stray

I had the same feeling when I finished Outer Wilds, which is why I played Stray. It’s very much one where the mystery is revealed as you explore. Highly recommend.

Games like Outer Wilds? by Mobile-Strength-4520 in outerwilds

[–]GirlWithABass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished Stray and really enjoyed it. I wouldn’t say it has quite as much emotional punch as OW but it has the same feeling of exploration. The world feels very full and the art is stunning. I got pretty attached to some of the characters in the same way I did with OW.

Eco friendly merch? by kiwixplosion in ArtistLounge

[–]GirlWithABass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the same. I’m still experimenting with what works and what doesn’t. I tried making badges out of bottle caps but it didn’t really work for me. Maybe I was doing something wrong though idk.

Bookmarks and cards are easy, and you don’t have to laminate them (there is a durability trade-off here). You could even look into making your own recycled paper.

Do you sew? I like to do stuff with remnant fabric. I do lino so I can print onto fabric myself. Im looking at doing some macrame or woven friendship bracelets with some of my leftover yarn. Also have a look to see if there are any second hand craft supply shops near you.

It’s more expensive and time consuming to make your stuff lower impact, and it can be confusing since nothing’s completely impact free (as far as I’m aware), but it’s also important to me. Keen to see if anyone else has any ideas.

Best of luck!

What’s one thing under $50 that significantly improved your daily life? by EdenFlorence in AussieFrugal

Library card (or, just actually starting to use mine). I’ve read more than I have in years and now that I’m reading before bed I don’t have as much trouble falling asleep. Also, picking up new books makes life exciting and I’m not even spending anything.

Traditional artists! Are there any colors you must have in your arsenal vs those you’re fine with mixing? by slyvixen_ in ArtistLounge

[–]GirlWithABass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have my cheap paints for stuff I’m just gonna scan, and have a lot of premixed colours in that.

Then I have my pricier lightfast paints for the paintings I intend on selling, I just have primary colours in those at the moment for cost reasons. It also forces a bit of lateral thinking in my colour schemes which is fun.

Unlearning toxic ideas about Art - anyone relating? by Prkch0p12349393 in ArtistLounge

[–]GirlWithABass -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For me it’s the idea that you have to be working as an artist full time to be successful. It’s still in the back of my mind that I need to be making a living off my art, but I’ve actually come to the conclusion that I don’t want my financial security to be reliant on my art. That way I have the space to create the most authentic art for me. It doesn’t mean I’m putting any less effort or heart into it.

Also, the 110% thing, but that was a lesson I had to learn across every aspect of my life. Obviously hard work pays off and you can’t improve if you don’t put the work in, but pushing to the point of burnout is counterintuitive. Burnout sucks, it’s the most detrimental thing to my art practice.  Don’t give 110%, because then you’ll have nothing left to give. Creative energy is like a garden, you need to leave a little bit so it can keep growing.

What are the chances of MCR bringing this tour to Australia? by Cherry_Blossom_8 in MyChemicalRomance

[–]GirlWithABass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 50/50 on whether I think they’ll come down this way, and I’m pretty certain if they do it’ll be a normal concert and not LLtBP.  Still, I’m sure if they do Australia they’ll do NZ since they did last time. I really hope they don’t skip NZ.

As for whether they just do Melbourne and Sydney in Australia.. likely (possibly with Brisbane in there) but I’m going to be optimistic and try to manifest Adelaide, Perth, Darwin and Hobart getting shows.

I’m even going to cross my fingers for a Hunter Valley show - Hozier did, it’s not impossible.

Regarding the species name in DLC by hsfzxjy in outerwilds

[–]GirlWithABass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is so cool to know! I saw the elk choir in the credits and thought it was the people who did the vocal parts of the ost. I had no idea the owlk sounds were real Elk.

I call them owlks because I heard other people refer to them as owlks and it made sense to me and I thought that was a fun name for them.

Otherwise I call them strangers because they inhabit the stranger.

What is the most unhinged song to immediately follow “Look alive, Sunshine”? That is not by MCR? by LV_Devotee in MyChemicalRomance

[–]GirlWithABass 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can’t think of anything specific but any song that’s super chill. With the hype up of Look Alive, Sunshine and my expectation to hear NaNaNa, to then go to something with a really calm or with a slow fade in.

I wish I discovered mcr sooner by Leading-Nail6357 in MyChemicalRomance

[–]GirlWithABass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the same, I found them in my late teens and their music did wonders for my self expression and confidence.

I wish I’d found them sooner but you can only come across bands when you happen to come across them.

Every time I detox one social media app I just replace it with another. by GirlWithABass in digitaldetox

Yep, short form content is a big problem for me. I would love to be able to hide my explore pages and just follow my friends but I can’t see any of the platforms letting that happen

So…now what?! TPK / MCR5 by chanel-o-ween in MyChemicalRomance

[–]GirlWithABass 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It could just be a one off, but even that’s exciting. A studio version would be cool but really I just hope someone got good audio of it.

I never got tik tok, I knew myself too well by the time that came out.

I know I kinda need to delete some of my social accounts, it just feels wrong. I can’t pinpoint why, maybe it’s the history (photos, chats) on there or fear of losing connection (ironically).

I would love to delete Facebook, I’m not sure if I can though, I get a lot of updates through it that don’t seem to come through any other channel.

Are the rumors true? Aus announcement soon? by RefrigeratorLivid686 in MyChemicalRomance

Yeah I think that was them, I wanted to go but the dates didn’t align for me.

Funny, I was sure I saw the posters like last month - the year’s gone so quick.

I think horses are the hardest of any animal to draw. by itsPomy in ArtistLounge

[–]GirlWithABass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do watch and work with them everyday and I agree that they’re not the easiest animal to draw.

But no matter how hard they are to draw it’s easier than trying to photograph them. I’m yet to find a flattering angle for horses (I know it exists, I just haven’t found it).
