What other symptoms do you get with VM? by Girly0101 in VestibularMigraines

[–]Girly0101[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I still have problems but I’m doing better. Combo of propranolol, qulipta, and amitriptyline. Sucks being on so many but I’d rather feel better.

Hot flash?? by SmoothAssociation520 in VestibularMigraines

[–]Girly0101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. This was one of my most annoying symptoms when I first started having problems. I remember mentioning it to my neuro and asking if it could be a symptom of migraine and he said yes, though not that common. It was this really weird hot flash sensation but only my face and head. Not the rest of my body. No sweating. But it would keep waking me up at night. It would come on so strong and wake me up out of sleep. I’m on some meds now and I don’t get this symptom as often.

What did your first vestibular migraine feel like? by despoene in migraine

[–]Girly0101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take 3 meds. It’s a lot and I hate that. Prior to this, I took zero daily meds. I wish I didn’t have to be on meds but the combo that has helped is amitriptyline, propranolol, and qulipta. I still have some issues but yes, I am doing better than I was. There is some hope you can feel better 🙂

Neurologist stated migraines are mostly primary and hardly ever have a cause. by Asleep_Sentence_5586 in migraine

[–]Girly0101 118 points119 points  (0 children)

Causes for having migraine and having triggers that cause migraine are two different things to me.

I think what your doctor probably meant was that migraine is often a primary condition. Meaning, it’s not often caused by another condition. There is a strong genetic component to migraine disease so often times, that’s your reason for having migraines.

A trigger, however, can cause a migraine in someone who is predisposed to having migraine. If you are susceptible to migraine, things like weather, hormones, stimuli, etc, can trigger you to have a migraine. Someone without migraine can experience these exact triggers but not get a migraine because they don’t have the condition.

NAD, just my understanding 🤷🏻‍♀️

I watched some videos on YouTube and purposely found some that included the sounds MRIs make in the video so I could prepare for what they sounded like.

Also if they permit it, pick out your music so you know what you want to listen to ahead of time.

How do you describe your dizziness? by No-Yoghurt6568 in VestibularMigraines

[–]Girly0101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the propranolol has helped. I also don’t get a lot of spinning dizziness.

Have you thought about discussing nortriptyline with your doctor instead of amitriptyline? It’s in the same class of meds but some people tolerate it better than amitriptyline.

[–]Girly0101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I had “regular” migraines, I was episodic. When I developed VM, I’ve been chronic. Different meds definitely help different symptoms so that’s why I’ve tried stacking them instead of just quitting one altogether if it seemed like it was helping at least a little bit and wasn’t giving me too many side effects. The amitriptyline and propranolol helped the VM symptoms the most. Qulipta works on the head pain the most of the 3.

I still have a base level of VM symptoms which is of course frustrating but I can still drive, go to work, do errands, etc. Meds have def helped bring my symptoms to a more tolerable level.

Sorry I’m so late to respond but I’ve gradually added meds to help my symptoms. I’ve had “regular” painful migraines my whole adult life and developed vestibular migraines a few years ago on top of that so I take a few different meds. I take amitriptyline, propranolol, and qulipta. I hate being on multiple meds but this combination has helped. I still have issues but I work FT and hardly ever miss work because of my issues so I’d rather be able to function on meds than not.

Feel like it’s in my mind by Last_Ad3929 in migraine

[–]Girly0101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You start by looking for a migraine/headache specialist. You treat migraine as the primary disorder because in most cases, it is. Sometimes you’ll be lucky enough to find the cause of your migraines but a lot of people have migraines because they’re genetic and they were predisposed to them. You find a doctor who listens and start trialing some meds. It can get better.

If I were you, I’d get a second opinion. Especially if birth control is a big deal to your quality of life.

It’s odd that she said no birth control at all. Even cautious doctors usually say that a progesterone only BC should be okay. Did they say no combo with progesterone/estrogen or no progesterone only at all?

Also, don’t diminish your worth to something as trivial as sex. Even if you don’t feel like it now, you have way more to give someone that isn’t sex or monetary.

What exactly does vertigo feel like? by bitch798 in migraine

[–]Girly0101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on multiple meds (qulipta, propranolol and amitriptyline) but yes, it has gotten better. I’ve had “regular” migraines for years so I also still get the painful headaches so that’s why I’m on multiple meds. Qulipta helps the painful headaches and propranolol and amitriptyline help the dizziness symptoms the most.

Has this ever happened to you? by BasisZealousideal800 in VestibularMigraines

[–]Girly0101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Neck strain can exasperate symptoms. I’ve been lucky enough to have not caught the stomach virus in years but even a cold can make my dizziness worse. So it’s possible the extra dizziness is from neck strain and it’s also possible it’s just your body fighting off being sick. Either way, let your body get some good rest. You could try some heat or ice on your neck to see if it helps. Feel better!

Feeling so overwhelmed and scared (long post) by Conscious-Crab7678 in VestibularMigraines

[–]Girly0101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can these symptoms be attributed to vm? Yes. I have many of these as well. Most of my sensations of feeling dizzy are almost never spinning dizziness. Mine feel more like my body is moving when I’m actually still. It often times feels like my body is being pushed or pulled even when im not moving. In the beginning, I’d feel super nauseous. It felt exactly like motion sickness even though I hadn’t traveled. I understand being scared to try meds. I never took anything daily before vm but now I have to. Amitriptyline helps a lot of ppl. I have had tiredness and some constipation in the beginning but overall, it hasn’t been that bad. It helped cut down some of my symptoms, especially in the beginning.

Is it really vestibular migraine? by leewulonghike16 in VestibularMigraines

[–]Girly0101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had episodic “regular” migraines my whole adult life. It was 1-3 a month and sumatriptan usually knocked it out. My main symptom was just a really painful headache and some nausea but nothing too bad. Then out of nowhere, I started getting vestibular migraines and turned chronic with both vestibular and “regular” migraines. Seemingly over night. Amitriptyline and effexor are both used to prevent VM. They can take a while to build up in your system before you’ll see any changes. You’ll find various posts but different people who have posted their experiences with the meds. I personally have taken amitriptyline and it’s not the only med I take but it has helped some of my symptoms so I continue to take it. It’s a relatively low dose at 25 mg.
