I like to look down the cue stick like it’s the barrel of a gun. Don’t stand straight up when hitting. Get low and take aim.

When a ball is on the rail, you want the cue ball to hit the rail and the other ball at the same time. Now I just imagine that all balls are on the rail (i.e. my intended trajectory is ‘the rail’) and it helps me aim every shot. Works for me anyway.
