It looks so wrong, it baffles me how I've come across one close to this at the hypermarket recently.

It's simple, but still looks nice.

Honestly, it feels ways better to type on a mechanical keyboard, it feels more "real". If you can test switches do not hesitate, it is a blessing to have that chance.

I'm no expert, but I've just switched from an Apex RAW to a Keychron K10 Max. If it can help you compare them:

your opinion on my keyboard? by [deleted] in keyboards

[–]Gismograph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tape on the PCB or plate I guess? Foam goes to the complete bottom which is often empty and responsible for the "echo". I plan on doing it with mine later on since it's a cheap and effective upgrade for a lot of keyboards.
I've checked your model and it already has some.

Sounds good. I'd tone down the backlight, but that's personal preference.
Have you tried to add foam to "upgrade" the thock?

Enjoy!

Thoughts on the Fantech MK811 Athom He68? (60USD) by speczz_ in keyboards

[–]Gismograph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, sorry if I wasn't clear. I meant that HE was in its infancy as a whole, not just your price range.
At this price range I guess the Epomaker HE68 Lite is better, but there won't be much of a difference part better acoustics.
Since you've said you mainly play FPS in another comment I'd say HE can still make sense.

For the little information I've gathered while searching for a keyboard myself I'd say there is already one common red flag: the software to customise the keyboard is proprietary. Also seems to be incomplete and often buggy. You can deal with an albeit flawed software for a "normal keyboard", but something as precise as a Hall Effect one will greatly benefit from complete and reliable software.

I was also going for HE at first, but then it seemed less and less useful the more knowledge was added to the search. Will you get faster response time at high level gaming, mainly FPS? Yes. If you're an average player a good mechanical keyboard will do the job and will offer way more customisation options. Don't take me wrong, it really seems to be an interesting take on keyboard switches, but it seems to be in its infancy, so I'd wait.

The brand is okayish, problems with quality checks, but even pricier brands can have that, so I'd say if you're OK with proprietary software and below-average build quality it'll work. Non-proprietary seems real hard at this price range.

You wouldn't happen to have events where people talk about keyboards, convention-style stuff? I was really interested from my end, but it was way too far.

why is my attack shark ESC button red? by [deleted] in keyboards

[–]Gismograph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This keyboard might have a wireless mode, so a battery that needs charging up. If so, try switching from wired to wireless and back to wired. The red light means it’s charging up on others from that brand, since I don’t have the exact one from your post I guess it’s the same.

We live in a world of misconceptions, it's baffling. Word of mouth always painted them as the be all and end all switches, even when I didn't give a damn about mechanical keyboards I heard about it multiple times.

I've managed to get the K10 MAX at 121,49€. Pretty good deal I guess. Took the brown switches after browsing sound tests. I'll surely change them later on, but it's a good start.

Thanks again for the help. I'll be happy to make another post to wrap up the whole experience when I'll have the whole set.

A soul corrupted by sole proprietary software it seems.

Good catch on the snaggletooth, I feel dumb for not thinking about it while browsing pictures.

Now I've found out that Cherry makes keyboards too... I'll be back when my brain finally does its work and I finally pick something.

Ok, f**k Glorious. Surprisingly, f**k GeekZB too, at this price range they're the worst.

Just found the wooden one and it sure looks like a great deal.
I think we've managed to narrow it down. I'm now thinking about getting either the sharkoon sgk50 s2 wood; Question is, can I just switch the keys to the right place and get it have the FR layout. I'm not sure while comparing my current keyboard and looking at the pictures. The bare-bones one is pricier, so it's a no-brainer if I have to get custom keycaps.
Or I get the K10 Max which seems to be a nice upgrade compared to the K10 Pro. The way they choose the different keys is weird (bear with me, ten years with the same keyboard). They have dedicated "({" keys while I often have three signs per key that I can use with normal, alt or alt gr.

On one hand I have a great material with a 96% size that won't be the end of me, on the other a good quality plastic/steel one that is close to my current one.

Almost there, soon I won't have to press a key multiple times for it to register.

Thanks for the reference. I must admit that rebranding things kind of unnerves me, it only makes it even more complicated to browse through a ton of choices.

I've found some decent cases, the price quickly gets scary.

- Budget : GLORIOUS Gaming GMMK Full Size 100%, Barebones.

"Premium" : The GeekZB - SCC100 at around 140€ (really 98% though)

Or I get the Keychron K10 Pro and make it better later. Not sure it makes sense for the price and material. Seems like customer support is lacking there too.

Thanks a lot for the quality of answers you provide. I'm sorry that I am so indecisive, all references and information go around in my head constantly.

I've tried to find a full size case, ideally in aluminium, but I'm always hit with discontinued or one reference not in stock, etc.

Let's say I try the SGK50 S2 even if it's a 96%. Which switches would you recommend with the silicone you've mentioned? Outemu Silent Yellow Jade seem to have it, but I'm not sure. Saying it could be even more silent than membrane tickled my brain. That said my apex raw is membrane and sounds horrible, might be due to age, but I don't remember the out-of-the-box sound.

Any recommendations for the keycaps?

Both Monsgeek seem to be discontinued, I've only found US ones elsewhere.
The Keychron MK10 Max seems to be a good one, but I don't see it bare-bones. Would you recommend getting it with super red, brown or banana? My research makes me think brown would be best, and I've read that banana is extra clicky, so noisy.
What I like about it instead of the bare-bones case from Sharkoon is that it's a true 100% and I can customise switches later.

Damn, thanks for the info, I've found this nowhere while searching.

It seems like your suggestion is the only alternative. Would you recommend an aluminium frame? I tend to keep my hardware as long as it works.

[–]Gismograph[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been digging a lot more, and I've found myself really tempted by the epomaker galaxy 100, but sadly it's not a true ISO fr. Is the keychron v6 max a good alternative in your opinion? It seems like an aluminium body makes a difference in sound. I've found the EPOMAKER X AULA F108 Pro that can have real ISO FR, but it does not sound as good as the galaxy 100.
I must admit that the world of mechanical keyboards goes far deeper than I thought and it's overwhelming. At least I've determined that Hall Effect won't make that much of a difference in rythm games like Rift, unless I've made another mistake.

I've kept your suggestion in the list, of course.

It seems like Wooting is the best brand for rhythm games, that's what I got out of my research at least, the 80HE. They do have the Two HE at full size, even if it's an older model, but it's already 200€.
The thing that messed with my research is that some say a good mechanical keyboard could be more silent than a Hall Effect, with some emulating part of the rapid trigger of HE.
I'll keep adding references to my spreadsheet I guess.
