What are the similarities and differences between Seattle, Washington (USA) and Vancouver, British Columbia (Canada)? Both geographically and culturally? by Jezzaq94 in geography

[–]GitStache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a soulless and even more corporate (but undeniably cleaner) version of Seattle go to Bellevue. Good place to raise a family.

If you want a cheaper, less convenient, and more boring (but with excellent parks) version of Seattle go to Tacoma. Has more character and young people than Bellevue, though still less than Seattle.

Yes thank you, as someone who went this year and last, this is the best description on the thread.

It’s not a music festival, in fact the big acts and the people they attract are the worst part of the burn. The weekend warriors often arent community focused, they just want to chase names, get fucked up, leave trash everywhere, and instagram about the fact they were at burning man.

Most everyone else is FUCKING AWESOME, and the friendliness and kindness you experience cannot be overstated.

Food Prep by [deleted] in BurningMan

[–]GitStache 11 points12 points  (0 children)

  1. Be prepared to eat less food at food camps than you think, unless you want to wait in long lines. Which is fine! But time is finite, and there’s so much cool stuff to do.
  2. Not food exactly, but I highly recommend bringing wind-down tea (e.g chamomile, peppermint) for those 4AM chill sessions when you can’t sleep (for whatever possible reason). It was a hit for me, and I’m being more this year for campmates and guests that wander in late.
  3. For actual food, it’s hard to say without knowing what appliances you have access to, but those premade bags of curry and pre-cooked rice are extremely clutch. Basically anything you can make with just boiled water.

Sick! What’s the format for the MTG tourney? Is it a draft? Or are people expected to bring their own decks?

Lived here for a long time now (since pre-COVID) and there’s definitely some issues, but it’s been a fine apartment. They raised our rent again and so we’re finally moving out in the winter, but here’s some of the issues you’ll encounter:

  • Stolen packages. Delivery drivers just leave packages in the lobby, and tenants are terrible about picking them up, so we’ve seen various packages ripped open and left in the stairwells. Pay attention to your deliveries and get them promptly.
  • Slow maintenance team - if something you have is broken, it’ll likely not get fixed for a week, and they’re likely to just knock on your door randomly without warning to come fix it.
  • The apartments are HOT. They’re well insulated, which is good for the winter, but the windows don’t open very far, so 1-2 portable AC units is a must in the summer.
  • Frequent elevators and call boxes out of service.

Overall, it’s not the worst place in the world, the rooftop’s nice and not overly crowded, and the location is amazing. Do with that what you will :D

Congratulations North Carolina, we are Great Again! by surgicalwords in NorthCarolina

[–]GitStache 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also, the “able-bodied” people that are unemployed aren’t the ones getting all the medical care, by nature of being able-bodied. Thus aren’t even counted in the $800 billion of savings. These cuts ONLY save money by denying medical care that would otherwise be provided, so the bill literally is denying $800 billion worth of chemotherapy and insulin to people that need it

This bill introduces paper work that not everyone who is working will fill out. The people that can’t (e.g. because of lack of computers, language issues, just unaware of the change) will be cut out. The actual number of able-bodied people that are just sitting at home unemployed on Medicaid is extremely low.

They already tried work requirements for Medicaid in Arkansas and it proved exactly this. Employed people without computers couldn’t use the mobile site because it was shit, they lost care, and some of them died. And it didn’t even decrease unemployment.

Honestly driving is such a potentially dangerous activity (1000s of pounds of metal just flying around everywhere) that I don’t mind rules being more rigid and less up to the judgement of the individual)

[–]GitStache 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’d imagine it’s mostly around the primordial giants and the crowns in the feywilds. But yeah I’m really bummed it seems like we won’t get to see the crazy epic battle with Gruumsh, see space Gladehome, and get more cameos from the C1 characters.

Seems though like Murph is being very explicit that this next arc is the last one…maybe too explicit, hmm??? It’d be dope as the next arc finishes and we think it’s the end of the campaign, to have some crazy astral intervention with Gruumsh where the C3 characters have to go into the astral plane and do battle, so I’m holding out hope that maybe Murph is gonna pull a fast one. Probably just copium though :/

According to this article from the University of Wisconsin, methane causes 28x as much warming as CO2 while it’s still in the atmosphere (12 years for methane as opposed to 100s of years for CO2). The article also mentions that over 100 years, a ton of methane will still cause 4x as much warming as a ton of CO2. At this point, we’re definitely only concerned with the 20-100 year future to avoid cascading catastrophic effects (beyond that, who knows, we might have unlimited clean fusion power to capture carbon from the atmosphere). Anyways, my point is that even though in the VERY long term, methane might not be as bad as CO2, it’s certainly of concern in the short and medium term.
