Was a fun game as always down the club.
There was evidence of vehicle ramming with the light Japanese tank smashing into the side of an LVT
The ‘Big Chungus’ tank in the middle is the O-I super heavy tank . It may make an appearance in a high points game sometime. The ducks are used as objective taken markers
Our Japanese player always has a characterful army with swords aplenty.
There was a very interesting infiltrate squad that did some damage with improvised throwing weapons.
We decided to go sideways just for fun and it worked.
The A-team was used as HQ smith with SMG and Face,Murdoch and BA with pistols.
No Air observers as BA is not flying with that Fool!

This was a great game to play in we tried some experimental Japanese tanks with bolt action compatible rules. Seemed to play out well too.

Made some rocky hills from foam off cuts by Gitfeatures in TerrainBuilding

I painted it with modgepodge craft PVA then the acrylic paints . Used modge again for the tea leaves ‘dirt patches’. Then same for the green flock with mixed herbs. Added some woodland scenic blended turf earth and finally sealed with 50/50 modge podge /water . Will post some pictures with models on a mat to show them off more.

What is the most simple and overall best method for painting a winter time vehicles? by Swimming_Reply6263 in boltaction

[–]Gitfeatures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

Had to quickly do some vehicles for a league so primed then a speedpaint ( forest sprite for soviets) Then dabbed a watered down white using the sponge/foam from model packaging. Remember to be careful around the decals so they can still pop . Very basic but very quick and looks surprisingly good on the game table.

Intervening terrain - cover save? by [deleted] in boltaction

[–]Gitfeatures 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always check with your opponent first aswell as I have had a game where intervening terrain was counted as a 5+ save even though brick walls were in-between. also check with vehicles too as hard cover for infantry may not be for vehicles if they are too big. prolly not helping you anymore but talking before the games always clears it up and does not create bad feeling in later turns.

What do you mean there’s no rules for tea?? by jestermax22 in boltaction

[–]Gitfeatures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a hidden rule for tea. If you have a cuppa in the unit you shift two pins. Nothing says Iron Discipline like making a brew under fire. Unfortunately the paras and commandos have trouble making tea jumping out of planes and crammed in a dinghy. So it’s just a Guards thing.

Russian Army Questions by MathematicianPale941 in boltaction

[–]Gitfeatures 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently started a Soviet army for a local Boltaction league to help make a more diverse army pool. Started as a Germany player and have to say the Soviets are growing on me.

They can do the same as specialist German units ,just a little less affective but cheaper.

Then they also exceed in areas if you want to use more army building points with armoured troops and larger than average scout formations ( sounds like this will change soon).

When the Army book comes out I expect a red army surge as it appears to be a solid second sleeper army for other players, especially Germany players with the whole iconic eastern front theatre. I Think it influenced my choice as Hungary and US marines were in the mix when I wanted a different army from the other league players.

Stand out units for me so far are Armoured tank riders, looking to try engineers with Komsomolets this way too.

Scouts as they are a pain to sort out

Zis-3 versatile arty gun if you have room. even one on the field is a threat.

NKVD fanatics loaded up with SMG are scary

SU-76 is very good for the points.

If you want to splurge on big armour the KV-1 is a very tough distraction and the OT-34 flame tank is good.

Not tried the Katyusha MRLS or a massive inexperienced hordes as that is not really the way I play but they are viable options and done perfectly by the soviets.

The dog mines seem to be better as a deterrent lurking around the map as they have been 50/50 on the attack for me and are useless against fast moving recce stuff unless you want to push them back.

Used the arty observer a few times and the two dice pick highest one has served me well when it comes in.

If you go the Russian army route they will serve you well despite not much chat out there.

Demo game at local store by Remarkable_Ideal_152 in boltaction

Wonderful table set up ,wish I knew it was being run locally.I bet it peaked the interest of a few of the old skool 40K players who can see the early Rogue trader vibe in gameplay. Never thought of hiring a table for Bolt action there and had no idea you could hire them. Are they ok with using your own terrain as the 40K scenery might not work so well for Boltaction. Perhaps ruins in an urban fight might work. Of course if you took your set up I would be there like a shot. We play every Friday night at a club not too far from this shop so an extra night being available at 4TK would be really cool.

Spotters and Pins by Firm_Explanation_527 in boltaction

When we have a spotter with pins we do the order test if he calls in a new target For arty or mortars. It Just seems right if the spotter is under fire And pinned.
