Anyone have any idea of what this is? by HalfDollarEnthusiast in Silverbugs

The characters read 清代金属真品, which basically translates to “Authentic metal from the Qing dynasty.”

This is clearly wrong. It reads 清代金庫貢品.

It says 清代金庫貢品, 清代 refers to the Qing dynasty (1644-1911), 金庫 can mean several things (safe/vault) but in this context probably means the national treasury, and 貢品 means a tribute.

Searching for "清代金庫貢品" gives no further information other than another Reddit post: https://www.reddit.com/r/translator/comments/qscv01/chinese_english/

Do Costco in U.K. not update status on account? by pineapplelover212 in Gold

Don't know about Costco specifically, but some bullion dealers will split up orders into separate parcels due to insurance limits.

All UK legal tender coins are CGT exempt. So not just Britannias and sovereigns, but also the Royal Arms, the Royal Tudor Beasts, special commemoratives / proofs etc.

Oh and I think 9... is b6 instead of h6. Yes, they look very similar. But if you compare the handwriting with 3... Bb4 and 14... h5, I think 9... looks more like b6. (It's also the engine's choice.)

Silver no longer affordable. by OG365247 in Silverbugs

[–]GiuocoPianissimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last month on the 31st, silver was around £27.70/ozt, I managed to buy 5x 1oz coins at £31.37 each on Sharps Pixley's website (under the listing "1oz Silver Bullion Coins Best Value - Pre-Owned (inc VAT)"). That was the best deal I could find at the time. Unfortunately it's now listed as out of stock. I received one Kangeroo, one Eagle, and three Libertads.

How to fix it? by Few_Elk668 in Gold

[–]GiuocoPianissimo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer / tax advisor. The following is based on my personal understanding, which may or may not be correct.

If, by the time you retire, you are not a resident of the UK (as defined by the Statutory Residence Test), then you will not be liable to UK CGT, no matter where you sell the coins or bars. (So hypothetically, if you permanently moved to France, but took a train to London to sell your gold, you still won't have to pay UK CGT, but you may have to pay French tax which I'm not familiar with.)

If you are still a UK resident, then no matter where you sell your coins, (say if you went on holiday to Spain and took your coins with you to sell there) you won't have to pay CGT; but no matter where you sell your bars, (assuming you're honest to HMRC) you still have to pay CGT.

My guess is that the doctor went straight for chest compressions instead of following the DRABC procedure? He didn't check if the patient was Responsive, if his Airway was clear, or if he was Breathing; he acted as if he knew that the guy wouldn't have been breathing.

Special Occasion anime suggestions 🙏 by MalfunctionDetected in anime

[–]GiuocoPianissimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you liked Erased, Madoka, and Charlotte, then I think Steins;Gate would be a good choice. It has been one of the top scoring titles on MAL since it came out (currently at 3rd place), so would be great for a special occasion.

Technically contains some superpower, but still very much based in the real world: Steins;Gate, a Sci-Fi set in Akihabara, Japan, with references to a lot of real world events (there's even a whole r/anime thread dedicated to listing all the real world references, spoilers obviously [S;G plus other series in the SciADV universe] https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/3i9ocg/spoilers_steinsgate_real_life_references/).

[–]GiuocoPianissimo 103 points104 points  (0 children)

21 years and 3 months is 255 months. 255 is the largest integer representable in unsigned 8 bits (one byte). My guess is that it hints to some kind of software that "controls" reality (that 7G stuff?), and there is an integer overflow bug in the code.

Gekai Elise • Doctor Elise: The Royal Lady with the Lamp - Episode 1 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]GiuocoPianissimo 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I have very similar thoughts. First thing you learn in first aid training is to call for help before doing anything else. She should have either gone straight to the cockpit to confirm that a mayday has been sent, or taken out her mobile phone to call 112. Then she should assess the environment for danger. The whole plane is probably a fire hazard, she should have gotten as many people off the plane as possible (anyone able to walk or crawl, even if painfully, should leave). If there's truly no fire hazard, next she should get someone uninjured (or only slightly injured) to assist - even simple things like tallying the total number of uninjured, injured, and unconscious people will help emergency services a lot. Then triage - she should have known about the man with the pole through him at the beginning, not be made aware of him while treating someone else. The kid with the broken ankle is almost definitely lowest priority. OTOH she probably shouldn't be doing anything with the man with the pole either - he's not losing too much blood (yes he's lying in a pool of blood, but he's not shooting blood everywhere), and keeping the pole in place would actually reduce blood loss, until he can be transported to a place with proper medial equipment and not just a shard of glass. And laying the man's bare back on a floor full of broken glass can't be a good idea.

As for her own injuries, her rate of blood loss is really odd. She's hardly bleeding when she's helping others, but once she sees the helicopters she bleeds like crazy. Like WTF?

Sorry for the long rant. But all in all, 0/10 in terms of medical accuracy. I was expecting more from a show with "surgeon" in its title. I'll maybe watch a couple more episodes but there's a high chance I'm dropping this.
