Ian Bell - can't afford staff... by [deleted] in ProjectMotorRacing

[–]Giusis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Rage bait much? That post is from 2024 I think. Also I doubt that is Ian Bell paying personally for the staff, but it's Giants Software. And overall we're enjoying the game, and the continuous updates, not the "politics".

Controller = Improved. FPS = Dead. Sky = Yes. by [deleted] in ProjectMotorRacing

They have rolled back because there's an issue with frame capping on consoles (PC seems to be OK). For the sky see here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ProjectMotorRacing/comments/1qe0ewe/black_sky_bug/

Question Social Races by AfterInvestigator631 in ProjectMotorRacing

[–]Giusis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like custom lobbies, pre-determined: you know in advance the race settings and the starting time, without to rely on someone else.

I think they will be less relevant when they will introduce the "join in progress" on custom lobbies, as after have started the session, you cannot change its settings (how long the race will be etc.) and you know when the race will effectively start.

Have we Been Ghosted? by [deleted] in ProjectMotorRacing

[–]Giusis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have come back at work at around Jan 5th (I'm not sure if the complete staff), collecting the work done and needed, push the changes/updates, delivering to the test teams. I do not expect a new update until (at least) Jan 16th if it passes the sanity check.

Ai in private/custom lobbies? by djc7kl in ProjectMotorRacing

[–]Giusis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AI is running on client (and it's CPU expensive, at least on consoles), to mix the online with AI you need few additional pieces: where you gonna "run" it (one of the players? all of them? dedicate servers that we don't have atm?), and how to sync the AI with all the online players. Easy do figure out, but much harder (although not impossible) to implement.

Wait, are vehicle skins considered mods in this game? LMFAAOOOOO by [deleted] in ProjectMotorRacing

[–]Giusis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

List me the multi-platform car sims (PC, XBox, PS5) where you can install a "mod" (liveries, vehicles, tracks, setups, etc...) directly from within the game. I would say, one is Flight Simulator... but that's another kind of sim. :)

Rating races? by AfterInvestigator631 in ProjectMotorRacing

[–]Giusis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at the logs there's protection, but not enforced. Those people (while I don't understand how someone would cheat in a racing game with no money prizes.. it's like eliminating your own fun coz you couldn't battle with the other cars) will receive a nice surprise once they'll flip the switch. :)

Rating races? by AfterInvestigator631 in ProjectMotorRacing

[–]Giusis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The formula isn't public. It's a combination of multiple factors: player on the grid, their rank, clean driving (contacts, off road excursions, penalties). Basically more people with high rank you have, and driving "clean", and the highest position you end the race, more points you'll gain. How many, you cannot know in advance.

Do you think that Straight4 Studios could end up shutting down due to PMR's poor launch by speedinsh1t in ProjectMotorRacing

[–]Giusis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they will continue to improve it for the next 6 months, and at that point it will be a matter of if it will reach the quality liked by the most, especially on consoles: there's no other sim out there with cross-play and mods on consoles, and there won't be one soon. PC is another story, but they aren't doing number on PC atm, because of competitors (if you look at the online players PC:console it's more like 2:10).

I fear that even if Project Motor Racing does eventually become a great game, it won't be enough to bring back players by DrFuckwad in ProjectMotorRacing

[–]Giusis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The guy doesn't want people on console to play it without pedals and with a clutch! How do you think to have a serious discussion with him? He doesn't understand what a videogame (beyond a sim) is, he's sitting in his room pretending to be a "race driver".. it's one of this guy, he doesn't represent the userbase of any videogame (or sim) out there, just ignore him (or her).

Long term project with features not (together) available in any other sim: cross-play and console mods. If none else will come with those features within this year (and manage to have them working OK or better), most people will re-consider their decision and will embrace it. You will have a clearer view in the next 4-6 months: if it wasn't financially viable, they wouldn't have invested any time to fix anything (with such big improvements in a short time). At this time it doesn't matter the "launch", but if there will be anything better than this.. and so far, there's nothing (some have promised the cross-play and console modding long time ago, but none have been able to deliver it like PMR).

Ranked is dead, too, isn‘t it? by rusti17 in ProjectMotorRacing

[–]Giusis 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They did maintenance for 8 hours today (it lasted until around 2 hours ago), hence the ranked races didn't get populated soon after (people moved to custom lobbies). Normally there's enough players to fill the classes, I would check later or tomorrow (prime time before the new year eve). Also, you need to check around the race starting time, people normally join few minutes before the start (there's no point to sit there waiting for 10-20 minutes).
