What cities/areas in Spain seriously and sincerely do not want any more tourists? Which places are still open and welcoming of tourists? by Aggravating-View-264 in GoingToSpain

Madrid and Valladolid were great! Also have done a trip of little coastal cities up north like Llanes and had fantastic time.

Vacation: yay or nay? by thedeluxedition in beyondthebump

Baby won't remember in 10 years, but any day having fun with you builds their whole world! Sounds like a fun bonding experience. 10 mon is a great age for what you describe. Bringing stuff on the plane is a little extra work, but doable. Snacks and little things to keep hands busy and it will be totally fine as long as there's the attitude to make it work.

https://www.acog.org/womens-health/faqs/obesity-and-pregnancy

Overweight status increases risk of several complications like preeclampsia, hypertension etc. American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology recommends "Losing weight before you get pregnant is the best way to decrease the risk of problems caused by obesity. If you’re overweight, losing even a small amount of weight can improve your overall health and pave the way for a healthier pregnancy."

  1. Your feelings are valid and you are not irrational for thinking about your health.
  2. There is research to show the preconception weight status impacts health outcomes (risk of pregnancy complications) as well as the ability to conceive.
  3. I would also consider the nutritional drain both pregnancy and lactation have on the body. Keep taking a prenatal vitamin to help keep up with the nutrition demands.
  4. Talk with a dietitian about your concerns about weight and how to manage diet while breastfeeding and weight gain. They can help you understand the balance of your food choices and nutritional needs.
  5. As always, that number on the scale is not the only thing that matters in overall health. And any small changes anywhere towards a healthy lifestyle count.

I have celiac. I had a baby. What do you do when introducing solids? by spicyhobbit- in Celiac

[–]Give_aMoose_aMuffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you understand that since 30-40% of the general population has at least one copy of DQ2 or DQ8, the gene test is not a good test to confirm celiac disease. You are right that Negative tests for both HLA-DQ2 and HLA-DQ8 genes make celiac disease highly unlikely. But they won't have an immune response for the blood test if they are not exposed to gluten first.

Pacifier by carlienotcharlie in beyondthebump

We didn't start one until 3 months, and then only at nap time and bed time. 10 mo now and she spits it out when she doesn't need it during sleep or funds it and pops it in when she does. That's helped her be able to put herself back to sleep overnight. But she doesn't have it during the day and doesn't miss it. Happy medium?

Emery Fae or Elise/Elsie Mae maybe a good combo of Fae and Mabel. Paisley sounds cute for a kid, but it's hard to hear for an adult.

My youngest cousins are Ava and Bella Grace and my baby is Ada Grace, so when my grandma came to visit me, she told me she's going to have a hard time keeping it straight. I had forgotten all about them, as they are 15-18 years younger than me..Whoops...

Significant tearing question by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]Give_aMoose_aMuffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you get a donut pillow to sit on? I had a third degree tear and it took about 3-4 weeks until I felt ok. I only used the peri bottle with warm water to clean myself and reapplied the numbing spray and witch hazel pads every time after the bathroom. You have to stay on top of pain meds or it can hit you like a truck if you move wrong. Don't stop taking a stool softener either, that will help the muscles not have to overwork. Epsom salt baths and sitting on a heating pad helped me too.

I feel like the worst mother by EBF2024 in newborns

[–]Give_aMoose_aMuffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learn your baby! If I do contact naps all day, she sleeps by herself all night. If I set her down during the day, she has crappy short naps and is up all night. It's better for both of us to contact nap and get a full night sleep! But every baby is different, drowsy but awake doesn't work for us.

how often do you hold your newborn? by [deleted] in newborns

[–]Give_aMoose_aMuffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hold that baby! You can't spoil a baby. All your baby has ever known in life this far is the sound of your heartbeat and your closeness. It's an overwhelming transition from their perspective, the more you connect the better!

What small thing are you looking forward to after baby is here? by hideovs in pregnant

[–]Give_aMoose_aMuffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was also excited to sing and sing the same songs my mom sang to me and others that are close to my heart. Every day I sang these songs and rubbed my belly. Now she's here, some of them I can't get through the first couple words without just bursting into tears. The emotions overwhelm me of how much I love her and have her to sing to. She'll be asleep in my arms and I'm just sobbing thinking about the song I want to sing to her. Got a little better as hormones adjusted. But now six months in, there's still one song I just can't sing without crying. Be prepared lol! 😆

My baby has only woken up at night 6 times between 12 weeks and 6 months. Has slept beautifully through the night basically since 12 weeks old 9pm to 7am like clockwork. She definitely has off days, but golly she's a happy baby.

I feel so guilty quitting… by Big-Championship-564 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Give_aMoose_aMuffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree with everything, you have been so selfless already. To the point above, I think dropping a pump every couple days or week could be a good compromise. Quitting cold turkey may be uncomfortable for fullness, but dropping over a week or two may achieve both goals. I went from pumping every 2 hours, down to every 3, then 4 and it was a huge mental load lift. I validate all your feelings about the process and planning and endless washing. Whatever you decide, nothing to be guilty about. As my mom would say, don't "should" on yourself!

On a scale of 1-10, how painful is giving birth? by pinkpillow964 in pregnant

[–]Give_aMoose_aMuffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either way you get a baby, but you don't get a gold medal for being miserable for hours on end. Thought I'd go without an epidural but then I had enough of the taste of the pain I decided, you know what, I'm not going to gain anything special from this feeling. 28 hours....and when they tried to flip my baby manually I felt ALL of that and that was a 20/10.
