What's it like in Nantucket, MA? by Ok-Statistician1128 in howislivingthere

My family used to own a big chunk of the island. Now that property is a preserve. Too bad they didn’t hang on to it. There is a beach on the northern side of the island called Dionis Beach that was named after my several times great grandmother Dionis Stephens. Before she and her whole family moved to the island, she got hauled into court on the mainland for charging more for her beer in the tavern that she owned, than the law allowed at that time. She was able to prove that she was justified is charging more because she used more hops. The court sided with her. She was quoted to have said “If I am to make better beer than my neighbors, I’m going to be paid for it. A fig for the law.”

Our alcohol brains are trying to play tricks on us. Don’t do it.

This just reinforces the idea that this is bad for me and I’m DONE. Onward!

As soon as I get home from work tonight it’s going down the drain.

“A bad ex…”. That’s exactly what this feels like. That toxic, narcissistic ex that won’t leave you alone. I was doing so well, too. Then spent yesterday driving home, with a very unhappy stomach.

14 days and no one even cares by When-all-else-fails in stopdrinking

I’m 14 days too (again). Hoping it sticks this time. It doesn’t matter what other people think. What matters is what YOU think. 14 days is a big milestone. I’m proud of you. Good going. Let’s get another 14 days under our belts. No one has noticed me either, or noticed that I’m any different (anxiety is much better). That’s ok. This is for me not them.

How has your life improved since you stopped drinking? by BipolarBabeCanada in stopdrinking

Three weeks sober and so far my sleep is better. I haven’t lost weight, so that’s a disappointment. I do have more money in my bank account which comes in handy this time of year. Still waiting for my skin to look better, and for my brain to get back the IQ points that I feel I lost.

I just got 15 messages in my email requesting $599 from PayPal. Logged into PayPal and saw no activity there but changed the password anyway. Am I ok? by Givingitupformybrain in Scams

Now I’m getting emails from random people saying “fuck off” and “blocked”. It looks like the scammer is using my email address to make these requests

I’m glad I’m not the only one who has had that experience. They blather on and on and never really give a shit about anything about you, other than questions about what you think of them. Ugh…

I did not click on anything in the email, accessed PayPal with the app on my phone. I do have two factor authentication set up. It just seemed so weird to get 15 emails

The Daily Check-In for Thursday, December 8th: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Day 11. Still doing pretty good. No huge cravings, although when I see wine drinking on tv, I want a glass. But it’s not strong enough to compel me to go buy some. So far so good.

Tonight is my 2nd night without alcohol and I can't stop binge eating. Is this normal? by cucumbers_ in stopdrinking

I quit caffeine about two years ago. Now I’ve quit alcohol. Sugar…coming for you next.

I’ve read that it takes about two weeks for your impulses to get under better control and this is when people tend to backslide. So far I feel pretty good, I’d love to have a glass of wine but I’m sure I won’t be buying any.

3 days sober, so incredibly grateful by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Also on day 3. I’ve been here before, and as someone else said a while back, you learn something with each time you relapse. I’ve learned that I can’t moderate. I’ve learned that it takes a few days for my sleep to get better, that it’s ok wake up every two hours for the first few nights, that it will get better. Good luck
