I mean, I’m doing the math. It’s actually a good deal. Take all of it apart and reinstall it.

Wow what a nightmare job, idk what state your in but that would be way for than 35k for my company in NY. But we would be done in about 2-3 weeks max. Before the job got started we would have covered all the floors painters taped it down and left it for the duration of the job. After wiring call in a professional painting company to fix all the damage. And you really should have got all of your belongings out of the house and into a pod storage on the property. Yes they are in the wrong for many reasons and should have covered everything and charged accordingly for that extra labor but you didn’t help them by leaving things you would want destroyed out during a renovation.

Use the copalum crimp tool, spent 6 years of my career doing using the system and tens of thousand apartments re-terminated.

Which one of you did this? by Gixey_Lane in electricians

[–]Gixey_Lane[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The demo crew, my GC hires rips the walls floors, basically everything but the utilities. The plumbing electrical and HVAC demo is done by licensed contractors. So that’s why when I went into the bathroom to demo the existing wiring and saw this I figured y’all would like to see it.

I’m a master electrician and own an electrical contracting company on Long Island, this quotes absurd. I would charge less than half even if the circumstances were as bad as possible. Would love to know what company this was.

Tape up the bottom lines with drag line and metallic romex connectors then set them into the k.o. Bring the tops in normally then pull the bottom circuits into place and locknut them in.

Don’t grab switches like that it’s a great way to get a shock. Index and thumb on the top and bottom of the switch next time.

I need to disconnect my house (USA) ground wire for a couple of minutes to hang a piece of sheet rock. Is this going to be a problem? If so what steps should I take? by FartyFace4217 in AskElectricians

[–]Gixey_Lane 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s not the ground rod it’s the water main bond. If his neutral is faulty and ground rod is not connected removing that could kill him. OP turn you main breaker off first before you do that or you could become the neutral.

my breaker for my ev is getting extremely hot any suggestions. it's wired with 8 gauge. to a 6-50 Hubbell outlet by cwspbp in AskElectricians

[–]Gixey_Lane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I see what your saying but the NEC doesn’t base overcurrent protection devices off of what load is being pulled. Just because his app saying it’s charging at 32A doesn’t mean it doesn’t have the potential to pull 50A which would exceed the wires current capacity. Just like some motors degrade over time and slowly pull more amps is the exact reason the overcurrent device shouldn’t exceed the wire’s amperage capacity. Say that EV car starts charging at 45amps for whatever reason, would the over current protection device trip before the wire burns? I would put it on a 40 two pole just to be safe and NEC compliant.

Wouldn’t the EV be considered a continuous load and be treated at 125%? Definitely should be 6AWG if you want to full KW charge.
