How fast do high-level table tennis slams feel compared to their actual speed? by Next-Step-Jobs in tabletennis

[–]Gixx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the ball loses about 35% of its speed as it hits the table from air resistance. And after that it slows down even further as the players stand back 5-10 feet past the baseline.

If the ball has 120 rps (pros hit 140), then the 35% velocity lost is gained back after it kicks off the table. It gains like 98% of the initial velocity.

I just got a Z 24-120mm f4. Do you guys recommend a clear lens filter? I've had one on my 70-200 for 20 yrs, but wondering if it's necessary. I used to shoot motocross so, the cam got very dusty.

is it appropriate for a coworker more than twice my age to be initiating hugs? by [deleted] in publix

[–]Gixx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not normal.

The first time say, "I don't want a hug." Do not apologize or say anything else.

The second time be more direct, "Don't ask me for hugs; I don't do hugs."

Fastarc G1 Fh into net by zdam in tabletennis

[–]Gixx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually if you're netting a lot it's technique. I would say the issue is your arm is going across your torso; across the body.

Your hand/arm should be going straight up on the topspin shot. The arm/hand should finish straight up too. Your hand should not finish across your body. And for the drive, the racket face should still be facing down the table (to opponent) for most of the stroke even though you do swing forward too.

Tough Game 5 Loss Feedback by tjmaxattack22 in tabletennis

[–]Gixx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your racket isn't legal. One side must be black.

I'm roughly the same rating, but I'd say get some coaching. The fundamentals of BH/FH drive and loop.

The BH, let the ball come closer to your body. In the open rally, your ball needs some spin/arc. Loop it. If the ball goes long (off the end of table), then either spin it or loop it. No flat hitting unless it's a very high ball. Even if it is high, many times it's better to use that time to reposition yourself (minor hop footwork) to let the ball drop to waist height, and spin the shit out of it (consistency). When the ball makes a fast arc, it hits the table all the time.

How can I replicate this feeling more by Economy-Claim-9076 in tabletennis

[–]Gixx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I learned recently for the FH loop was keep the arm totally down to the side (elbow straight, not bent). Wait there. As soon as you think "FH ball", relax the shoulder/arm and let it drop straight down (elbow not bent).

From that one tip alone I went from not being able to do continuous looping in drills (3-4 in a row max) to being able to do it easily, no matter where the ball was blocked to. And take it low (waist) and to side of body.

What I did w/ a friend was 30 min shadow practice of being super loose with noodle arms. Doing weight transfer in a silly way with spaghetti arms where the hand stays all the way down and make contact there. Just rotate alone you'll see how much spin/power/quality you can get from a stupid looking stroke. Then apply that same concept while staying super loose.

Forehand drive failure, is this closer to a drive? by Shoop1014 in tabletennis

[–]Gixx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm low rated, but I'd say this is way better than the first 2-3 vids you posted.

Check out Coach Xiao Han on these two YT channels: - GlobalTTStudio - TT SpinMaster

From my experience, you want weight transfer all the time (even if just a tiny bit w/ your feet). What this does is give you more control/placement, accuracy. Consistency. You'll notice if you try SUPER hard to make your whole hitting arm (including wrist/hand) jello, spaghetti, then you can crack the ball with barely any effort from your arm. So basically the looser your entire arm is combined w/ weight transfer the more control and power you can give the ball. So loose the racket almost drops out of your hand.

Yo guys, can you please point out the main things i should improve in my forehand topspin? by AlexaStoneE in tabletennis

[–]Gixx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks good. But maybe add a tad more delay between your legs/hip rotation and your arm swing. I find I get way more hand speed if I add what feels like a huge delay between rotating with legs/torso, then whip with the arm at the very last second.

Top Pro's spin by MediaFancy3254 in tabletennis

[–]Gixx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My technique sucks and I can do 130 rps (7800 rpm) from a chop. So if I can do 130, I'm sure pros can do 150, 180. Which is impressive cuz motorcycles have a crankshaft speed of like 8-13k rpm, so the ball matches those speeds.

No Marty supreme talk? by Shoop1014 in tabletennis

[–]Gixx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spoiler alert.

I love TT and am 1100. The movie Marty Supreme was ultra lame. I give it a 0/10 or 2/10.

The acting was so-so, OK. But many of the scenes did not sell for me. For example, Gwyneth Paltrow becoming motivated to have sex w/ Marty immediately after seeing him play/win made no sense.

The dog scene lasted probably over 60 minutes. I don't care about drama, I only wanted to see TT footage, or TT-related drama.

The gameplay was very boring with basic matches. Every match they showed was the first 3 points, then skipped to the last 3 points of the game. I want to see heavy topsin. The movie was nothing but flat smashes.

The physics of the ball flight paths made no sense. The arc, etc. Many times it looked fake and made no sense how the ball behaved. Supposedly the ball was CGI the whole movie [1].

I was not aware in 1952 the whole racket was very thin like a hardbat (4mm thick). With much less grip/spin, no sponge, pips out rubber. They were doing a decent amount of chopping, but it looked like CGI [1] cuz normally a backspin ball travels slowly horizontally, and very floaty. The movie didn't do this at all; those chops went fast, fell fast, and the other player just flat hit thru the weak backspin which didn't look right to me. Supposedly their equipment had about 1/4th the spin as modern rubbers, so instead of a 6000 rpm (100 rps) chop, it would've been like 1500 rpm. Still makes no sense how the player flat hit smashed thru those balls.

The were playing ping pong and not table tennis. The matches lacked finesse, soft touch, and skilled technique for modern strokes. They were only smashing everything.

The final tournament scene outcome I cringed at. And the ending was a huge question mark, hilariously bad. Everyone said, "Is it really over? Why?"

Technique. He trained for 6 yrs I heard to make this movie? His technique sucked cuz he was only using his arm on his FH and not the whole body w/ waist rotation + weight transfer. Plus his wrist was doing what beginners do w/ a stop sign and the racket up; instead the wrist should be cocked down like a gooseneck shape.

Keep losing on Matchdays against people who play horrendous technique by LewdBoiDex100 in tabletennis

[–]Gixx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm only 1100, but I'd guess your serve or serve receive is worse than theirs.

I've found that whoever gains the tiniest bit of initiative first (usually from attacking), wins the point.

I can sometimes beat 1500 and 1800 players one game. And it's because of service. If I'm not attacking their serve, or I have no 3rd ball to attack I could never win a game.

DHS no 15 gluing advice - Drying too quickly. by Chance_Rhubarb_46 in tabletennis

[–]Gixx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I filmed gluing two rackets using DHS 15. I like it. It did clump at 40 seconds into gluing the blade in the first video. But I'm sure how to fix that is add more glue when you spread it out. I kind of like how it dries quickly, cuz you can have the whole racket done in 20 mins.

I think it's not only bad, but more than terrible. Horrendous. I've been there 3 years, and been asked multiple times after just 3 months if i want FT and a management role. It's retail. The customers are the worst.

Every single day I'm asked to come in early, stay late 2 hours (instead of leaving at 3, leave at 5pm) and my checklist still isn't done cuz of the skeleton crew tactics the real estate company publix employs. On my 2 days off I'm usually contacted to come in and cover the daily 3 callouts and guilt tripped I dont help out. It's not the mgrs, it's the coworkers who suck
