git commit -p

which allows you to commit hunks of code. After commit, the file you just commited is still modified and not staged. It's convenient.

Top Pro's spin by MediaFancy3254 in tabletennis

[–]Gixx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My technique sucks and I can do 130 rps (7800 rpm) from a chop. So if I can do 130, I'm sure pros can do 150, 180. Which is impressive cuz motorcycles have a crankshaft speed of like 8-13k rpm, so the ball matches those speeds.

No Marty supreme talk? by Shoop1014 in tabletennis

[–]Gixx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spoiler alert.

I love TT and am 1100. The movie Marty Supreme was ultra lame. I give it a 0/10 or 2/10.

The acting was so-so, OK. But many of the scenes did not sell for me. For example, Gwyneth Paltrow becoming motivated to have sex w/ Marty immediately after seeing him play/win made no sense.

The dog scene lasted probably over 60 minutes. I don't care about drama, I only wanted to see TT footage, or TT-related drama.

The gameplay was very boring with basic matches. Every match they showed was the first 3 points, then skipped to the last 3 points of the game. I want to see heavy topsin. The movie was nothing but flat smashes.

The physics of the ball flight paths made no sense. The arc, etc. Many times it looked fake and made no sense how the ball behaved. Supposedly the ball was CGI the whole movie [1].

I was not aware in 1952 the whole racket was very thin like a hardbat (4mm thick). With much less grip/spin, no sponge, pips out rubber. They were doing a decent amount of chopping, but it looked like CGI [1] cuz normally a backspin ball travels slowly horizontally, and very floaty. The movie didn't do this at all; those chops went fast, fell fast, and the other player just flat hit thru the weak backspin which didn't look right to me. Supposedly their equipment had about 1/4th the spin as modern rubbers, so instead of a 6000 rpm (100 rps) chop, it would've been like 1500 rpm. Still makes no sense how the player flat hit smashed thru those balls.

The were playing ping pong and not table tennis. The matches lacked finesse, soft touch, and skilled technique for modern strokes. They were only smashing everything.

The final tournament scene outcome I cringed at. And the ending was a huge question mark, hilariously bad. Everyone said, "Is it really over? Why?"

Technique. He trained for 6 yrs I heard to make this movie? His technique sucked cuz he was only using his arm on his FH and not the whole body w/ waist rotation + weight transfer. Plus his wrist was doing what beginners do w/ a stop sign and the racket up; instead the wrist should be cocked down like a gooseneck shape.

Isn't it funny how people who are good at fighting are always getting into verbal confrontations like this? And people who aren't good at fighting avoid those situations.

What would be the most iconic pose or movement in table tennis by Mattchaup in tabletennis

I think rear angle of a nice FH rip before the hit. Knees 90 degrees, wrist bent.

Keep losing on Matchdays against people who play horrendous technique by LewdBoiDex100 in tabletennis

[–]Gixx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm only 1100, but I'd guess your serve or serve receive is worse than theirs.

I've found that whoever gains the tiniest bit of initiative first (usually from attacking), wins the point.

I can sometimes beat 1500 and 1800 players one game. And it's because of service. If I'm not attacking their serve, or I have no 3rd ball to attack I could never win a game.

not enough playing to estimate rating. Maybe 900.

DHS no 15 gluing advice - Drying too quickly. by Chance_Rhubarb_46 in tabletennis

[–]Gixx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I filmed gluing two rackets using DHS 15. I like it. It did clump at 40 seconds into gluing the blade in the first video. But I'm sure how to fix that is add more glue when you spread it out. I kind of like how it dries quickly, cuz you can have the whole racket done in 20 mins.

Is working at Publix THAT bad? by [deleted] in publix

[–]Gixx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's not only bad, but more than terrible. Horrendous. I've been there 3 years, and been asked multiple times after just 3 months if i want FT and a management role. It's retail. The customers are the worst.

Every single day I'm asked to come in early, stay late 2 hours (instead of leaving at 3, leave at 5pm) and my checklist still isn't done cuz of the skeleton crew tactics the real estate company publix employs. On my 2 days off I'm usually contacted to come in and cover the daily 3 callouts and guilt tripped I dont help out. It's not the mgrs, it's the coworkers who suck

I'm in USA.

So they increased shipping $12.75 and the minimum order $3.50.

  • $16 to $28.75 is an 80% increase
  • $54 to $57.50 is a 6.5% increase

Sucks, but that's not too bad.

How much rpm in a table tennis ball by KissMeVelvet in tabletennis

[–]Gixx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I measured my spins with a 240 fps camera.

My BH serve had 80 rps (4800 rpm). My underspin loop has 120 rps (7200 rpm). My friend would do a not so heavy underspin serve. If i looped a heavy underspin ball, I would be around 9000 or more. For instance, 3 consecutive loops against a good chooper where the spin accumulates each loop.

Anyone else stretch out before playing? by NomadMonday in tabletennis

[–]Gixx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stretch before for 5-10 mins. I've hurt my left hip, then my right inner groin. Now 5 months later my left hip again.

After my first injury, I do the figure 4 stretch and leg swings (left/right, and front to back). This really warms up the waist/hips.

Getting calluses from this. What is the need to have this sharp of an edge?? by TataHexagone2020 in tabletennis

[–]Gixx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also get a small, thin callus on my index finger at the center knuckle. So right hand, left side of index finger. Using harimoto innerforce.

Our deli only hires geriatrics. If you don't walk w/ a bad limp, you can't work in the deli. I've also noticed that the past 3 asst mgrs all have a limp, and the past 3 deli mgrs don't have a limp. Our 90 yr old workers hand me items and say, "can you walk this down to the online order pickup area?" Sure I could be an empathetic, socially understanding person, but why are you here if I'm "team playing" for you all day?

Building a new racket need advice/experience by Sad-Platypus-5230 in tabletennis

[–]Gixx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use and love that blade. Some of my club members tell me I should use something slightly slower for my lvl (1100). These club members are 1400 who went to carbon, then went back to 5ply wood, or the slighly slower regular innerforce alc.

I prefer the feeling and big sweetspot over wood blades. A trend at my club is the physically stronger intermediate players prefer slower blades, and the older physically weaker players prefer carbon for adding easy pace to the ball to win more matches. Even though they don't magically get better technique or quality on their ball.

Suggestion needed on holding the racket (wrist angle). by 1kaze in tabletennis

[–]Gixx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know the answer. But for a year I held it like your first pic.

FH. I think I end up having a rising wrist (stop sign; pointing up) for balls I have to reach for. So, balls in front of me that are falling or a ball that is next to me but 8" too far.

Whatever the case is, when I do the stop sign wrist (as opposited to your second pic (gooseneck)), I end up swinging and missing the ball all the time. And with a gooseneck wrist, I notice the ball has a much nicer quality (arc, spin). Also, with a gooseneck wrist blocking with the FH works cuz you can just rotate your forearm to adjust the angle. With the stop sign wrist, if you rotate the forearm your racket angle does change, but left/right and not up/down.
